Title: Transfer Deadline day
Post by: pauld on Monday, August 31, 2009, 11:22:39
Well, no, I'm not expecting a huge amount of excitement around this tbh but just thought we should have our own transfer deadline day thread. So apart from every retired and semi-retired player to have featured in a World XI over the past 15 years to Notts County, where does the TEF reckon the places to watch are?

The Tongan King should have started this thread, that way we would have been guaranteed big signings.

Clealy Sheehan would be a good signing, but can we afford the luxury of another defender?

You got to keep an eye on Spurs isnt it they seem to be buying loads at the moment, and of course pompey will probably be desperate to get any player they can, and then as said Notts County will probably want a few more trophy signings for Sven

Looks like Brian Howard could be joing the plastics :

Yorkshire sources suggest Sheffield United could be set to offload Brian Howard, just eight months after paying Barnsley £500,000 for the midfielder. The chat is that Howard was to be used as a makeweight in a bid to sign Reading's James Harper and even though Harper has turned down a move to Bramall Lane, Howard could still be heading for Berkshire. Harper may well be heading to Wolves instead, having been close to joining them last month."

I go past Chelseas training ground at Cobham a lot, there are nearly always saddoes stood outside the entrance hoping for a glimpse of whoever. I always wind the window down and either shout "wankers" or "Swindon" at the top of my voice. You can see the blushes easily in the rear mirror for many yards after. Petty but fun.

I think more importantly Fitton refused to even listen to any offers. I think that now we have the Cox money we do not need to sell anyone at all unless someone is going to offer something stupid of course.

Title: Re: Transfer Deadline day
Post by: jonny72 on Tuesday, September 1, 2009, 20:22:34
I think what Fitton really meant was that none of the offers were big enough - every player has his price and if a club offered that price they'd be gone. Though it does mean we don't have to sell players for any old offer, which is a nice change from the not too distant past.

Casal?
I heard Huddersfield were interested after we showed them some YouTube videos, and told them that Leeds and Charlton were both interested. Unfortunately, having already wasted so much money on strikers, they couldn't match our asking price of tuppence ha'penny.
