I like the occasional episode of deal or no deal. It's good for the quick mental odds calculations to see if you agree/disagree with the only meaningful choice the contestants get.

Eastenders' selling point when it started out in the 1980s was that it was 'true to life'.  You couldn't move for people telling you, constantly, how 'true to life' Eastenders was.

Eastenders is no longer true to life.  How many streets do you know in London where all the inhabitants are best mates (or worst enemies), have interbred to a worrying degree, work on the same poxy market stall and drink in the same pub?  (Does no-one work in an office, other than Bradders?)

How many times have you been drinking in a London pub and had the wide boy from 3 doors down asking you and everyone else to stop talking so he can announce to all of his uncles, aunts and second cousins that his wife has been shagging his brother?

Big Brother - they seem to be avoiding controversy this year. When it is controversial it gets my attention but the producers get in trouble eg the Shilpa Shetty racism thing. When they play it safe it is boring as fuck.

I thought it was supposed to be about real issues, which is a bit different. Apart from the awful gangster period a few years ago it doesn't always do a terrible job of representing social attitudes and problems that people have. It does have a bit of a repetitive cycle though - gays, abuse, teenage pregnancy, hiv, adultery, gays, domestic violence. And I admit to enjoying some of the outrageous extra stuff too, even if I do dip in and out a bit.

I'd say the general standard of Eastenders is pretty good, and as an exercise in telly it's interesting that they manage to churn out two hours worth of scripts a week all year.

To contribute a bit more, ITV as a channel should be left to die.

Also Songs of Praise. Pointless.

Eastenders is true to life in that they have ugly people on it. It's the highest rated show on TV and the people actually look like normal people rather than models.

Loose Women is an interesting one. There's not a show on telly which makes me more angry, even when they interview Nick Griffin on newsnight (probably because there's normally someone else making him look like a knob). However, the thought of millions of stupid people nodding along to loose women thinking "ooh that is so true" makes me feel rage.

It's like a bad daily mail column (and the average bar on that isn't high) condensed into it's worse bits through chat. The worse thing is that you can sometimes see one of the panellists disagreeing with the tone, but because they're all so polite to each other it's the angry vitriotic bollocks spouting loud one who's view gets put across.

I'm not sure if that means it's good or not.

I agree, I enjoyed series 1, but series 2 has been rather shit and I have given up watching after about the 4th episode.

I'm with Si on this. On the whole S2 is pretty dire. It's what happens when you use all your material from the last 5 years in one series and then only have a year to write for a second.

Also the first series wasn't that good.

Wise choice, it actually gets worse towards the end.
