Title: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: iffy on Monday, September 14, 2009, 14:19:30 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11719_5559151,00.html
Whether or not you'd sell Macca for £200k, it's a nice statement of intent that the board aren't going to roll over for transfers anymore. Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: Dozno9 on Monday, September 14, 2009, 14:24:43 He's right, even Real Madrid couldn't afford to asking price. Apparently we want £450m for him.
Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: reeves4england on Monday, September 14, 2009, 14:26:56 I'm glad we didn't sell. I've no idea what price tag I'd put on Macca, but he is definitely an asset to the team on the pitch, so if we don't need to sell him we shouldn't accept anything less than what we want. If Fitton and Wilson have decided they'd rather have Macca than say £300k, there's no point selling him even for that much.
Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: BANGKOK RED on Monday, September 14, 2009, 14:27:38 Quote "Swindon wanted an absolute fortune, an absolute fortune, for a lad in his last year, which Real Madrid couldn't afford," he told the Pink'un. I don't understand ??? Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: Ardiles on Monday, September 14, 2009, 14:28:51 ie Not for Sale.
Fair play to the board. Two years ago, Lambert would have been asked along for a cosy chat with Diamandis and then asked to name his price. Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: BANGKOK RED on Monday, September 14, 2009, 14:29:52 Didn't we pay 50k or something ourselves. And he expects us to just move him along for the same price.
What a numpty. Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: reeves4england on Monday, September 14, 2009, 14:31:02 Well, Lambert is complaining saying Macca would have cost an arm and a leg. I don't see his problem - he'd be getting two arms and two legs in return?!
Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: Chubbs on Monday, September 14, 2009, 14:48:58 its good to hear things like this, but say fitton said you can have him for £2 million, its not as if fitton expected lambert to say, yeah ok, here you are, its more a statement of he's not for sale. can lambert not see that, or does he really think we value macca at 2mill (thats just a figure i made up~)
Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: BANGKOK RED on Monday, September 14, 2009, 14:59:06 The Chubbs one speakeath the truth.
Has Lambert not stopped to think for one second that maybe, just maybe, we'd actually quite like Macca to be playing for us and not Norwich nor anybody else. Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: Rich Pullen on Monday, September 14, 2009, 15:19:38 Can we not skip past the logical discussions and jump right into the mindless name calling to the point where Norwich become a bitter rival? :)
Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: FlashGordon on Monday, September 14, 2009, 15:24:54 The only thing id like us to act on from that article is the fact Macca is in the last yr of his contract...Fitton and DW will have to sit down and decide by January whether or not to cash in on Macca and sell in Jan or offer him a new contract so as to make sure when he does move we DO get money for him
Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: pumbaa on Monday, September 14, 2009, 15:26:40 Its simple. We just don't like teams that play in yellow.
Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: Summerof69 on Monday, September 14, 2009, 15:35:42 Its simple. We just don't like teams that play in yellow. Valid point, and that we rate him higher than Norwich want to pay. There is no longer any bargain sales at STFC anymore !! Maybe someone should tell Lambert that our owners has bigger pockets than Delia, who tried to sell the club last year decause she was running out of money. Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: Barry Scott on Monday, September 14, 2009, 15:51:52 its good to hear things like this, but say fitton said you can have him for £2 million, its not as if fitton expected lambert to say, yeah ok, here you are, its more a statement of he's not for sale. can lambert not see that, or does he really think we value macca at 2mill (thats just a figure i made up~) I suspect that's exactly what happened. It's what i do on FM, set asking prices of £50m and then occasionally get bids of 30m with 50% sell ons plus about 5 players. It also means you scare off bids and prolonged interest. (In the real world and the virtual.) Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: Power to people on Monday, September 14, 2009, 15:57:04 The only thing id like us to act on from that article is the fact Macca is in the last yr of his contract...Fitton and DW will have to sit down and decide by January whether or not to cash in on Macca and sell in Jan or offer him a new contract so as to make sure when he does move we DO get money for him I suspect that it will be dealt with, but some players may not want to renew prefering to wait and see what league we are in as IF we gained promotion they can ask for more money, or keep their options open, Norwich may appeal to Macca if they go up and we don't for example Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: Batch on Monday, September 14, 2009, 16:27:49 Norwich may appeal to Macca I can't imagine Norwich appealing to anyone. Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: pauld on Monday, September 14, 2009, 16:41:56 Can we not skip past the logical discussions and jump right into the mindless name calling to the point where Norwich become a bitter rival? :) Fucking tightwad yokel carrot crunchers. That do for a start?Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Monday, September 14, 2009, 16:48:48 Norwich should just get the message now I think.
Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: Rich Pullen on Monday, September 14, 2009, 16:58:59 Fucking tightwad yokel carrot crunchers. That do for a start? That'll do PD, that'll do. Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: pauld on Monday, September 14, 2009, 17:09:54 That'll do PD, that'll do. Shame donkey didn't post the insult really :)Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: SCM on Monday, September 14, 2009, 17:14:14 Didn't we pay 50k or something ourselves. And he expects us to just move him along for the same price. What he meant was we didn't just want an extra 50k on top of what they'd already bid, I think. What a numpty. Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: Weasel on Monday, September 14, 2009, 17:18:10 He wants speed and some 'young, hungry lads who can give that to me'..
Has he tried Blackbird Leys? Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: iffy on Monday, September 14, 2009, 17:23:41 I like the way Lambert ties himself in knots in the classic manner of a second-hand car salesman negotiating. You can almost hear him sucking his teeth.
