It would look awful if they all left, players would look at us and think there must be something wrong - which of course there is, but we don't want them to know that. Title: rhys evans Post by: DV on Friday, May 27, 2005, 15:21:00 Only because he is the one out of contract player who hasnt been linked with anyone....
Title: rhys evans Post by: BigStan on Friday, May 27, 2005, 15:59:14 Quote from: "DV85" Only because he is the one out of contract player who hasnt been linked with anyone.... Evans' ego must have taken quite a bashing these last few weeks. As anybody that has ever read his column will know he does like to make everybody aware that he went to the FA School at Lilleshall and that he's been just about everywhere playing for the U21s. Unfortunately whilst he and his agent have an extremely high opinion of his abilities this opinion clearly isn't shared by anybody else in football. Having gone in all guns blazing in the contract negotiations looking for a long term contract on much more money he's now having to face up to the fact that since nobody else wants him he's effectively going to have to live with what Swindon offer him. It'll all be dressed up in the media as negotiating a mutually acceptable deal but everybody will know that he's staying because no other club was willing to give him an escape route. Title: rhys evans Post by: reeves4england on Friday, May 27, 2005, 16:03:19 Personally i'm glad he's staying.
I think if he has some real competition he could return to his form of the 03/04 season and do well Title: rhys evans Post by: Johno on Friday, May 27, 2005, 22:43:27 me too. Rhys is a good keeper, has clangers, but every keeper does so...and looks like he'll be cheaper too so, its good! :P
Title: rhys evans Post by: DH on Saturday, May 28, 2005, 22:28:34 I'm happy for him to stay although he's about average at this level - for the moment, he's still got a lot of years ahead so could yet achieve his ambitions - which I hope he does.
Title: rhys evans Post by: Batch on Monday, June 6, 2005, 09:43:28 Still looks like a maybe yes, but not a done deal
www.thisisstfc.co.uk Quote ANDY King returns to work to begin his rebuilding job today but he could yet be looking for a new first-choice goalkeeper. Rhys Evans was widely expected to finalise a new deal in the next 24 hours but negotiations continue to stall as club and player try to agree terms. The Evening Advertiser also understands a third party is interested in securing the services of the 23-year-old, though the former England under 21 keeper is hopeful his County Ground tenure will be extended before the weekend. “If I decide to stay it’s going to be tied up this week,” confirmed Evans. “There will be another discussion between my agent and Sandy Gray (Town’s chief executive). “There have been a few troubles in terms of them seeing each other but there were last-minute discussions on Friday. “There are some doubts over the deal we’re still not meeting on the same level but hopefully that will be put to bed.” King returns from his working holiday in Spain needing to find replacements for Brian Howard, Matt Heywood and Grant Smith, who all moved on to pastures new last week. Evans, Sammy Igoe and David Duke have yet to agree new contracts but King already has his sights on some new faces. Former Manchester United youngster Paul Tierney and ex-Bolton starlet Ricky Shakes are believed to be top of King’s wanted list. Title: rhys evans Post by: Asher on Monday, June 6, 2005, 09:51:09 Evans is just holding out for a few more pennies each week - He WILL sign
Title: rhys evans Post by: Simon Pieman on Monday, June 6, 2005, 10:11:41 When Evans had to fight for his place he seemed to perform a lot better. That's one of the issues with our squad, the lack of competition. I think last season we were all in general agreement that the starting XI underperformed. With a bit of competition I think we would have been right up there. It's a shame our finances dictate really, but this is the simple fact of football now.
Title: rhys evans Post by: McLovin on Monday, June 6, 2005, 10:34:52 I would like to see Mildy back.
Title: rhys evans Post by: bongofury on Monday, June 6, 2005, 12:19:30 Evans definitely needs a good keeper in the wings to keep him on his toes, last season was proof of that.
Title: rhys evans Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Monday, June 6, 2005, 12:35:32 we need rhys next season who else is there? we would be stuck with matty bullman as first choice otherwise

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v308/legodcuervo/franky.jpg "OOH AH, TALIA!" he could even help out the groundsman by mowing the pitch! on second thoughts.... Title: rhys evans Post by: Kinky Tom on Monday, June 6, 2005, 13:49:10 Talia was dog turd, I can't belive he still makes a living out of football.
