I've also signed brandy on loan. Very good player. Top at the end of the demo.

Match engine is much better and I like the way players, especially the keeper, react.

a similar one to last year is that after 2 or 3 games 50% of my squad are injured

I have found no bugs at all, got few injuries as well, no more than we actually have in real life anyway!

F Brandy refuses to come to me on loan, even for 1 month!

Hutchinson has bagged 14 goals in the first 10 games and is way better than his level!

Playing against the Glenn Hoddle academy was a total waste of time!

If my memory serves me well...  :sherlock: ..yes, yes you did. Unfortunately I did not attend that game. Whenever I attended previous games (home and away) we always seemed to win them, with the odd draw thrown in for good measure  :)

didn't see you as the FM loving type nick :P. for swindon I sent Revell and Hutchinson packing and signed Willy Topp on a free as he was uncontracted. Also John Sutton from Motherwell for £40,000 he's a steal. Nathan Tyson is also a great loan signing from Forest and he scored 4 goals in my 7-2 win over Southampton which was crazy. Between these guys in my first 5 games theyv scored 12 goals.

This time Febian Brandy signed for me on loan! also signed Javan Vidal on loan at RB from Man City, hes classy!

I had Mellor in my first game, cost me £85k though so I had to sell a few before I got him, but he had scored 25 by January 1st so well worth the gamble.

Tip for anyone... buy Marlon Harewood. As FM would have you know, he's capable of playing up front alone against my defensively solid Man City team and score 4 in one game, including a 94th minute winner. I hate this fucking game.

Scott Cuthbert player of the season.

I went out and bought it last night. First impressions, I like the tactics creation/editing. Still trying to get used to the layout.

Only done my pre season so far but I've signed some decent players. I'm hoping my combination of Mellor and Mifsud up front will do the business.

My tip is don't bother with Champ Manager and get Football Manager.

As long as your laptop isn't archaic it'll play no problems. Just make sure you save regularly, I've had issues from time to time with the game getting corrupt (in all versions) and if you haven't saved for a few games it can be a bit painful.

Say goodbye to any life you may have had.

Yep I have just done this. Now all I need is a decent left back and a playmaking central midfielder and my squad is very very strong.

Neil Mellor is definetly worth a purchase. 5 goals in 3 games and top scorer of league one.

Title: Re: Football Manager 2010
Post by: Peter Venkman on Sunday, November 8, 2009, 11:12:16
Olivier Bernard - Left Back free
Takura Mtandari - Wing back free
Neil Mellor if you can get him.....in my proper game (not the demo) they want £900k for him!
Gionatha Spinesi - a 31 year old Italian Striker on a free....very good.
Willy Topp -  A 23 yo Chilean Striker, hes not bad but doesnt get much better from what I have seen.
Javan Vidal - LB on loan from Man City
David Noble - MD when hes over his injury problem
Lucien Mettomo - 32 yo Cameroon CB
Izzy Iriekpen - 27 yo CB

Theres a couple to go on with that I have signed for Swindon and have done well.

Title: Re: Football Manager 2010
Post by: Peter Venkman on Sunday, November 8, 2009, 11:15:54
Oh and for Si

Ronnie Wallwork isnt a bad playmaker along with Olivier Bernard at LB both on frees.

does everyone use the general training jobber or do you create your own or resource some proven one's off the net?

Title: Re: Football Manager 2010

Title: Re: Football Manager 2010
Post by: Peter Venkman on Sunday, November 8, 2009, 12:11:00
I use standard training regimes but havent dabbled in that yet been worrying more on tactics.

I get a fair few injuries over the season so I think my training is wrong on fitness as most are injuries in training not in games.

I don't know why but Mellor in all my games costs £900k+ hes never on the transfer list like he is in the demo. Shame cos hes not bad.

Jay Emannuel-Thomas isn't bad in the centre of the park, on loan from arsenal. Brandy and Mellor (20k and Timlin) are unstoppable up top, and Akinde from Bristol City is also a good loan signing.. Signed Godwin Antwi on a free and Thomas Butler from Swansea as well following the sale of Macca to Notts County , second in league one after 10 games, and have won 7 on the spin.

Title: Re: Football Manager 2010
Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, November 8, 2009, 14:02:56
Perrier-Doumbe is a good right back, you get him for nothing.

I've currently won all my 12 league games, beat Southampton in the paint pot trophy, though I did lose to Bristol City in the league cup.

