Title: Carling Cup Round 3
Post by: ibelieveinmrreeves on Saturday, August 29, 2009, 11:32:14
Wolves just drew Man Utd away...I wasn't that upset about going out the other night, now I'm annoyed! Would've been quality (and eerie, as we beat Wolves I believe in 96 to meet Man Utd in the next round).

Man Utd 3rd team-whoop

We could have done with the £250k plus we'd have got from the ticket sales though.

Was that when Thorne scored at Old Trafford?

I seem to remember hearing the draw on the way home from QPR ?

A quick gander at swindon-town-fc.co.uk proves you right, and that this thread is an utter shambles  :-[

Chelsea away would have been good, never been to the Bridge.

A lot of our fans seem completely oblivious of how close you are to ties like this in the League cup.

Win two games and you could get Man United at home.

Sorry, were too busy concentrating on Yeovil away to worry about that.

I remember the drubbings we got in the Premiership. Dread to think what Torres, Rooney and Drogba would do to us now.

Football is always changing so it's unfair to compare....

Andy Cole, the Shearer & Sutton strikeforce, Ian Wright, Matthew Le Tissier even Peter Beardsley were all clinical finishers back then, no different to the modern crop in strike power although not a foreigner in sight (other than the Channel Islander) :)

I think we were all a bit gutted to go out, especially the way we did, so I'm not sure what your point is?

I (think) know what spencer means, the league cup isn't generally looked on as the same awesome potential money making lottery that the FA Cup is. When in reality you've got a better chance of a good draw, what with lots of big teams starting in the second round, even if gates aren't as likely to be as big.

I assume they do a similar sizeable cut of gate receipts for the away side that they do in the FA Cup?

I think it's 1/3 for each club and  1/3 for the Football league.
