I just got back from Brentford. It was a great game to watch - goals at both ends, lots of hard work in the midfield, and some good football at times. I nearly had a heart attack in the last 10 minutes but thankfully we held on!

I wouldn't say anybody had a bad game today really, despite conceding twice. Macca had a bit of fun taking on the defenders, and set up our 2nd very nicely. I was also glad to see Revell and Hutch both get on the score sheet, even if we had wasted a chance or two prior to going 1-0 up.

The game was also great off the pitch. About 1200 of us there, and we sang for the fully 90 minutes. And it was great fun mocking the guys who got chucked out of the home end, as well as seeing their keeper get wound up when he couldn't take his goal kick - he actually booted a ball straight into the away end - I'm pretty sure a Reading player got into a lot of trouble for that a few years back.

On the whole, 3 away points is always a great result. Brentford had chances to score more but for all the opportunities they had, Lucas didn't have to make too many difficult saves, most were straight at him. How nice it is to be reflecting on a game where we were the side with the clinical finishing!

I was sat high up in the main stand and had a very good view of all of the goals,with four
of them being scored at the covered home end.

First goal was really well worked down the right,with good interplay between Amankwaah and
JPM.This was complimented by Revell's run and movement accross the box,where he ran onto
the ball and despatched it with real aplomb into the roof of the net.You could see how much it
meant to him,in opening his account for us.

Second goal,came about from our midfield and strikers pressing their midfield and back four,
resulting in Macca playing a good through ball for Hutchinson to run onto,with him slipping it
under the keeper.Hutchinson then ran the lenghth of the field to celebrate with the Town fans.

Second half we started very slowly inviting Brentford pressure.They hit the woodwork twice
and with a mixture of good defending and bad finishing we held onto our lead, until we stood
off Cort and let him score with a low shot from outside the box.

Revell scored his second and our third when we played a diagonal ball accross the box,Revell
worked the defender and fired a cracker into the top far corner.Great celebrations infront of
the Town fans!

We then let Brentford back into the game when Douglas got in Lucas's way, resulting in them
scoring their second.

I'd like to give a word of mention to Douglas and Ferry, who were immense with their covering
and workrate.Unfortunately,we've picked up knocks to our front players and they may struggle
to be fit for next tuesday and even next saturday.

My Scottish mate (Queen of the South fan) keeps on going on about our third goal.  He's right.  Watching it sail in to the net from behind was beautiful.

Good all round performance from the lads this afternoon.  Not the best defensively...thought both their goals were soft... but thought we held together well for the win.  We're not the cutting side we need to be - obviously missing the man up front to partner with Revell (despite his heroics today) - but we're on the way.  We look like play off contenders, and it's been a fair few years since I've been able to say that in October.

Thing is with JPM is that its not a suprise when he plays well these days.....which is a good thing.

As for Bull, I think that just highlights how stupid some footballers are. Kicking that ball back into the Swindon end was the biggest laugh of the day, because you knew exactly what was going to happen when he started his run up for the goal kick. Hope he escapes any punishment. Surely having 3000 odd people laughing at you (including many Home supporters) is punishment enough.

I didnt think we were going to get a goal down our end, so well done Revell, Im sure that goal will stay with many of us for many years, a wonderful moment. He tee'd one up just like that at Exeter and blasted it over, but yesterday he did it to absolute perfection.

Ferry and Douglas were magnificent again. Quite often you see opposition fans moaning about the result, but they dont realise the running and the pressure these two create. We are lacking pace in the team, and weve now lost our 2 fastest players to hamstring injuries.

A rational manager would have stated that his team were worth a point for the fightback.  Having won promotion last season, the adjustment to the better strikers in Div. I had to be made quickly for the team to climb the table.  With Swindon only having lost once this season, the visitors were expected to be confident, and a good start was essential.  Unfortunately, that didn't happen, but the players made a great come back.


I can only wish Hartlepool well on Friday, and have a good laugh at the drivel afterwards.

Brilliant away day, everybody knows about the performance but I’d prefer to talk about the support which was magnificent.

Fantastic away end with a great atmosphere, after the dead atmosphere at Exeter I was pleased to hear singing before the game even kicked off. Great noise and it was like a moshpit at the front to the right, everyone having a great time. I actually missed the first goal due to bouncing around to my only Swindon and not paying attention, although I probably wouldn’t have been able to see much anyway.

Some quality songs being sang which I haven't heard for years as well...such hits as 'joey beachumps illegitimate' 'build a bonfire' ‘wings of a sparrow’ and others I cant actually remember.

Very harsh to chuck the lads in the Brentford end out, it was very comical anyway so who cares? :-D it was great taunting them and some great unoriginal but still very funny songs sent their way in the form of abuse.

Any chance we can create a tenth of that noise at home? We’d have a decent atmosphere if we could!

I don't get to as many matches as I'd like but it's a fair while since I heard my own personal favourite about turning the Manor Ground into a public lavatory, even that got an outing.

I was also at the perfect angle to know the third was going smack in the top corner - that was sweet.

Ah yes turned the manor ground, another classic. What i also liked was how some young lads of about 14 were cracking up at some of the songs and had clearly never heard them before....introducing a whole new generation to them.

I didn't get a hangover which is more than miraculous, in fact I'm very surprised I remember the day at all. I think that's what happens when you don't drink properly for a while then have an all dayer. Regardless, I'm very pleased. I also managed to avoid any injury when Rich stacked it due to my over exuberant celebrations. I wonder how Fred's shin is.

Anyway a quality away day and my fears of a 1-1 bore draw were unfounded. I'll probably email FGW today and try and get something out of them :)

Some thoughts:

Did anyone else go in the scuzzy pub on the other corner of the away end from the Griffin? Had a drink which could have been Guinness, could have been beer.....not the greatest.

The pitch looked too small (or the players too big).  No wonder there were chances all over the shop.  Or, it might have been the drink.

I did think we were lucky to win - although we were excellent for half an hour they opened us up very, very easily at times. They'll do OK.  Ferry and JPM were the pick for me and with three goals from open play and all 'assists' from the wide players in a 4-4-2........rewards for a brave selection from Mr W.

Brentford are so constricted by space that after the game the likes of Danny, Fitton and Watkins had a 5 minute walk through the randoms to the compound where their cars were.  We might think it's tough to develop, but fair play to Brentford for just surviving.

It took bloody ages to get back to Paddington....although thanks to FGW for upgrading 10 of us to First Class from Oxfud.