Title: rhys evans Post by: le god cuervo on Monday, June 6, 2005, 14:24:29 talia was pants, but still better than nicky "oh shit he's dropped it!" hammond
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v308/legodcuervo/hammondflap.jpg Title: rhys evans Post by: Kinky Tom on Monday, June 6, 2005, 14:28:48 But Nicky Hammond played a blinder in our only away win of the Prem season against QPR. For that he will always be a legend.
Title: rhys evans Post by: Boeta on Monday, June 6, 2005, 14:37:18 Talia was alright, Hammond was the worst keeper I've ever seen
Title: rhys evans Post by: grayx on Monday, June 6, 2005, 14:47:40 Worse than Paul Heald or Jon Sheffield ???
Title: rhys evans Post by: Sam Eddolls on Monday, June 6, 2005, 14:49:59 hammond is a legend, that shirt he is wearing is mine, gave it to me for my 9th birthday, legend, have to say that he is one of the poorer goalkeepers we have, never mind
Title: rhys evans Post by: le god cuervo on Monday, June 6, 2005, 14:50:17 i remember we had a bit of a keeper crisis that premier league season. digby & hammond injured & we had stuart kerr, paul heald & jon sheffield on loan. none were really that good which is probably why we let in 100 goals! maybe if digby had stayed fit we might have done slightly better.
hopefully nothing like that will happen this season! Title: rhys evans Post by: Kinky Tom on Monday, June 6, 2005, 14:56:20 Jon Sheffield, played 1, goals against 5. (I think)
Class. Title: rhys evans Post by: grayx on Monday, June 6, 2005, 14:59:20 Wasn't that our 5-0 stuffing at Villa Park ?
Title: rhys evans Post by: McLovin on Monday, June 6, 2005, 14:59:58 Against Villa, I remember that!
Title: rhys evans Post by: Kinky Tom on Monday, June 6, 2005, 15:02:11 Yep, a few seasons after he played against us, so we all chanted 5-0 at him. He took it in the nature it was intended (lighthearted), and for that I have a fair amount of respect for the fella.
Title: rhys evans Post by: Johno on Monday, June 6, 2005, 19:30:56 i reckon we should just get Given back? :soapy tit wank:
Title: rhys evans Post by: STFC Village on Tuesday, June 7, 2005, 05:25:14 Quote from: "Johno" i reckon we should just get Given back? :soapy tit wank: If only Johno, if only :D On a more serious note, if Evans does sign, it will be unlikely that he'll have much competition next season. Matty Bulman will probably be promoted to no.2, while the wages we were payin' Book-end will probably be used to bulk up the squad in other areas. However, i fear this will be detrimental to Rhys development, as King would be unlikely to drop Evans for an inexperienced keeper, even if Evans was having a mare, which has happened this season past..... All in all, Rhys is a good keeper, with room for improvement, but he needs some form of competition next season Title: rhys evans Post by: RobertT on Tuesday, June 7, 2005, 10:46:17 Quote from: "Johno" i reckon we should just get Given back? :soapy tit wank: I remember seeing his first game for us against Hull away, and as normal, some fans in front of me were effing and blinding about how useless he was and that he'd never make a good keeper being so small!! We also had Flowers on loan a few years back in the distant mist's of time. Title: rhys evans Post by: Kinky Tom on Tuesday, June 7, 2005, 10:53:26 Don't think Flowers actually played though did he?

Given was fecking ace Blackburns 3rd choice at the time, if only their 4th choice who we actually bought was half as good Given must have been very young when he came to us....17/18  Title: rhys evans Post by: Tails on Tuesday, June 7, 2005, 22:14:57 I can't believe no one has mentioned Talia playing an absolute blinder at Charlton away in 99/00. The Whites are in the market for a new goalkeeper to act as cover to Neil Sullivan and the club were tracking Evans' situation with the Robins. Leeds are likely to turn their attention to Ian Bennett but it is believed that Sheffield United are also interested in the Birmingham goalkeeper. Call 0904 064 1003 for full details.
