Title: 2+2=5
Post by: wiggy on Friday, June 12, 2009, 07:48:52
Shaun Taylor is leaving his position within the Elite Development Centre to take up a new position within football.

Could he be coming here as a specialist defence coach? Would be great if he did.

More likely though he is being lined up by Exeter for a role.

Was he a coach at Bristol City when Wilson was there?

Yes, he was. Could be something in this. I'm not sure he has any links with Tisdale mind...

Bring it on.

I did hear a rumour ages ago about Taylor returning as a coach by a usually reliable source but never heard any more so dismissed it as something he got wrong.....maybe he didn't and he can go back to being reliable again  - we will see

I'd like Taylor back as as in a roundabout way it would restore the Swindon link back into the coaching staff.

Taylor was one of a dying breed of defenders that was willing to really put their head in where it hurt, when was the last time we saw a player prepared to do this ?

He's Devon based and played only a few games less for Exeter than he did with us. He's very highly regarded by their lot because he captained them to promotion before Hoddle snapped him up. Also, he could easily just get a job where he has no links.

I'd love to see him return, as mentioned he was involved in the youths at Bristol City under Danny Wilson.

I guess Taylor can become the new reserve team manager?

I wondered if his role at Exeter might be as replacement for Tisdale if he moves up the ladder.

As we haven't heard anything about Shirtlif (who some posters have said would shore up our defence) it just got me thinking when we got the letter from elite about him leaving that we could really do with a coach like him.

What makes Taylor a good coach then? He was solid for us i loved the bloke but can only remember him having 1 job as a coach for a league club(probably wrong)

Fair point. It would be a bit of a Malpas style gamble but without him actually being manager.

He has got all his badges and a good reputation, but our defence certainly needs someone to get them into shape as a unit.

I agree with that about the defence. Problem is with getting in ex players is that its actually only the fans that have the link i am fairly certain the players wouldnt try or listen more just because he played for us.

He's working at Exeter City as assistant to Kwame Ampadu (I think).

Yeah hes assistant chief executive of the PFA I think, and hes related somewhere along the line to Giles Barnes of Derby.

I loved him as a player and was gutted when he left us for Bournemuff.

Pretty sure it's his son, BB was a blinding player, well for a season.
