Title: iphone rubbishness...
Post by: thedarkprince on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, 20:22:19
Just upgraded my girlfriend's iphone to OS 3.0 and its finished downloading, done the bit which says the phone's about to restart, and then i got the message:

"Could not complete the iTunes Store request.  The store may be busy.  Check your internet connection or try again later."

The phone is now in the stupid pre-registered state where it says to connect to iTunes.

Anyone got any clues???

Could just be the Apple servers acting up at the moment.

Try recovery mode (basically a complete restore of the software on the iPhone):

- turn it off.
- unplug it from the computer.
- press and keep pressing the home button.
- plug it in to the computer (still pressing the home button).
- open iTunes (if not already open).
- it should now go in to recovery mode, then you can let go of the home button.

Apple kit is wonderful.

NOT

It is the most incompatible, unfriendly, buggy consumer good in the world.

My first experience of Apple was 25 years ago and that was a IIe computer. Fucking shite. My most recent was my youngest son's birthday present last week, an iPod Touch. Would the fucking thing work with my wireless router? Oh no. No way. I found an Apple forum thread with 32 pages debating which brands it would and wouldn't support with WPA 1/2/fucking any. I gave up in the end and recommissioned an old WAP as a second wireless network with stone age WEP encryption. It worked immediately.

Complete toss.  Even Windows is better than the crud 'compatibility' that Apple peddle.

Did you have a PIN number on the phone's start up? I had the same issue and had to put my sim in an old phone and remove the pin. Then worked fine.

I couldn't agree more, having to hold a button for 5 seconds and plug in a cable is a ridiculous amount of effort to restore a device. I've had to do it a few times and am absolutely disgusted. So disgusted that I'm planning to go back to Windows and a Sony phone.

How I miss those days of having to re-install Window every so often, the blue screen of death, being constantly on the guard for viruses and being unable to sync my phone with anything.

So much better than having to press a button for 5 seconds.

You miss the point Andy.

Corporatism is the problem and Apple more than any. Politics is a sideshow.

If you had to do that with your car to get it started in the morning or with your cooker or freezer or microwave you would send it back.

You accept mediocrity and fair play to you. That is your decision. I disagree and I am entitled to that opinion too.

Haha, you're joking right? Ever heard of that little company called Microsoft, you know, the one that makes Windows.

They are just as shit Sam.

See the post above about non-acceptance of that sort of problem in cars.

I can't defend Microsoft, if you want a computer system that always works try Linux. Oh, it's not made by a company. Ah................................

Have you ever had a woman who had massive beef curtains?

Quite an experience. I had one who could pull them out down halfway to her knees. Truly memorable.

Apparently there is a security flaw which means an iphone can be hacked with just a text message.
