Title: U.S.A
Post by: Spencer_White on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, 22:49:26
It has been largely ignored by the UK media. But to be fair the Confederations cup has got a good line up. Better than all the usual friendly international bollocks.

Anyway, well done USA. Needed a 6 goal swing to get in the semi final. They beat Egypt 3-0 and Italy lost to Brazil, 3-0. Remarkable turnaround.

Heaven forbid the European media say anything nice about football in the U.S.A.

That's just Italy for you. Get them in the Wc and they will scrape through to the late stages as per usual

Is American soccer prodigy Freddy Adu playing?

Even though I haven't seen any of it, I am really enjoying the confederations cup. :)

I watched a bit of USA v's Brazil the other day.

I hate to admit it but despite losing they looked quite organised as a team, it was just individual skill that was letting them down. They where playing Brazil after all.

I cheered on the US. It's always sweet for an underdog to win. I always enjoy seeing Football super powers lose. As long as they're not English.

I have nothing against the US football team, even if they do call it soccer. It's the American attitude towards spectator sports that annoys me, but that's no reason to wish their team to lose. Fair play to them for getting this far

The U.S. have done well in recent world cups and Germany cheated them with a defo handball in one of the matches i watched.

They dont seem to qualify for the European championships though and for that reason they will never progress..

I actually did a double take then before it dawned on me that you must be kidding.

Italy have such an old side.

The average age must have been about 35!!

Its like the Cup Winners Cup of international football.

Been quite enjoying it.

The US look to have a bit of 'spunk' in them at the moment. Hard working and motivated side.

The American's will do that all day long - they may not have the most skillful players but they can beat better opponants by exhausting them.

Michael Bradley was a harshly sent off. Altidore is quality shame he does not get in the Villarreal side

To be fair, Villlarreal also have Guiseppe Rossi and Nihat Kahcevi, who aren't half bad themselves; they spent $10m on Altidore though, so I expect he'll get a lot more games next season; his first season was a bit hampered by injury and being slow to settle in Spain.

Basing this on the many games I've seen of him in a U.S. shirt I'd say that currently Altidore isn't good enough for La Liga.

he got sent out on loan to Xerex i think. he hardly got a game there as well.

...because he's not good enough (yet) ;)

He's still a teenager. I think he left New York a little bit too eary but he should prove far more valuable to the US of A than Freddy Adu has thus far.

Benfica. Spent a bit of time at Monaco. He's doing very little and won't be long before he's back in the MLS (probably via Portsmouth or someone like that)

I recall Alex Ferguson inviting him to train with Manchester United after years of being linked to them. After said invite he never got linked to them again :)

Freddy came on as sub for USA at Wenbley in the recent friendly - did nothing but neither did USA.

I cannot stand Jonathan Pearce, he's more tolerable since the BBC made him curb his enthusiasm (his Channel 5 commentary was awful).

Fucking septics

Can we turn this into a septic bashing thread, I'll start.

I knew this one septic out here who would tell all and sundry aboutb how the mighty U S of A alwyays had the biggest and the best. Well he was on ab0out once when the subject of buildibngs and stuff came out.

Gaudi was mentioned, as was the Angkor Wat, the louvre.... basically all sorts of different stuff and then this septic started g0oing on about the Eiffel tower (He'd been there).

So this stupid septic comes out with: "Well, it'; a mighty fine tower tey have. But they'll never match anything like the Statue of libert"y.

Teh dumb cunt.
