I take it the Howeller hasn't qualified?

We may well see him at the County Ground a bit this season if his golf career is winding down.

Cant wait...Howeller will do well to make the cut,be nice to see him do well,Surry from Trowbridge qualified to.................Westwood will be there abouts and outside bets could be Stenson,Levet and Steve Stricker whos been top ten in 3 opens and won last week in America.............come on the Howla!

PS Howell qualified on the back of finishing 7th last year.

As Leefer said qualified on the back of last year, but his form this season has been disastrous....can't have made more than two or three cuts.  Golf is a cruel game and there must be a chance that Howell is finished. Still earned a pile of $, but he should now be around his prime.

Leefer, is that Steve Surry?

That is Steve Surry he's on about yeah.

I really hope Surry does well, he's a fucking amazing golfer and this is just the kind of break he needs. I really think he's gonna tear it up, he's been unbelievably consistent now for at least the last 4 years.

Theres money to be made on the E/W bets on this,im going to have a hunt about for Tips later.

Years ago he used to play with a huge slinging hook. Be good if he gets some tv coverage. Shame the BBC are not showing it in HD

Steve's class, I'm sure he'll do well, I've played with him once or twice round the 'well and he pures it.

Post by: leefer on Tuesday, July 14, 2009, 20:09:30
Its a massive chance for him...if he makes the cut hes guaranteed 15 grand...if he makes the top 10 he will get an invite to the next Euro tour event,,top 15 gets you back into next year,it opened up lots of doors for Justin Rose on the back of one good open.
As for Howell as Reg says its been disastrous..i follow him closely and hes had personal problems the last 2 years, got married two weeks ago so hopefully will settle abit now....still a great putter and he will come back IMO...hes a credit to Swindon and does alot of work for charity and always helps in events at his old club Broome when he can.

tiger will win i think.i'l have a few bets e/w.westwood,casey,poulter i reckon.kaymer has won two on the bounce so is on fire too.dont fancy harrington much as his form has been gash.howell has had rotton luck with injuries and will do well to make the cut

Fuck me, Daniel Gaunt's made it in as well. He's a good young 'un. Oh well, i don't really gamble because i don't really understand it, but Lambert and Cox gave me some winnings last season, so i'll have a bet on Gaunt and Surry. :D

Defo gonna be a European Tour winner, I fancy Westy or Kaymer, can't see any of the USPGA guys challenging except maybe Casey.

Dunno what Leefer's on about, Howell's short game has been and always will be shite.

In fact, Howell's putting puts him 197th on current standings...

Only the major tournaments. I find it difficult to keep up to date with Eastenders if I play too many.

I'm supporting ABT (Anyone But Tiger).

All the fuss in the media about Tiger makes me want to turn off, and I hope he is subsidising the BBC coverage, as it's like Tiger Woods TV.

Casey won Wentworth DMR...thats euro tour....as for Howeller having a shit short game..go to specsavers....hes been injured, thats why hes so low in the stats...also Woods says hes the best putter in Europe, and i think he knows abit about golf...good first round today, anyone who makes the cut can win it....

Title: Re: The Open
Post by: Arriba on Thursday, July 16, 2009, 21:01:21
is putting classed as short game though? i thought that was seperate.
howell used to be arguably the best putter on the euro tour, but he aint currently.
played well today

Title: Re: The Open

westwood has a big chance i think.he ruined his round yesterday going in the water on the 16th.if it wasn't for that he would be -4 now.if he can cut out the minor mistakes he will be right up there.

Open Winner-elect Stewart Cink is bravely wearing white trousers today.

My advice to anyone on here who plans to wear similar is to have a cream/skin coloured pair of underwear on underneath, otherwise they show through.

Something else I have enjoyed seeing is the cameramen who are driving about on those two wheeled 'segway' things.

Westwood blew it on the last........on in 2 then 3 putting, when is an English golfer going to grab a major...Fisher, Casey,Poulter,Westwood are all good enough but dont do it at the buisness end.
As a sidenote did you know that Dunlop who is one of Westwoods sponsors havnt paid him a penny for 6 years..........the deal was he gets a million if and when he wins a major.

Title: Re: The Open
Post by: Arriba on Sunday, July 19, 2009, 22:36:42
thre more i think of it, the more i think how shit it ended.westwood could and should have at least tied for a play off.he fucked up and i was happy as i thought watson was home and dry.then he lost to cink, who nobody wanted to win.
shite!

Title: Re: The Open
Post by: leefer on Sunday, July 19, 2009, 22:40:38
Agreed...feel for Westwood but hes beginning to be like an English Monty,,,as for Fisher he should have won the US,and i remember him losing to Mickleson in China when he should of won.

Title: Re: The Open
Post by: Arriba on Sunday, July 19, 2009, 22:44:31
westwood lost it before the 18th leefer.when he went to -4 i thought he was home and dry.would have been quids in tonight if he had.consistant all week but silly minor errors robbed him of the win he should have had

Title: Re: The Open
Post by: leefer on Sunday, July 19, 2009, 22:49:53
True...at 4 under he sould have held on...think this will have a big effect on him,When Woods missed the cut he was favourite really.

Title: Re: The Open
Post by: Arriba on Sunday, July 19, 2009, 22:54:53
woods was utter shite wasn't he?
his shiteness has opended it wide open now.the open certainly finds golfers out.although i am a bit miffed cink won,you have to take your hat off to the bloke

Title: Re: The Open

A good honest pro...without the pressures...they left the door open and he sneaked the win...next year he will have the pressure.
