i'm starting to get really pissed off with our country demanding success from our sporting 'heroes' - yes i'm a town and england football fan along with sometime rugby and more often cricket fan but the pressure that is put on individuals (mostly) to succeed in their trade is making me sick...

these people, be it tennis players, boxers, athletes, motor racingers, golfers etc are out there doing their jobs to the best of their ability against the very best of all their other respective opponents in the world and the people in this country continuously knock them down when they they don't deliver trophies.

like i said i'm a team sports fan and when the whole team goes 'awol' i expect them to make up for it but this individual sport stuff is so much harder, it's individual ability against individual ability and the demands put on them by the media and the public is disgusting 'imo' - tim henman is a prime example - he was a very good tennis player, top ten in the world for a while, but because he never won wimbledon he's seen as a massive flop, there's more examples out there...

my point is why are there so many people out there that seem to measure these peoples' success as their own and then treat them like dirt for not winning something that those 'followers' couldn't get a sniff of in a millin years of practice?

why do people think these people putting their bodies on the line owe them anything and who are these people to object/criticise when it doesn't happen for them - if somebody else is better then there's nothing that could have been done...

this has been bugging me for a very long time, i find it repulsive some of the things that are said about these sportsmen/women sometimes and just wish that people would remember that their own lives have absolutely nothing to do with a chap they watch on the telly trying to win himself a champinship - support them by all means but who gives them the right to complain if that person isn't the best out there?

people need to take more responsibility for their own happiness once in a while instead of hindering someone elses.

Personally I am sick of not producing winners in major sports. The attention and criticism may be OTT, we all know the tabloid press are scum (no offence Judie :) ), but it really isn't the taking part that counts. Its the winning.

Its a bloody rewarding career coming 10th in tennis or golf. The losers get very well compensated for being losing useless scum.

That youngster from Wiltshire got £250,000 for finishing third!!  I wish I could play golf!

Hi Ronnie...Chris Wood is from Bristol,as you say coming third got him 250,000 grand.
More importantly however..the ranking points he gets enters him into more money spinning tournaments..hes already in next years open as he came third,so its a win win win scenario when you do well in a major.

Yes Leefer, I think I heard him say he is already in next year's Masters!  As he comes on up, do you think the Howeller will ever recapture former glories.  He is not too old surely - if Tom Watson can do what he did at 59!!

Howell is looking like if he can stay fit he may start to trouble the leaders again....think that he needed abit of a break from golf mentally as he had probs at home(apparently)
His stats were good for The Open and i believe he can win again.

I'm sure there's more offense in calling him Judie y'know.