I'm loving the tactics, the more descriptive roles are far easier to understand than stupid sliders.

sadly hutchinson (who loves goals) and revell's loans have just ended so i've got billy and erm seb broomfield and the under 18's to choose from up top!

I finally dropped my first points, a 3-3 draw away to Norwich. I'm still very pleased with how I'm doing, 43 points from 15 games.

I'm going to find a tough tackling midfielder in the January transfer window. Douglas and Easton aren't really good enough in my opinion.

Title: Re: Football Manager 2010

I can see no reason why it wont work Si, it all works off the same database in the actual game itself.

It wont take long I wouldnt have thought as starting a new game is way way faster in FM2010, a new game takes me about 1 minute to start even with 2 leagues and a large database.

if you have the same database on both machines it should work

payed a bit more than 9k but he looks handy, only 2 game sin and have beat gills 4-1 and dongs 3-1.
Got in a few transfers
Ivan Bandalovski 35k
Rohan Ricketts AM LRC  (free)
Tomasz Kupisz AM RC (loan from wigan)
Luka Senicanin FC (free) (18yr old serb, stats are great)
Jean Joel Perrier Doumbe (free)

got rid of the usual suspects aswell.

I'm finding the ccc really difficult. Win one, lose three. Same team, same formation. Getting loads of injuries aswell.

Ease up on the training schedules if you can, to avoid injuries.

Try and play a bit tighter. Use man marking if you can and play a bit more boring and keep possession more. If you can scrape a run of draws team morale will go up and you should get better results. That's what happened with my team. I was rooted in the relegation zone until I did this.

For giggles, I've reinstalled CM 01/02 and am playing it to see how dated it feels now, it was amazing at the time.

I've just signed a young CB from Celtic, looks quite promising, called Jon-Paul McGovern. I wonder what hapenned to him.

Just installed this and played pre-season. Unbeaten so far only added loanees so far, Tom Soares, Church from Reading and Akpo Sodje up front. Looks like it is going to be Church and Paynter up front for the season, they seem to be working well together. JPM is a goal machine as well!

I kept Swindon up in the CCC, finished 15th but from about 10th downwards there was only 5 points in it.

Emmanuel Sarki has been immense on the right wing, sign him if you can. John Ruddy is a useful keeper and young, but it appears he wants to leave. I've slapped a £5m price tag on him in the hope someone is stupid enough to pay it.

I also somehow managed to get Jonathan Dos Santos who isn't the best stat wise, but seems to play well as an attacking central midfielder. He seems to be improving even with my crap coaches and standard training schedule.

I was going to do some work today but I think I might spend all day playing FM again.

I am in October and in 4th. Tom Soares signed on loan from Stoke and was immense but now the loan has finished and he won't return. So I've signed Jones, an 18 year old Midfielder from Man U who is decent. Have sold Easton to Barnet for 18k and Peacock to York for 20k.

On a seperate note, I have just ordered a Macbook Pro, will this game run ok on a Mac and will I be able to play online with it?

My better signings as follows:

GK - John Ruddy
RM- Emmanuel Sarki
FC - Claudio Pitbull

Manuel Coppola needed some time but grew into the defensive central midfielder role I played him in and clubs are sniffing around him now, so may be another good option.

All were free transfers.

get in some players (nb defenders) with higher concentration

improve stamina via training

minimise creativity of defence and CM's, play narrow, adjust mentality

maybe sacrifice a striker for a def/mid if you're in the lead, though probably only wise if you have a striker who can hold the ball up

i find not going too defensive helps also, can be counterproductive to sit deep and only defend

I just can't stop playing 2006 (as i always tell everyone). I'm only in 2017, but i wonder what happens when you get to 70 or so? Do you die eventually? Do you get forced to retire a a certain age? I want to find out when i have the time to play it.

Dunno

I got to 2028 then my laptop fucked up and wont play 06 anymore.

I once played CM01/02 to the end. You get to the year 2052 and the continue button just blanks out and thats it.

Are many people playing as lowly non league teams? I'm currently Wootton Bassett, won the league and the Wiltshire cup in my first season, then went on a 6 game winning run in the division above (Hellenic Premier?), but now cannot win for shit! My team/tactics have completely gone to pot, despite over running teams during my unbeaten run. Surely it's not a case of completely changin my tactics?
Anyway, i found a few gems (Non league standard atm, but they're youngen's). If you're struggling for players, then search for the likes of Marvin Williams, Richard Doughety, Peter Rapson, Jefferey Imunia, Preston Edwards, Richard Gunn and Serge Mokofo. They all came from Blue Square Prem/South/North sides, so they should be about.

