which I sat in for many hours last Sat afternoon meaning I missed a trip to my beloved Makro!!! grrrrrrrrrrr

Wouldn't it be quicker to cut through to the A303 from Swindon? No roadworks and straight into Exeter.

And it avoids going anywhere near Brizzle, which must be a good thing.

Surely the A303 would be a better option?

2 and a half hours max to Exeter from Swindon, even at that time of day.

On a coach down the A303 it'd take longer though surely?

I wouldnt have thought so mate, maybe add another 15 mins on top of that but Exeter is a lot closer than a lot of people think.

Certainly no more than 2 and 3 quarter hours on the A303.

I'm about 30-40 mins away from Exeter and and an hour and 45mins away from Swindon. Even a coach should make it in 2 and a half hours.

Sorry for being a thicko, but what would be the best way of getting onto the A303 from Swindon?
We want to leave at four due to work, but are getting worried about these roadworks at rush hour.

Go down junction 15 and carry on beyond Marlborough. Should eventually get to the junction to go onto the A303 before Salisbury I think.

Spot on onion....but take the motorway...its alot quicker even with the roadworks,the 303 is very stop start and it takes half an hour to get on it....you will be in Bristol by 4,30..even if it takes 20 mins in the roadworks you will hit Exeter round 6ish....even if your a slowcoach 6.30.

Best way onto the 303 is to go down the M4, come off at Chippenham, then go cross country. It's the way I go most weekends so I know what I'm talking about.

I would go:

Swindon to Devizes
Take Salisbury road
Off at Tilshead (right) to Chitterne
right at T junction in Chitterne for Warminster.
Right at T junction on A36 for Bath.
2nd large roundabout turn left A350 Shaftesbury.3 miles...
Turn right on to A303....

Avoids Stonehenge and single carriage A303.

Also avoids Marlborough - Trowbridge - Westbury and other ball ache towns!!

Dunno yet mate, depends on how cheap it is and what we're like at Brentford.
