Going to be a big season for him season.Didn't really perform as we thought he would after impressing so much at the begining of the season.

His work rate towards the end of the season was very good though and he improved alot under wilson, just get the impression if he has a bad season then he could end up just knocking around club to club for a while.

I reckon he's a confidence player, & needs the encouragement & praise from the manager(much the same as Chritian Roberts did) He didn't get that from MM.

With a better defence and (hopefully) a better CM pairing he should be able to play his own game a bit more - bit like Lee Holmes could do when we had him.

I thought he was excellent as soon as we signed Kanu. He's the best player we have and one that on his day would be fit to grace the Premier league. If he was consistent, he wouldn't be here!

Agree about Kanu Tails, seemed he was being allowed tp get on and play without being doubled up on.

I thought that was one of the things that went unnoticed by many, as when HRK came in teams couldn't double up on both wingers, one or both would have space, if we could get an attack minded CM with those two, we would hardly need to worry about who was upfront as we would be pulling defences all over the place.

Big season for him...i was prefering Edwards towards the seasons end..reckon Edwards could suprise a few teams next year if getting a place.

talented yes.but a luxury player.if we are going at teams then he's a valuable asset.when we are struggling, then he's a waste of a player on the park.
alot depends on the players around him too.in a good side he'd thrive i reckon.but will he have players of quality around him?

I like the look of Marshall, hes eager and certainly not a lot worse than Macca was towards the end of last season.

If he can provide delivery he could be a little star.

i'll have to beg to differ over marshall.imo he's a headless chicken who isn't good enough for us

Differing opinions is what makes football what it is Arriba :) if we all thought the same then Carlton Palmer or Geoff Thomas would never have got a game for England let alone in the top division!

Can't believe people are arguing Marshall is better than Macca. Or are you just saying he has the potential to be better?

Not arguing...Maccas had plenty of chances..he cant score for toffee,and his only threat is his crossing,hence why teams double up on him to stop his crosses coming in...Marshall has shown that he canbeat players and for me if his crossing starts to match Maccas hes going to be a very good player....its also highly embarrasing watch a player who does stepovers but dosnt deliver enough....away from home he should be our trump card,i hope he is..but i got my doubts.

Macca is similar to a lot of league one wingers. He plays well one week and poorly the next and is inconsistant. On his day he's very good though. Worth having in the team. If he's not performing then stick him on the bench.

Leefer - yes Macca isn't a goalscorer but I he can beat players. That much is proven. Even when theres 2 players on him he quite often comes away with  the ball and puts in the cross.

Yes he has been inconsistent and that is his main fault but to suggest Marshall can beat players and Macca can't is bollocks. Or did I get the wrong end of the stick with what you were saying?

Also, how many goals has Marshall scored?

I can't see Macnamee being first choice winger this season, I dont think DW rates him as highly as most Town fans do.

Hes OK but the point I was saying about Marshall is that he has potential, if he realises that with us or his attitude doesn't improve (allegedly) then he will be gone.

I think his pace will unsettle a lot of defences though if given a few games to get his confidence up, I have seen him in 4 reserve games (yes I know they are reserves) but hes looked lively and can use both feet. I still would like him to come good, but then I hope Malpas would come good too and was wrong there!

I agree with arriba's view of him. If we had a striker that camped himself on the 6 yard line then I think Macca would set up a lot more goals and therefore look more effective.

Heaven forbid we sit a huge lump on the edge of the box and lump balls forward to him to win in the box ala Cambridge Utd and Dion Dublin in the early 90's.

Two in 62 is a piss poor return for an attacking player like Macca...thats his record here...Marshall has only played 6 full matches....Mcmanee has this season to prove himself or he could end up non lge very soon...i dont rate him....and his floaty corners are shit too....that said if his potential is finally found i could have Macca rammed down my big mouth...now thats not a thaught to have just before eating my tea.

No, not that style. The same style we're playing really, but with more end product. We do get the ball in the box, but 9 times out of 10 it goes to nobody. Paynter's scored a couple from crosses, but if you look at another decent League One striker like Lambert, then we don't score enough goals from crosses. We need a real 'poacher' (Tony Thorpe, anyone ::)) to nab a few goals from crosses.

I get your point Sam we do need someone like Parkin and Mooney up front to capitalise on crosses into the box and get their heads/feet onto them, I just really don't want us to be a long ball team, even if it creates moderate success.

I just had visions after your last comment on crossing from Macca of us hoofing the ball into the box for it to be won by a cart horse :)

I think Macca's good cross:poor cross ratio, and good game:bad game ratio are poor.

I think this is why Barry Corr's injuries were my biggest disappointment of last year, because he was the 'big' striker in the box that could head in McNamee's crosses, he was also capable of playing the poacher and scuffing the ball in from the six yard line.....