Only 2 things that are odd, Caddis is on loan from Celtic and Pericard is still at Carlisle, But Ward & Sheehan are included in our squad.

When a new patch comes out for some reason it enables any databases that have been edited in data editor, so pride of wilts must have made a database previously making STFC's finiances a bit better and with the new patch its enabled/merged these changes which is why he has swindon with a lot of money.

Title: Re: Football Manager 2010

Addicted already.

Got some odd results in pre season. I dominated but only beat the local non league teams by a goal or 2.

Austin got 1 in pre-season, Paynter 4, Brandy 1, Pericard, Ward 0

Jay Emmanul-Thomas was my top scorer in pre-season all headed goals at the back post coming in from the left wing.

Also got in Jordan Spence, Miguel Comminges and Jay Spearing in on loan. Timlin out to Peterborough. Macklin, Kennedy, Hartmann and what not out on loan.

Battered Gillingham then they went 1-0 up, battered them some more and went 1-1 with a goal from Austin (who i only played because hes good in the real world) battered them some more than they went 2-1 up. Got back to 2-2 with a Paynter penalty.

Went 1-0 down to Charlton in the LC. Then 1-1 Austin, then 2-1 with a Paynter penalty, then a Frazer Richardson own goal - then Sam Sodje sent off topped off with Alan O'Brien getting injured after I had already made my 3 subs.

Realistic or WHAT!

I got bored of my 2009 game after 9 years of Swindon mediocracy (albeit Championship mediocracy, with a new chariman with a bit of money who doesn't like me), so not sure who I'll manage in 2010. My bro-in-law has a dutch/belgian game going, I might follow his lead and go all continental. Woop.

What role are people playing Austin in? I'm finding his stats are going up nicely, still on the general training and no good coaches. I'm only allowed a combined total of 5 coaches in the first season so have left it all alone for now. I'm considering making tailored schedules for individual players in the first team though.

austin is very inconsistent for me, seems to only like playing as a poacher (in the wizard tactics thing). one match he'll score a hattrick, the next he'll get subbed off at half-time.

Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, 12:51:40
I play him as a poacher too, but usually run with ball sometimes instead of often. Sears has been keeping him out of the side though.

Think I may need him to stop playing with back to goal, which seems to be a move of his. It kind of counteracts being a poacher and the other moves of beating the offside trap and shooting first time.

I find (and have done in all the FM games) that the striker who plays on the left hand side of the front two scores more.

Is it by taking them short? or making sure you hit the first defenders head?

it's the short option, sort of. even though my corners are set up for greer to attack far post, i occasionally see my short option/lurk outside area player bang one in

Pack out the 6 yard box but leave one player to lurk outside the area. The kicker should take the corner to that player, if not you can tell him to put it in the 'penalty area'. The computer just doesn't mark this player at all for some reason which usually means a free shot. Given that the computer doesn't learn from the error I think it's a bug.

The other 'bug' I've noticed with corners is that the computer got a few chances by passing it to a player short (in nearest the corner of the 18 yard box) who somehow loses a marker on a regular basis. I seem to have stopped these opportunities by setting a player to close down the corner. Dunno whether it just puts them off but it somehow works.

I only browse the official forum now and again. It's got to so much information overload I tend to ignore it and try my own things now. I've found by implementing changes one at a time you can work out which parts are working and which parts are not.

i decided i fancied a game with lots of money and some easy games. so, Notts County, using the 1.02 update! :P

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v488/jimothy/County.jpg

my transfers so far.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v488/jimothy/County1.jpg

and my squad. not too shabby at the moment, ade panicbuy-e is quite good, annoyingly lee hughes isnt too shabby either. he's on the transfer list though, as he's a cunt.

after 4 games i'm top by a point, woop! only scored 5, but i've only conceded twice. However, my main achievement has been first of all, pitching Leicester out of the League cup 3-2 (thanks to a Lee Hughes 94th-minute winner. Then, in the second round, taking Cardiff into extra time at their stadium, where mr Lee Hughes poped up in the 108th minute to score the winner to make it 2-1 to me. lovely! :D

He's been out injured for the past 5 months in my game, which was more than annoying.

Not as annoying as being top of the league and playing Brighton who are in the relegation zone. No matter what I did my team forgot how to defend. 5-5, what a dodgy game.

