Title: Charlton wager Post by: jimmy_onions on Friday, October 16, 2009, 11:36:12 My Charlton supporting uncle, who moved to a most pleasant part of San Fransisco many moons back, was over the other weekend. He is not short of a bob or two...
He offered me this wager....if Swindon beat Charlton over the two games (on aggregate) then he would pay for myself and family to stay with them for a week or two. If Charlton beat swindon, then I pay for him to fly over and watch a charlton game of his choice... after about 5 mins thought I went for it! Title: Re: Charlton wager Post by: Batch on Friday, October 16, 2009, 11:41:08 Have you got spare money to burn?!
SF is a great place, or I though it was when I went back in the late 90's. I assume you've been over there before? Title: Re: Charlton wager Post by: jimmy_onions on Friday, October 16, 2009, 11:46:47 yeah several times, hols there are great. Since (althought they wont admit it and very deep down) they miss their extended family and british roots, they treat us like kings when we are there...very tempting.

Title: Re: Charlton wager Post by: Spy on Saturday, October 17, 2009, 00:00:31 bad odds
Title: Re: Charlton wager Post by: Hammer on Saturday, October 17, 2009, 04:12:20 Bad odds indeed ! And there's no real way of hedging against it unless by some kind of spread-bet. I think Jimmy's uncle knows his Onions.
Title: Re: Charlton wager Post by: jimmy_onions on Saturday, October 17, 2009, 06:33:05 what happens if its even? (1-1) and (1-1) It goes on something like first person to score, fewest number of yellows, exact details still to be decided... Title: Re: Charlton wager Post by: Bob's Orange on Saturday, October 17, 2009, 08:49:42 I'm going to Charlton away so we won't win. Sorry
Title: Re: Charlton wager Post by: michael on Saturday, October 17, 2009, 11:06:11 If he loved you he'd give you the draw as well
Title: Re: Charlton wager Post by: Summer of Noughtie Nine on Sunday, October 18, 2009, 14:01:59 My son and his Exeter supporting friend play l'oser gets their bollocks slapped' when the teams play each other. It's done on an individual game basis and a draw is treated as a victory to the away side - therefore my son's mate has very sore bollocks so far this season.
Title: Re: Charlton wager Post by: Batch on Sunday, October 18, 2009, 14:51:44 Is your son and his 'chum' at public school?

Honours even at half time.....my summer holiday for this season could be sorted come 5pm saturday....or, I could be £700 down! Title: Re: Charlton wager Post by: jayohaitchenn on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, 09:26:31 You've got a great chance to be fair.
Title: Re: Charlton wager Post by: Freddies Ferret on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, 09:44:50 Yep a cracking chance! You decided what the tiebreaker is yet?
Title: Re: Charlton wager Post by: jimmy_onions on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, 09:54:07 there is some elaborate system on based earliest goal scored or something or other, however, if its a draw I think we will come to a gentlemans agreement and say no one wins...
Title: Re: Charlton wager Post by: Freddies Ferret on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, 10:04:12 Do away goals count?
Title: Re: Charlton wager Post by: jimmy_onions on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, 10:18:18 yeah, If I remember rightly its away goals first, and if that is even then it goes to first goal scored I believe. But as I said, if it gets to that level of detail all the fun has gone and I think we might call it quits..
ps if they do win, I will be the one in the town end going even more bananas that normal, on the phone! Title: Re: Charlton wager Post by: Sippo on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, 10:40:54 Hawaii surely? Hawaii is the other side of San Fran if that makes sense. So its further away from Blighty. Title: Re: Charlton wager Post by: thepeoplesgame on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, 11:15:20 Hawaii is the other side of San Fran if that makes sense. So its further away from Blighty. Indeed. I'd have thought Nova Scotia should be about right. Title: Re: Charlton wager Post by: iffy on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, 11:45:54 The best way to price this bet is that he pays Club Class if you win, you pay Economy if he wins.
Title: Re: Charlton wager Post by: jimmy_onions on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, 11:48:07 Well my end of that arrangement is in place, still to confirm that his side though!

Title: Re: Charlton wager Post by: jimmy_onions on Saturday, February 6, 2010, 20:09:39 on away goals, yes, number of yellows yes, but, would feel a bit guilty accepting this bet on the strenght of that.
