Title: Re: Brighton in minted shock Post by: ron dodgers on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, 00:27:18 phew - sounds like they're sorted
Title: Re: Brighton in minted shock Post by: jonny72 on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, 00:31:29 phew - sounds like they're sorted Yeah, just like Southampton were when they sorted out the financing for their new stadium. Title: Re: Brighton in minted shock Post by: oxford_fan on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, 15:01:14 Hmm. Isn't an investment, as the headline calls it, something which won't be withdrawn. A £93m loan, debt free or otherwise, should still be treated with caution as jonny says.
Title: Re: Brighton in minted shock Post by: oxford_fan on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, 15:06:20 And embarking upon a £93m stadium building project at the moment seems a little carefree.
Still, probably better than renting a £15m 3 sided ground from some cunt. Title: Re: Brighton in minted shock Post by: suttonred on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, 15:10:19 Jeez is it that much? Still you seem to be buying up every single half decent conference player at the mo, so you must have something down the back of the sofa!
Title: Re: Brighton in minted shock Post by: Bob's Orange on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, 15:28:54 Hmm. Isn't an investment, as the headline calls it, something which won't be withdrawn. A £93m loan, debt free or otherwise, should still be treated with caution as jonny says. And also from a Professional Poker player! Title: Re: Brighton in minted shock Post by: oxford_fan on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, 15:35:23 Jeez is it that much? Still you seem to be buying up every single half decent conference player at the mo, so you must have something down the back of the sofa! Is what that much? The new chairman has done the business and secured investment (thats the true meaning of "investment" - non-repayable lump sums) for transfer funds. I think he's been schmoozing with the rich folk in the boxes and pursuaded them to stump up some free cash. We've offloaded about 6/7 players who signed on very favourable terms, ridiculous sums of money, so have plenty of budget freed up which can go towards wages. Title: Re: Brighton in minted shock Post by: Spencer_White on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, 17:48:46 Thats going to take quite a few years to pay off.
Maybe even a decade or two. But to be fair, they do need it more than anyone. Title: Re: Brighton in minted shock Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, 18:23:03 The fans down here are more deluded than us lot, they are now talking about premiership and being the biggest team in the south
Title: Re: Brighton in minted shock Post by: axs on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, 18:32:24 The fans down here are more deluded than us lot, they are now talking about premiership and being the biggest team in the south Presumably London is North then? So bigger than gillingham, southampton, plymouth and portsmouth? I think one of those is achievable. Title: Re: Brighton in minted shock Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, 18:39:32 What league are Gillingham in?
Title: Re: Brighton in minted shock Post by: axs on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, 18:46:39 I'll answer that on saturday evening.

Sorry the 15m Title: Re: Brighton in minted shock Post by: jonny72 on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, 19:08:37 Having read up on it some more, why is it being referred to Tony Bloom providing a loan or financing?
What Tony Bloom is actually doing is pissing away £93m. He will never see that money again. Plus the capacity is only going to be 22k, is that all you get for £93m nowadays? Title: Re: Brighton in minted shock Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, 19:22:16 The stadium at falmer was only given the go ahead on very certain specific recommendations. Its situated on the sussex downs in a national trust park, part of the stadium is going to be dug into the hillside and have a grass camoflauged roof. The architects intial drawings look pretty amazing to be fair.
Title: Re: Brighton in minted shock Post by: flammableBen on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, 19:25:09 There should be a stadium planning law which imposes random restrictions on planning permission for stadiums; might force clubs to use a bit more imagination.

Title: Re: Brighton in minted shock Post by: jonny72 on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, 11:42:56 http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/may/19/brighton-cash-injection-tony-bloom thats the story in a nutshell Quote of the day.... Quote Brighton, which was once described by Keith Waterhouse as "a town that looks like it's helping police with their inquiries" Title: Re: Brighton in minted shock Post by: Spencer_White on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, 11:44:04 Will they have sheep grazing on the roof?
That should be written into the planning permission. Title: Re: Brighton in minted shock Post by: oxford_fan on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, 15:35:03 Sorry the 15m I think £15m is the combined cost of the land and construction work. The actual and current value of the stadium is another issue altogether, though you can bet that Kassam is wanting to recoup all of his original investment if any deal is to be done. It's a tricky one, hence the 1/2 year timescale for a deal to be thrashed out. £15m for a 12,000 doesn't seem too bad when Brighton are shelling out £93m for a 22,000. Title: Re: Brighton in minted shock Post by: donkey on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, 17:37:10 I think £15m is the combined cost of the land and construction work. That's like some kind of wierd inverse economies of scale....diseconomies of scale or something. The actual and current value of the stadium is another issue altogether, though you can bet that Kassam is wanting to recoup all of his original investment if any deal is to be done. Title: Re: Brighton in minted shock Post by: jonny72 on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, 18:01:27 The Brighton build costs are £60m, rest are fees / land purchase / consultants etc.
Still a shit load of money for a shit capacity stadium. Title: Re: Brighton in minted shock Post by: Bogus Dave on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, 18:07:44 The modern football stadium isnt about the capacity. Its about the corporate facilites. Brigthons will be very well if i recall correctly
