Title: Best and worst game of the season
Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Monday, May 11, 2009, 20:01:49
I will get the ball rolling, strangely both happened at the same ground, no not the county ground but withdean. JPT was a real fucking low point, god awful game, truely depressing.

Made up for it though by finally winning there 2-3, celebrations were mentally fun.

Worst I would probably agree with you, that was a pretty shit night, I think that's probably because I couldn't go to Histon though.

Best is a toughie, Brighton away, noton away, leicester away, rovers home, all up there.

Best: Northampton Away....no shadow of a doubt.

Worst: Hartlepool Home...awful game of football and they get a penalty that never should have been in stoppage time.

I only went to 4ish games in the end,all of which were dull enough for me not to remember a single thing about them. Ive decided to try and pick it up a bit next season again though and im going to the Townend.I think perhaps the move the DRS a few years ago has worn away my enthusiasm for it all.Although its probably just closed season rose tinted spectacles and when it comes down to the crunch I still probably wont bother...

Best Brighton, Leicester or Peterborough away, for different reasons, but i'll go Brighton, worst Histon, by a country mile.

Worst: Hartlepool at home, Brighton at home, Yeovil away.
Best: Leicester at home (last 10 mins), Peterborough away (good atmosphere....well, from the Town fans anyway).

For the first season since I was six I cannot join this one - I simply haven't seen enough games this year, due to personal circumstances.  It has felt very strange - between 1994 and May 2008 I only missed 3 competitive matches at the CG.  This season I saw 5.  I cannot convey the odd feeling I get when we are at home and I'm not there.

Best - Rovers - Safety achieved and immeadiately on to the task of forgetting this god forsaken season.

Worst - Hatlepool home. I started to think the season was unsaveable

Best (in a footballing sense) was Leicester away. The other best (in a good day out sense) was Peterborough.

Worst is a toss up between Brighton away in the JPT or Histon in the cup.

Best - Northampton away (Peterborough and Leicester close)

My worst game was Histon away, which summed up Malpas' reign in that it was shit and frustrating .

Best I would probably say Rovers at home which was more of a relief if anything.

The best I felt this season was after the Tranmere game., That was the one stage this season I thought we were any good.

Franchise away was good, Northampton was also good. Millwall was good for 89 minutes.

For the worst – I didn't go to Histon – I'd say Hartlepoo home, too. Losing to Yeovil was fairly depressing.

Best - Hereford at home - a game we normally slip up in and we gave them a good rodgering. Rovers for the pure relief at being able to consign this season to the bin.
Worst - Leeds at home. They were shit - doen to 10 men early on and we gave them victory on a plate. For pure footballing reasons then Hartlepool at hiome. Neither team deserved a point.

Worst - Brighton JPT....one of the worst ever..not just this season. Hartlepool home.

Best - Leicester and MK Dongs....Northampton was a good night too!

Best
Home, Rovers (just because it meant we were safe)
Away, Northampton (It had everything Great Goals, Drama & we hung on to win)

Worst
Home, Brighton (Unfortunately there are a lot to chose from, but this one was worse because we got thumped by a really shit team)
Away, Histon (without doubt the lowest point of any season since we lost to the Scum on TV)

I didn't go to many games, however.

Best - Leicester at home

Worst - Leeds, Huddersfield, Brighton, Colchester and Yeovil at home were all as bad as each other

Leeds at home was totally humiliating. It was also the real turning point in the season. Or maybe the point of realisation. Whatever it was, it was just rubbish.

Didnt go to many away games this year, but if I had to choose -

Best - Tranmere (H), Southend (H), Rovers (H) - shite game but had a good atmos and the right result!

Worst - Brighton (H) Hartlepool (H) Leeds (H)

Worst: I actually don't know, although there where several games that I was listening to that were so boring that I forgot that we are even playing.

Best: Leicester away. STFC world was down and so I had to listen to radio Leicester. From the start their commentators where impressed with the way that we where shaping up to get at them, playing wide the our full backs forward and all that. It was also a game that enforced my faith in Wilson, and it was great to hear Tim Flowers bigging up our support, not just on the day but our support over the years in general.

Some good away days last season: Brighton, Northampton, Leicester and Carlisle (Just for our injury equaliser when we went absolutely fucking mental)

Most of the away games were poor, although I still enjoyed them more than being at home.

Must be the company you keep. That said, I'm hard pressed to disagree with you - of the games you listed Northampton was the only one I missed. I might add Aldershot though, really liked their ground. Ooh and Scunny, Cox's hattrick  8)

Brighton away in the JPT was probably the worst, given the circumstances. I skipped uni, got abandoned in Brighton with some Mexican I'd just met, went to the worst stadium in the world and watched a spineless performance from a bunch of wankers managed by an incompetent.

Worst....take your pic....Brighton H, Yeovil H, Yeovil A, Hartlepool H all terrible games and poor performances against teams we should and could have easily beaten.

Best....Tranmere H (for the optimism after a good 1st game of the season win against a good team)
Rovers H (for being the game that made us safe and the relief it gave us all)
Northampton A (just a great result when the going got tough)

I didn't do many games but worst for me was Yeovil at home. Probably up there as one the worst town performances I have ever witnessed. And i've seen some shit in my time, believe.

Best was Scunny at home, but that's probably because I did the full corperate that game so my judgement is a little clouded.

Whatever way you look at it, this season has been total and utter garbage. Rovers at home restored a bit of faith that we could still generate some sort of atmosphere at the CG though.

JFW I think you might be talking about Hartlepool at home. I slipped in a puddle before that game I think.

Yes - that sounds right - the car park was like a river - I got soaked and was deeply upset that only the Arkells stand got given plastic ponchos - didnt we loose as well?? probably? Im not very good at remembering specific games - they all blur into one eventually

It was 0-0 until the last few minutes when a Hartlepool player fell over on the area and they got the most ridiculous penalty ever and won a game neither team really deserved to win. A Hartlepool player even said afterwards if that penalty had been against them he would have gone mental.

After that I was ready to take any dodgy decision that went our way.

Best: Either Leicester Away or Carlisle Away (just the injury time winner)
Worst: Brighton Away JPT or Histon Away (showed just how incompatant Malpas Was)

Is this post a medleeeeee of mistakes!?

I only went to two games last season and they were both truly appaling - Hartlepool and Brighton at home, my son came with me to Brighton and I don't think i will ever be able to persuade him to go again, he wanted to leave at half time, he keeps looking at me with pity in his eyes "swindon are rubbish dad" I try to tell him that his family have supported this club for generations, some relatives even played for the side...it all falls on deaf ears, it's enough to make a grown man cry......

Didn't miss a home game.  So for the best, Tranny and Scunny comeing a close second.  I managed 1 game away (Cheltenham) so for the worst games , all the rest.  An abysmal season. so why did I just buy a three year season ticket?  Am I glad thatcher losed all the nut houses and put us into the community.  Dribble dribble

You'll have to pick carefully next season. Take him to a game with lots of away fans, so if the worst comes to the worst he can just watch the away fans.

Fear there are thousands of kids who feel the same way as yours after last season.
