Apologies if this has been discussed before but....

According to WikiPedia Simon Ferry's contract with Celtic expires at the end of the current season (4 1/2 year deal signed in January 2006). So if my understanding is correct, as he is registered with the Scottish FA, we can sign him on a pre-contract in January and we won't have to pay a single penny for him.

Obviously there is the question of why he'd sign with us if he has a career ahead of him with Celtic. But an equally good question is why Celtic would loan him out and put him in the shop window given his contractual circumstances.

Good points johnny...the fact is that he has had serious injury problems...think he was out for nearly two years...think he may become available but whether we can hold onto him is another story.

 I Was told that he had signed a new two year deal with Celtic the day before they sent him out on loan.

Well i'd love to sign him. Think he's pure quality. Not sure it will happen though.

I can't find any mention anywhere on the interweb of him signing a new contract. Various articles when we signed him all say his contract runs to the end of the season as do a couple of Celtic fan sites.


I'm not sure it will either. But maybe he'll look at Simon Cox and see us as a positive move forwards that will lead to a Championship (or higher) move in a year or two. Of course, Cox doing shit at WBA doesn't help with that argument.

But if I'm right that he will be out of contract and we won't have to pay a penny for him (no tribunal as its a move between countries) then you'd have thought we could make him a pretty convincing financial package.

Bear in mind that not all contracts are reported on Tinterweb and never rely on Wikipedia for anything.

Only Celtic loanee where this has happened was O'Dea who is at Reading.

Squad number 53,he will have to be special to stay in their first team,I imagine we would have a good chance of getting him if he's enjoyed his time here and his family or girlfriend is willing to move down here.

He may be like Scott Cuthbert, and want to play first team games instead of playing in Celtic reserves.

Judging this its obvious they rate him highly.....but will Ferry be happy to be a bit part player at Celtic,when theres a chance he could be showing of his wares in the Championship next season!..only time will tell,the downside being if he goes back in the new year we havnt got anyware near good enough to replace him.....like Easton but a totally different player and got to say Timlin aint impressed...............still feel that stint at left back totally crushed him.

What i meant is that they have a good number of players at the club,not forgetting they more than likely have a nice transfer budget aswell,the gist of it being he's more than likely down the pecking order in terms of squad selection every game.

My understanding is the under 24 rule is an English FA thing and wouldn't apply as he is currently registered with the Scottish FA - unless there is a special agreement between the two FA's.

That article is a bit dated and from Celtics previous manager, whether Mowbray feels the same we do not know.

And we only have to pay compensation if Celtic offer him a new deal at least matching the deal he is on presently.
