It's a shame that we've fallen so far behind an outfit like the Franchise, they've got  6 strikers of at least a decent L1 standard.

Bridges, Jemal Johnson, Easter, Wilbraham, Jabo Ibehere, and the young prospect Baldock.

Good mix of pace, bit of experience, and youthful promise...they should be there or thereabouts.

It'd be interesting to know how big their losses have been recently though, especially with the construction of the new stadium. Unless the money keeps being poured in it could still go tits up, especially if they stay in League One too long.

I was 100% set against going but I'm actually starting to consider it now. I reckon there'll be atleast 10 others in the away end...

£10 for adults according to the OS, and no suggestion that it increases on the day

Due to paying for a new turbo, the decision was already made for me. Last season I would've somehow still managed it, but this season.....

I guess I'm just a fair weather fan.

What sort of loss is acceptable to you Spencer? On pens...0-1 0-2...would another stuffing change your mind on Wilson?

We won't get stuffed tonight. Not confident of a victory, but I'm convinced the display will be better than the abortion on Saturday.

Am I right in thinking that Gillingham are the first team to beat us by more than two goals in a competitive match under Wilson's reign. I can only think of the terrible Brighton game at home where we lost by two goals to nil otherwise.

On past record we shouldn't lose heavily but I suppose now Cox's goal gluts have disappeared we can't afford to let as many as three goals in and still take away something from games.

Apparently Ince still thinks he's in the Prem, so is fielding a weakened team.

We've no option but to....hope it doesn't go to extra time then as our lot will be knackered for Sat whereas the Dongs will be fresh.  >:(

Well yeah. If he had played the same team as saturday and we had lost he would have been rightly hammered.

But his team selection and motivation of the players was absoutely tremendous tonight.

He realised Cuthbert wasnt ready and had Amankwaah back there. Big KA is in great form, lots of confidence on the ball. He rightly gave Macklin his starting chance and he was excellent. Without O'Brien, and with Macklin up front, he had to play JPM, and he produced a great display. The best display Ive seen from him since we beat Gills 5-0 in October (?) 2007. Timlin made sure he got in the game (something he didnt do saturday).

Biggest away win for years. Top marks for Wilson tonight.

I'm really liking Amankwaah at right back under Wilson's management. I thought he would come good but he's been pretty consistant since hitting form too. My only criticism is that he leaves his man a bit too often, but I realise you can't always have it all.

Hopefully McGovern can carry this performance though to future games. He's not been able to do that before but if he can then as one of his harsher critics I'll have to eat my words. Still a long season ahead for him.

i reckon mcgovern on right and obrien on left would be fucking awesome.

Title: Re: franchise away
Post by: flammableBen on Tuesday, August 11, 2009, 23:38:25
With Amankwaah basically being a wing back playing as a right back, it would be nice if we could play a more dynamic formation, especially if we're putting more men in midfield due to lack of strikers. Wing back's one side with Timlin dropping in the back from midfield. Full back the otherside moving into a more central defensive position to put more at the back when needed.

Unfortunately I'm not sure our squad is up to playing this sort of freestyle super football. I do like to think of Amankwaah as our very own Cafu though.

I wouldnt get carried away. He has had good games in isolation before.

But I think he realises he has to pull out all the stops to get in the team this season.

having spoken to you before about him I know we have very differing opinions, I do think he could be one of our key players this season.

I've still not seen anything to suggest O'Brien has any attributes other than pace. Given time he might show us that he is class, but he's not won me over yet.

I could of sworn they had two recognised 1st teamers missing. Which would of been a weakened side but I may have got it wrong.  Wouldn't of been the firsty time and wont be the last.

They made three changes from their league game:

http://www.miltonkeynes.co.uk/sport/MK-Dons-14-Swindon-Town.5544734.jp

Sol Davis came in at left back with Darren Powell rested. Lewis Gobern replaced Jason Puncheon on the right of midfield and Michael Bridges replaced Luke Chadwick. Puncheon and Powell came on after 60, Chadwick 76.

Weakened, but only slightly. It was no reserve team

The trogster was talking about Gills, but you're right, MK did field a strong team despite what Ince said beforehand.
