Title: Sky + help
Post by: chalkies_shorts on Thursday, July 30, 2009, 20:27:45
My Sky+ box seems to be on the blink. Normally you can tape one channel and watch another. Mine now only allows me to watch the channel I'm taping. Even if I'm not taping something the red light shows. It looks like one of the receivers is permanently taping.

Any advice gratefully received.

OK, first I assume you have tried rebooting the box (power off and power on)?

Yup tried turning off the power for a minute and firing it up again. It just goes into automatic tape mode. If I then try and change channels it won't let me. If I try and cheat and go into planner and then chose another channel it throws a wobbler.

I've gone on to Google and there are instructions on there about reformatting which looks like an option althuogh I'll lose what Ive taped.

Try planner rebuild first if you get to the 'full reset' stage.

From memory on the remote press services, 4, 0, 1, select. Make sure you pick planner rebuild.

Proper instruction on planner rebuild here:

Full reset is also listed. Last result that one.

Batch - just done that and things are back to near normal so a big thank you. The onlly thing I've got now is an interesting anomaly that being a statto bugs me. I've got a program that uses 5% taped but I've got 79% left. Now being a numbers man it irkes the fuck out of me. I make a living out of providing data like this.  Any ideas. i appreciate I am being anal.

Other than trying another planner rebuild I can think of no way to get the lost space back than a full reset. But that wipes all recordings.

Actually I lie. I can probably think of a way, but you need a PC, the copy+ software and a spare hard disk, and dismantling the Sky+ box.....

I've got a program that uses 5% taped but I've got 79% left.

Its not mis-reporting as the program is in HD is it?

I've seen that confuse people with the V+ box.

Oh fuck it, No wonder I stick to numbers. I'm obviously a complete twat when it comes to words or life in general . I think there should have been a semi colon after ex lout. After ex lout the bile sets in. I'm shit at this editing thingy as well.
I'm only a Scummer to Scummers.

try a force update.

turn off the box at the wall. Keep TV on.
Press and hold the backup button on the box and keep it pressed whilst turning the plug back on.
Keep holding the backup button until all the lights light up on the front. A message sould appear on screen stating that it's updating.
The update should then take around 10 mins and hopefully sort any problems you have
