Title: Sol says goodbye after 1 match?
Post by: SCM on Wednesday, September 23, 2009, 02:35:19
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1215409/Sol-Campbell-walks-Notts-County--just-game.html

I would love it if this this is true. It's the Daily Mail though, so, yeah.

That'sa annoying - I had him down to walk after three games.  I've lost a fiver on that one.

That's terrific. What on earth was he expecting?

Youd have thought he'd have liked the hustle and bustle of the lower leagues, he'd have more chance of copping a quick feel in league 2 rather than the premiership..

I would imagine the NCFC supporters are feeling a tad nervous that my prediction of a false dawn is closing in.

I hope for their sake it works out OK with the investers despite the 'Camp Bell' walking out on them

On a serious note, Sol is an interesting one - he had that wobble at Arsenal when he disappeared for a few days, and the Notts County decision was, in my view, bewildering.  It wouldn't have been just about the money - he would (and to my understanding, did) have had plenty of offers from premier league clubs.

He may just be one top class footballer with something interesting to say - I might even consider reading any autobiography.

Of course, he could just be a bit thick.

Very interesting article yet. A bit worrying for Notts County fans mind.

If I were a Notts County fan, I'd be pretty relieved Sol's walked - at least saves them from the possibility of being left with a Ruddock style lump on their wage bill if the Munto thing turns out to be fool's gold. But then I'd also be worried by the possibility that he walked because maybe he found out something the rest of us don't yet know.

The Guardian have it in their reporting that he is believed to want to leave for "sporting reasons" - if this is true, it might be the funniest thing I've heard all year.

Campbell:  "I need to leave - their players aren't any good".  League 2 didn't tip you off then, Sol.

I hope this is the case.

I would have been surprised if he stayed there very long - I just can't make any sense of his decision to go there in the first place. League Two is probably the best fourth division in the world, but it's still a huge step down from the Premiership. The man's insane.

What's the bet on him being back at Spurs very soon then?!

Newcastle next i reckon - think this would suit both parties - he seems just about crazy enough to fit in with that club.

It won't happen - Harry's got his reputation to think of. He'd be hated if he signed Campbell!

Didn't he say something like the County players are hesitant in posession before quitting. What does he expect in league 2, a team full of Peles!

It's confirmed now :

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/n/notts_county/8270272.stm

But I do like the following quote :

Campbell "could not adjust to the long-term nature of the project under way at Notts County".

WTF ?

Translation: They didn't invest as much up front as he expected and now he looks like an idiot being there on his own when he was expecting Ronaldo and Torres to join him.

Seems about right - do you really think he expected other big names to join him down there?

the whole situation at notts county is a bit odd.bring in sven on mega bucks and the same with campbell.but the rest of it is all still what it was really.why not add cheaper but high quality players in a number of positions?

I agree. I think I'm right in saying they got Schmeichel right? That's the kind of player they should be after - high quality but not the very top level. If they got a few upper League One or Championship players in they'd walk the division without having to pay as much as they would to players like Campbell.

All this Notts County stuff, not really noing who owns the club and what there upto, makes me realise how lucky we are not to have similar here with that Best holdings lot.

If I were a Notts County player I think i'd be happy he's gone. With him being on £40k a week, he was probably walking around giving it the 'big I am'....

I wonder what his signing on fee was.

You'd have to think that it was to grab the headline and make people take notice. It is perhaps easier to recruit quality if you show your ambition up front with a couple of names.

It's gone a bit wrong though, the ownership coming under scrutiny, Sol leaving, etc!

There'll be some technicality about the fact he was a free agent then signed for somebody after the window shut I'd imagine

Quote
Eriksson claims not to know why the player walked away from the club, but insists that reason would be grossly unfair should it be true.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/n/notts_county/8273411.stm

Is it just me or is there no fucking logic or sense to that sentence whatsoever?
