Title: Swindon boss makes winger warning
Post by: [email protected] on Wednesday, September 9, 2009, 12:23:04
Just want to get this on before the News Monkey...

Swindon boss Danny Wilson has warned Norwich that Anthony McNamee will not leave the County Ground unless they meet his valuation of the player.

I think it would be daft to sell Mcnamee. He is one of these players that is just a little bit different from most other players in this league. Granted he can be a luxury and sometimes I wish he'd just go past his man rather that do all these step overs but there is no doubt that his crossing ability is excellent and he has the beating of most full backs in this league.

Is he out of contract end of this season ? im pretty sure he was on a 2 1/2 year contract when he signed and now 26, so he could walk away for nothing

Yeah, think you're right.

His crossing's good, but for me it's the super-glue-covered-boots-dribbling-skill I love.

if they offer us decent money i'd sell...

again, im not sure why they are after a left winger as Hoolahan is a decent player, better than Macca

Tricky winger, lots of pace, crosses well...

After 15 years, I think Norwich are finally trying to replacing Ruel Fox.  If they want to buy Macca for the same £2.25 million that Newcastle paid them for Fox in 1994, I say let them have him.

They could face a bidding war - Michael Flahtly wants him for Riverdance

Cant make my mind up about Macca...disapointed me to be honest, away from home he should be our trump card with his pace...dont think he will leave though.

What sort of money are they talking about, anything over £300,000 then offload.
I enjoy watching Macca on matchdays, I get quite excited when I see him one on one, then very deflated when he doesnt beat his man. I'm sure he will be a better player in a couple of seasons, just not the finished article as yet, so off load if the money is right.

He's the best winger we have, if we were to sell him I'd be disappointed. A fee of £500-750k is what we should be asking for.

Isn't this a bit of an old story now the transfer window has passed though?

Something sounds a little dubious to me.
On the one hand Fitton is holding on to players, yet Macca will go if Norwich ''meets his valuation''. Sounds as if Macca won't have his contract renewed and that a deal is being haggled over in the meantime.

Nah sounds like Norwich made an offer and we rejected it to me.

Every player has a price - if somebody offered £1m for Macca we'd bite their hands off (and wonder what planet they were on)

He can still go on loan and make it permanent in January.

Am i alone in thinking we saw the best of him in his first couple of months here.  This is when he was beating defenders and putting in top qaulity crosses.

The crosses aren't there anymore, he seldom beats the two defenders he attracts.  Wasting time with pretty stepovers that fool nobody.

It's not that I dislike macca, it's I think he can do better.  I've watched the other guy whoes name escapes me at this moment in time and I think he'll catch Macca up sooner rather than later.

If the price is right move Macca on.

I personally think that we should not sell Macca unless its about 1mill.
He is the type of player that gets us fans off our seats. Against southend when he came off we went all quite and there was no buzz when we got the ball out wide. He may waste some time with the pretty stepovers, but he is so unpredictable it is hard for defenders to know what he is going to do with the ball. There cant be many wingers in Lge 1 who are as good as Macca. So we should not sell, or if we do sell we should ask for Wes Hoolahan as exchange

luxury player.at times a potent weapon,at others a complete waste of a player on the park.
he has great ability, but decent managers do their work on him and stifle his play.he's not very versatile is he?
£250,000 would be a fair price and one i'd take for him.

His form did drop off soon after joining but Wilson has got him playing quite well. I maintain he is our best winger. At our level I think we have to accept that you're either going to get an attacking player who can play past the opposition or a player who does better in a narrower system. Come to think of it there arent many complete wingers about at even the highest level. I dont think Macca is a luxury player because we'd have created very little last season without him. The defence are coping fine too.

Unless we could replace him with someone like Robson-Kanu, I wouldn't get rid of him.

We should try and get HRK back.

In the current market I cant see Macca being worth much more than £100k, to say hes worth a million is utter fucking bollocks, one trick pony who has one good game in every 3 or 4.

Defenders know how to play him now, sell him while hes still an assett and before his contract runs out and he leaves on a free.

A non goal scoring winger who some people think could be worth between 750K - 1 Mill ?

Shame some of you never saw David Moss or Ian Miller, who were class wingers and went
onto have very good careers at higher levels.

Norwich are our league rivals and Macca is probably the best winger. A high valuation may not be realistic but for these reasons that's why his valuation is pushed up.

Considering Norwich paid £250k for OTJ, I think Macca's got to be worth at least that.

Maybe 200-300k, but if anyone thinks an average 26 Year old league 1 winger is worth a million, they're mental.

My own guess is that Wilson wanted to counter the fact that Colchester are a big hard-working side. However, as it turned out the best way to undo them was with neat football, so I was surprised Macca didn't come on earlier, even at HT.

Should have started with Macca today, Hutchingson really has got to improve, people slag odf Tope but he has some decent aspects to his play i.e pace, work rate and his finish was a nice one. Ben hasn't hown anything yet and shoul be dropped. We need more pace up top so would play Tope in the front two forme rather than out wide!

if u play Tope up top in a 442 u lose a man from midfield, which is why we look so solid, id carry on with the system we currently play, but i agree Hutchinson isnt pulling up any trees and Macca should have started today

Against a team like that macca would have got knocked to the ground every touch, althought it would have worked a bit better if Hutchinson was a decent player. So on balance not much between it really.

So who ran most the length of the pitch, with the ball, kept his head, looked up and picked out the right pass for Odabeyi's goal?

Hutchinson is starting to get a lot of stick. It's hard to defend him because I don't seem to notice him much, but credit is surely deserved for his part in our equaliser.

Exactly. I see a lot of comments slating him and stating Tope's got something about him. Let's be honest, they've both had a similar impact since being here, so if you're going to criticise one then the other shouldn't be immune.

I don't think Hutchinson did much wrong yesterday, but he needs to sort out his positioning on the pitch to become effective. Tope needs to take the ball with him, stop falling over and losing the ball. I was genuinly concerned whenever he started dribbling the ball in our own half.

I still think they'll both get better with games and they did create and score our only goal yesterday.

I was similarly concerned when I saw Odabeyi come short for the ball. Thankfulyl he only did it once or twice. Pretty bad when you don't trust a player with the ball in your own half!
