Title: I had an interview today...
Post by: Doore on Monday, August 10, 2009, 21:27:37
And was offered the job a couple of hours later.  Chuffed as hell.  Been looking for a move for a year.

Doore.

Did you end up getting a Fiat Punto in the end?

Its on order, being delivered in September.  I have since been reliably informed by numerous mates that I have bought the world's worst car.

I picked mine up last wednesday. What model did you get?

Have had no problems so far, apart from being called a poof by my fellow workers at the fire station :)

Nice.  I've got the 1.4 active in the dark red (I call it Swindon red) - what did you get?

I got the 1.4 GP 16v, in carbonio black. Wangled air con out of it too.

Paid 200 quid for my astra 5 years ago, and got near on 3k for it with the scrappage and other discounts

I wouldn't - this was the seventh in this job hunt, one in seven is not a terrific ratio!

Can you enlighten us on what the job entails? Just interested, like.

Local authority job, performance analyst.  Basically monitoring the performance of the community safety team.

Corporate bollocks in other words, but apparently corporate bollocks is what I do.

Fair play Doore. I was interested in where you might get a job in the current climate but I second guessed you.

Hmmm. I'm working for the public (and almost public - energy) sector at the mo. Depressing.

Gone are the days of a career in British manufacturing industry, aerospace, electronics, computing and just about everything else.

Entertainment, computer games and (soon to be disappearing) public sector jobs seem to be the only options.

Nice one Doore, at least the perseverance paid off.

I updated my CV the other week and applied for what looked like the sort of work I want to move in to. I got rejected within an hour :)

The amount of competition out there is mental.

I was given a Fiat Brava 1.9 tdi whilst my car was being fixed. I was quite impressed with the interior but jesus christ it was slower than a week in prison. Had 6 gears but don't think I ever needed 5 or 6 and if I closed my eyes I could have been driving a transit van. Never driving a diesel again.

Nice to be appreciated - if you can get everyone else to join in then my head can swell even bigger
How does working in IT make you good at events???

It doesn't....but I am good at organising events though, and pulling in resources as required maybe I'm being big headed but it is good to blow your own trumpet sometimes, not that I'm interested though and I wouldn't want the job either !

I cannot believe the club are going in to the new season without an events organiser.  Surely there is some premier league youth team events organiser we could get in on loan?  Yeovil have nine of them.  Wilson and Fitton must both go.  Kingy would never have let this happen.

it's events that are not to do with football i think, hopefully they have the youth team games sorted out via the FA

kingy wouldn't have let this happen though, i agree

Well done Doore. Pay rise thrown in too?

I've just spent the day preparing for a promotion assessment centre. I'm beginning to wonder why I'm bothering. I think the (close to) 9K pay rise is the only incentive.

I think the whole world should go on strike.

congrats though.

No. Its my right to moan. Two sift papers, 2 and a half hours each in one day, then a two day assessment centre with more papers and role plays. I'm going to be a recluse in January when it all kicks off for real.

Below 20k, jesus, thought it would be at least around 25k.

Im waiting to hear back on 1 application (internal) and then another external which is basically a mirror of my current job, with a higher salary.  Even though there isn't much about as such, gotta keep the feelers out there!

Its probably as well because working in events is a desirable job so to speak - everyday we get sent CV's of people wanting to work in the industry so they know they will prob feel the vacancy for not much money

Title: Re: I had an interview today...

I've just applied for a job for the first time in 5 years.  A big jump from where I am, and they have a job going at my level doing what I do now so I'm a bit concerned they'll say no to the higher ranked one and then I'd look desperate if I went for the other (which I'd take).

Anyone work for Nationwide and fancy putting a word in?

edit: well done doore

Anyway when did Personnel become HR?  A resource is a photocopier or a book (for example), I'm not a bloody resource, I'm a person.  Therefore it will always be Personnel to me.

I'm having an employee ID crisis - I used to be 000353 then the U.S. put me in a couple of systems as 00353 then we changed HR systems so I got a new ID 439692 but my old ID is still required for the other systems but sometimes I use 'prossiter' and other times I use my email address.  To make things worse some of our systems force password changes every 3 months amd some don't and one only accepts the password you were given.

Basically it's a complete head fuck everytime I log in somewhere trying to remember the correct ID and password combination... Life was a lot better when I used to be known as just 'Paul' and the only password I had was written on the bottom of my keyboard :(
