Always on the cards.People can say what they like but Noel was always very serious and obviously pissed off with the way Liam pulled out last week.

Some great music along with some shit tbf but great to watch live

Perhaps you better start the official, official matchday thread then (for which I have been slated)  :nonono:

The King of Tonga needs to do it. We would have beaten Wolves if certain people had a bit of self-restraint... ;)

I wouldn't believe a word of it. After the Chelmsford cancellation there had to be some 'publicity' to nullify the anti-climax. Noel's always been a thoroughly decent chap, Liam's always been a wanker. Deep down they love each other. But I won't lose any sleep either...off to a swinger's party in an hours time.

Went through my school days listening to Stone Roses, Charlatans and Oasis. The early Oasis stuff was pure class, Definately Maybe is still my favourite Oasis album, brings back good memories. Clearly they got worse as time went on but in the 90's they wrote (well Noel did) some top tunes.

Definitely Maybe and What's The Story are great albums. Really loved the britpop era, but agree it went downhill rapidly for them after these two albums - for me at least.

Talking of the Charlatans, did you download their free album (You Cross My Path)? Not listened to their stuff for ages but found it suprisingly good.

Yeah I have that album, to me it sounds a bit like New Order (which is no bad thing). Previous album 'Up at the Lake' I liked as well.

Probably why I like it, I love New Order. I'll try and get hold of Up at the Lake.

Noel did well to last as long as he has to be honest!

I cant see them getting back together. Noel always said once they split that was it.

Noel will sell a few records going solo.

Never a massive fan.   I did enjoy the first couple of albums but I find a lot of their early material hasn’t aged to well and a lot of the recent material is just shite by numbers.

If Noel goes solo it will be the same by numbers crap he's been spewing out for the last decade and a bit. A possible Liam solo career will be more interesting, with some good writers he could be the next Robbie Williams.

Would you want there to be a next Robbie Williams? Surely 1 is far more than enough!!

Exactly, they're written off as 'over-rated' because people love them.
Victims of their own early success i guess.

The end of an era.

Oasis were the soundtrack to my teenage years.

Live forever!

Very true.

Should have released a few of the later albums under different names. The critic's would have bummed them harder than the bloc party, and then they could come out and say, a ha, we're Oasis really!!!

Its amazing they've stayed together as long as they have, most of the other brit pop bands from the early 90's have already split up, reformed and split up again. It will be a joke if what is left of Oasis continue, the band has always been Liam and Noel plus a few others to make the numbers up - without Noel it ain't Oasis.

I'm sure they'll get back together one day, once they've done their own thing and calmed down a bit.

I'm not the biggest fan of music critics, but I'm pretty sure most would have recognised them as oasis whatever name they released them under. Unless of course they changed a bit more and did something different, but then we might not be complaining about how they'd got boring and stale and generally a bit shit.

Not that there weren't some good tunes. The Importance of Being Idle or whatever it was called springs to mind as a brilliant effort which wouldn't have seemed out of place on What's the Story.

If they don't split up they can't have a lucrative re-union tour in a few years.

What's the Story is one of the most overrated albums of all time. It's mainly a pop album that Noel knocked up in 5 minutes.

Theyve had a backlash against that 1996 hype ever since.

Definately Maybe is still underrated. Best Album Ever.

Post by: flammableBen on Sunday, August 30, 2009, 20:52:59
I don't see how Definitely Maybe is underrated. It's generally heralded as one of of the great albums of the 90's.

What's the Story is great because it's a brilliant pop album. Maybe Noel should have tried to write more good pop songs instead of living up to some self-imposed air of importance.

Whats so wrong with it being a Pop Album anyway?

Rather that than a "Rock" album.

Nothing...but they wouldnt like to be known as pop stars...they are rockers!..for me very over rated band...they got dragged along with the Manc wave..made some good records but like in America cant be bothered when it matters and always seems to be issues...for fucks sake aint they abit old to be brother squabbling.

Title: Re: Oasis

Pop songs dont generally stand the test of time. They are for a certain time and then the world moves on. Not much good if you are trying to leave a music legacy. Something like 'She's Electric' is just a jingle, wouldnt have made the B side on other albums, Roll with it would never have been a single on any other Oasis album.

Definately maybe should be heralded as one of the best albums ever. It goes beyond the 90's or Britpop or any of that. The songs that got left off it were unbelievable as well, Aquiese, Whatever.

Its up there with the most influential and important albums ever produced by a British band!

Title: Re: Oasis
Post by: flammableBen on Sunday, August 30, 2009, 21:45:49
She's Electric is a much better jingle pop song than Digsy's Dinner.

I agree that Definitely Maybe is fucking brilliant, but to draw a line of 'too poppy' between it and What's the Story seems a strange place for me.

both are great albums imo.but neither are as good as the gallaghers think they are.

having worked with oasis on numerous occasions i can quite happily say the Gallaghers are possibly 2 of the the most genuine humble musicians i have ever worked with. they also didnt mind me taking the piss out of man city. top blokes, top tunes for good times.

at the club on saturday near the end we played 3 or 4 oasis tunes, the whole place was singing every word to every song at the tops of their voices. says it all.

Oasis for me are a band that stood out during what was a fantastic era in so many ways (The 90's), they must have done something right.