"Well he is rubbish, so he's not worth much.....but he is ace, so I'd love him in the team....but if Fitton's listening, then I think he's useless....but he's really quick, so I think he's great....only, he's rubbish and you're living in dreamland if you think I'll part-exchange that....Tell you what, I'll take him off your hands for nothing and give you a big discount on a Skoda Octavia." Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: oxford_fan on Monday, September 14, 2009, 17:26:15 I can't imagine Norwich appealing to anyone. Norwich is a fine city! Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: michael on Monday, September 14, 2009, 18:09:56 I appreciate that Paul Lambert is Scottish, and therefore was probably shit-faced when giving this interview (which would explain how confusing it is)... is he effectively saying they offered less than £50k?
If so ya can get tae France ya wee buftee Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: Batch on Monday, September 14, 2009, 18:30:51 Norwich is a fine city! Compared to Oxford, yes. Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: Summerof69 on Monday, September 14, 2009, 18:34:00 Compared to Oxford, yes. That's not saying much... Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: RobertT on Monday, September 14, 2009, 20:59:31 Having just watched them, Lambert is right in his assessment. Very one paced and other than Holt looked a little toothless. I'd suggest he asks Barcelona to help Real Madrid fund the deal for him.
Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: pauld on Monday, September 14, 2009, 21:21:18 I like the way Lambert ties himself in knots in the classic manner of a second-hand car salesman negotiating. You can almost hear him sucking his teeth. He's a model of simplicity and coherence though compared to this straightforward thinking from John "Taking League One by storm" Barnes:"Well he is rubbish, so he's not worth much.....but he is ace, so I'd love him in the team....but if Fitton's listening, then I think he's useless....but he's really quick, so I think he's great....only, he's rubbish and you're living in dreamland if you think I'll part-exchange that....Tell you what, I'll take him off your hands for nothing and give you a big discount on a Skoda Octavia." Quote "The players have to take responsibility and if I could make changes I would." "I'm thinking of making changes, if I'm still here, and I'm hoping to be," Barnes told BBC Radio Merseyside. "We can't get players in because we haven't got the money to bring players in. "But I'm sure we'll have a conversation this week now. So we'll have to wait and see what happens. "But it can't continue because I can't have those players out there making those decisions." Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: Rich Pullen on Monday, September 14, 2009, 21:35:33 Barnes is covering all bases.
Tranmere's hilarious decision to sack Moore and appoint Barnes and McAteer should be mentioned in every thread :D Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: reeves4england on Monday, September 14, 2009, 21:36:30 Sorry... why does Lambert think Macca would choose to swap top-6 Swindon for bottom-half-Norwich anyway?
:D Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: jonny72 on Monday, September 14, 2009, 21:45:08 Deliah Smith's cooking?
Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: Doore on Monday, September 14, 2009, 21:50:15 Sorry... why does Lambert think Macca would choose to swap top-6 Swindon for bottom-half-Norwich anyway? :D I might get lambasted for saying this, but perhaps because with their stadium, support base and set-up they have more long-term potential as a football club than us? Don't hate me, I'm just being realistic. Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: pauld on Monday, September 14, 2009, 21:51:18 I might get lambasted for saying this, but perhaps because with their stadium, support base and set-up they have more long-term potential as a football club than us? I know. I was just taking the opportunity to make us seem more attractive than them while it's possible. Come the end of the season it might not be!Don't hate me, I'm just being realistic. Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: Simon Pieman on Monday, September 14, 2009, 22:26:19 I love the way people (not necessarily on here) talk up Norwich as some sort of super club. The only things they've done in the past ten years are getting promoted to the Premiership and winning the Mr Clutch Cup.
If it wasn't for Alan Partridge nobody would have even heard of Norwich. Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: Doore on Monday, September 14, 2009, 22:32:07 I don't think people talk them up as a super club, but their recent history, say the past 15-20 years (who can forget Norwich beating Bayern Munich), is rather impressive compared to most (not all) clubs at this level. Combine that with their set-up, stadium and support and I think its fair to recognise their potential. Of course, the flip side is that last year they really underperformed on the pitch.
Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: Rich Pullen on Monday, September 14, 2009, 22:50:49 The Norwich City board allowed Bryan Gunn to bring in several players commanding decent wages only to sack Gunn and bring in a manager who wants to rebuild further.
Lambert can moan all he wants, it's not our problem that he's struggling to find funds. As for Norwich City, they're a divvy 3 team like the rest of us whether they like it or not :) Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: Dozno9 on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, 11:24:34 I can hear Delia calling Macca now:
"Where are you?? Where are you??...Let's be 'avin you!!" Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: Ardiles on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, 12:39:08 Norwich have got a fanbase that we can only dream of. It's easy to joke about Norfolk (and I have, on many occasions), but the whole county is loyal to Norwich City just about. If only you could bottle that and bring it down to Wiltshire.
Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: Doore on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, 12:42:04 Norwich have got a fanbase that we can only dream of. Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, 12:44:15 If Macca goes to Norwich it would be because they paid more.
Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: Rich Pullen on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, 13:10:44 This has nothing to do with Norwich City as a club or a fanbase though has it? It's got to do with their current boss whinging about our high valuation of our player?
It doesn't matter if Real Madrid or Rochdale came in for him - if the valuation was met we'd accept and if the wages were good the player would leave. Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: The Artist Billy Paynter on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, 13:24:16 They cant even beat MK?! :D

If only you could bottle that and bring it down to Wiltshire. 3 times the fanbase.....should mean not taking the piss with degrading offers....unsettling a player of ours if your not serious....good fans but now a mickey mouse club... Title: Re: Lambert shocked at McNamee price Post by: [email protected] on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, 11:44:16 Well if your current players are "much of a muchness" and you think "he has talent, a bit of speed, a bit of pace" you are going to have to splash the cash, it doesn't matter who the player is or where they come from. If you don't like it, then f**k off and shut up!
Cheeky c**t obviously thought he could pull a fast one. |