10 more games to go. The next fixture is against Norwich who are pushing Leeds for 2nd place, so roles reversed. Maybe if I lose it, it might make us win tomorrow?

Ask your player to place shots in the corner. Worked for me.

Or if they play as a deeper striker power their shots, if it's on target it'll go in more often or get a rebound opportunity.

I periodically update my progress here, but of course i'm still stuck in fm2006. I have over £750m transfer budget (2023) and some of my wonder kids, mainly because i buy anyone who looks any good at less than 17, are immense.

Got a 20 year old D/WB/MR 20's all over the shop, ghosts past many players every game at MR (he's like Messi without the goals), value £24,000,000 currently (cost £130k comp at 16 from some shit chilean team). Just turned down a £88m bid from Real Madrid.

My other RB, that actually plays at DR, is also 20 and is worth £19m (cost £275k comp at 16 from Boca). My main striker is 23 and worth £27m, averages a goal a game over a season, £2m comp from Hertha @ 17. I sold my 2 main centre halves, one for £79m to Juve at 25 (got him on a free at 17) and the other for £38m to Real at 26 (£5.5m from Everton @ 17).

They were worth , £22m and £19m, the best in the game, but now my youngsters are almost as good (I only conceded 11 goals last season). I'm like a player factory, at one point i had 120 players on the books, i had a clear out that season and received £270m towards my silly transfer fund.

I also went 111 games unbeaten, which is why i think i'm starting to get bored. Although i spend hours and hours and hours scouting. It's says i've played for 41 days and some hours.

Yeah, youth is ace. I spend masses of time finding talent and offering them contracts at 16. If they won't accept it's normally because they're 16, so i set a note to remind me the day they turn 17, then offer again and they accept! (I just offer 20% or so more than they ask for, unless other big clubs are also competing, then i'll offer then 5-20 times what they ask for.)

My trouble is, i'm obsessed with youth and making money, i won't even sign amazing players on freebies if they're over 23 (I turned down Fabregas at 27). I have to sell before 25 or i fear i won't ever get rid. If i sell players below about 23, i will only sell if they give me 50% sell on clauses, just in case they turn into gods. I'll even sell them for pennies provided i get 50%. Sold a DC to Inter for £6.5 + 50% and they just sold him for £22m, so sometimes pays big.

I just sold a shit hot 18 year old ST to Lazio for £12m + 50% and i think he'll turn into a fucking legend. Mainly because they bid that up front with no negotiation when he's only worth £5m and he cost me £1.2 in compo at 17, which is always a sign of greatness in my experience.

I had to sell though, because i have 10 or so strikers 18 or under and some of them are gonna be gods. I have an 18 year old Argentine FC who i bought, sorry stole, from Boca at 17 for £1m comp (which is massive for comp in South America). He was offered contracts by about 30 clubs. He asked for about £475pw, so i gave him about £5k pw and maximum bonus. Needless to say he joined and he's gonna be scary good.

thats the way to do it, i play in a similay way, but i have age brakets for each position as in once at a cirtain age i get rid and wont sign.
GK- Aslong as stats are still good i'll sign at any age(but normaly no older than 30)
CB- Wont buy over the age of 27 if i have them at the club once they hit 30 i look to selll them.
MID- wont buy over 25/26 years old, and again will sell as above
ST- wont buy over 24/25

The above is just a guide, if someone special comes up on a free then i will go for it, i like to keep my squads average age at abour 25. One thing i have learned is you needs one of two older guys in there for experience.

Believe it or not i've pretty much only just realised that.  :-[

Only because I'm playing amazing at the moment and the average age i ended last season with was 21 (my lowest ever, but it was easier than many other seasons). I have my first player over 30 for about 10 seasons (Brazil Captain and my Captain has been with me since he was 18 and has a record of something like 70 goals in 99 apps for Brazil) and my 28 year old DMC. (Portugal's Captain - DC, DMC, MRC and they always play him at centre half, his shittest position, especially as he gets 20+ goals a season from midfield.) I deduced it must be the only reason. Plus no cunt will take them off me!

after six games in the league i'm 2nd, won 4, drawn 1, lost 1, scored 13, conceded 5. Austin has 5 in 7 games, Pericard 4 in 4. a good spread of scoring across the team so far as well, which is nice! the loss was 2-0 to Franchise, 2nd game of season, in a game i dominated but couldn't score. i've beaten Yeovil and Southampon 4-0 each as well, which is nice!!!

I've just picked this up again, about a month and a half in, not doing too shabbily, I have editted Dossevi onto the team, signed a couple of free transfers, Daniel Rijaard at RB and Rogvi Holm at CB (a faroe islands international, swit-swoo!!!)

after six games in the league i'm 2nd, won 4, drawn 1, lost 1, scored 13, conceded 5. Austin has 5 in 7 games, Pericard 4 in 4. a good spread of scoring across the team so far as well, which is nice! the loss was 2-0 to Franchise, 2nd game of season, in a game i dominated but couldn't score. i've beaten Yeovil and Southampon 4-0 each as well, which is nice!!!

go to www.fm-base.co.uk and download the latest unofficial transfers patch.

Started a new game with the Town using a database update from the SIGames forums. Looks pretty accurate.

stared a game in 95/96 as newcastle...just signed a 22yr old robert pires and a 16yr old Stevie G.
I might just go through all the young kids and sign them up.

Twas my plan too!
love it, half way through the season
4th Place Pl21 W11 D6 L4
Beardsly  even at 34yr old has scored 25 in 29 and Les Ferdinand 23 in 30.
No big 4 in the top 4 Man City are religation candidates.
This is great

What formations/tactics do people play in the premier league?

After winning league 1 and the championship in successive season I'm really struggling and it doesn't help that I'm struggling to bring in anyone decent. Just signed Zayatte in the January window and he's considered a coup for the club. Kamil Zayatte for fucks sake!

Title: Re: Football Manager 2010
Post by: Peter Venkman on Thursday, September 2, 2010, 14:27:14
For some reason I cannot get any formation to play except for my 4-4-2 with attacking wingers in wide midfield positions.

It is getting me good results with fairly good players (not too bad with poor players either) but I like to vary it a bit and play some other formations but they just don't seem to work since 10.3 patch.

Title: Re: Football Manager 2010
Post by: Simon Pieman on Thursday, September 2, 2010, 14:30:40
Sounds a bit like a tactic I haven't used since winning league 1. I'll give it a go.

Reading various stuff on the net, the 10.3 patch doesn't favour wide formations too favourably.

Title: Re: Football Manager 2010
Post by: DiV on Thursday, September 2, 2010, 14:36:16
I never move from the 4-4-2 with attacking wingers.

Won L1, Won the Play Offs in the Championship, Finished 11th in the Premier, Finished 4th in the Premier - currently 2nd!! around December time.

Although I havent touched the game in months.

Chubbs' file for anyone who wants it:

http://rapidshare.com/files/416679737/season_9596.rar.html
unzip it and place in the my document>sports interactive>fm2010>data editor.

if you're using the 10.3 patch they reccomend when you get to the add a manager part do nothing and save the game, click next it will error and crash, reload fm10 and load last game and you shuold be good to go.

Update, i have now signed a 21yr old david beckham, 19yr old Schevchenko, 27yr old Kancheskis (sp), 26 yr old Henning Berg.
And a few unknown 15/16 yr olds such as rio ferdinand, matty upson, and gudjonsen (sp)

so Dossevi was in blistering form, up until the end of January, when Blackpool (!) came in with a £1m offer, and fitton accepted it without consulting me. humph.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v488/jimothy/woopwoop.jpg

enjoyed that, beat Milwall 1-0 at their gaff last game of the season (Austin in the 90th minute)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v488/jimothy/woopwoop2.jpg

thats my squad, had a couple of loan players in who've gone back to their clubs, and Thomas Dossevi moved to Blackpool for £1m after 24 games (11 goals, 7 assists, 7 MoM, 7.75 rating, almost all from the right wing, that'll do nicely!)

Anyone still play this, or you all on 2011? The missus was watching some shite on the tv, I was bored so started a new game, had a decent preseason, then got hammered 4-1 by gillingham :-/ they had 6 shots, I had almost 18. They got every break, one goal came after a clearance from Douggie hit Ferry's back and bounced over Greer's head and Jackson did him for pace, another as my other CB went down injured, long ball from midfield and Jackson again did Greer for pace. Pissed me off, I'd made sure Greer wasn't marking him, sods law it was him and not the nippy lad I got on loan from Chelsea. The other 2 were counter attacks, I hit the post 3 times. Sigh.

Beat Plymouth 2-1 in the league cup, then beat Dongs 3-2 at home. Huzzah!

Still playing! Lost in the playoff semis to Leeds, in the 10/11 season I'm top. Doing well. Offered the Bolton job, turned it down. Now been offered the Newcastle job, I'm sorely tempted...
