see you there in the morgen Title: Re: Somerfield Gorse Hill Post by: Samdy Gray on Friday, May 8, 2009, 20:03:40 I only found out because I was in Tesco about to get some booze when this black geezer walks up to me and says "You like this beer? [pointing at Blackthorn]" I reply positively and he produces a receipt from his pocket showing a load of Somerfield purchases for just £1.

Title: Re: Somerfield Gorse Hill Post by: Samdy Gray on Friday, May 8, 2009, 20:07:15 Was chattin to a bloke in there and he was saying that there seems to be plenty of stock. As soon as the shelves empty they bring out more stuff and fill 'em up.
Title: Re: Somerfield Gorse Hill Post by: jonny72 on Friday, May 8, 2009, 20:20:40 I used to work at the Somerfield HQ many years ago.
One day a driver left one of the depots with an articulated lorry / truck filled to the brim with booze and fags to deliver to stores. They never heard from him again, probably now living in the south of France or something. Title: Re: Somerfield Gorse Hill Post by: Berniman on Friday, May 8, 2009, 23:42:21 Somerfield the next major name to go under anyone?
Title: Re: Somerfield Gorse Hill Post by: jonny72 on Saturday, May 9, 2009, 00:05:51 Somerfield the next major name to go under anyone? Somerfield was taken over by the Co-Op a couple of months ago and they're re-branding all the stores. Though as there is a Co-Op within a hundred yards of the Somerfield in Gorse Hill I'm guessing they're shutting it instead. Title: Re: Somerfield Gorse Hill Post by: flammableBen on Saturday, May 9, 2009, 00:11:23 Which is all good because the co-op is fucking ace. The big one in old town is my favourite shop.

Title: Re: Somerfield Gorse Hill Post by: nevillew on Saturday, May 9, 2009, 10:02:08 Morrisons took over Safeway, Leefer.
Title: Re: Somerfield Gorse Hill Post by: Arriba on Saturday, May 9, 2009, 10:11:52 the co-op bought somerfield but because they already have a shop up the road they sold to morrisons.this has happend in numerous locations.

Title: Re: Somerfield Gorse Hill Post by: Peter Venkman on Saturday, May 9, 2009, 11:21:03 The Somerfield here in Chard has been sold off and is being taken over by Sainsburys.
Not too many Somerfields about these days. Not too many Somerfields about these days. Same in Chippy. Hopefully they'll wield the axe and get rid of some of thick cunts that work in there Title: Re: Somerfield Gorse Hill Post by: oxford_fan on Saturday, May 9, 2009, 12:29:07 A Waitrose has replaced Somerfield near where I work. Title: Re: Somerfield Gorse Hill Post by: Fred Elliot on Saturday, May 9, 2009, 15:13:33 £1.00 for 4 cans
fucking stupid I tell thee Title: Re: Somerfield Gorse Hill Post by: ronnie21 on Sunday, May 10, 2009, 10:24:11 the co-op bought somerfield but because they already have a shop up the road they sold to morrisons.this has happend in numerous locations. Rumours from within the shop that Morrisons are having second thoughts about the Gorse Hill store. Too small to be viable apparently.Title: Re: Somerfield Gorse Hill Post by: strooood on Sunday, May 10, 2009, 11:44:24 Which is all good because the co-op is fucking ace. The big one in old town is my favourite shop. Certainly one of the finest shops in the land. There's just something very serene about it - you never see anyone who has any kind of responsibility set foot in there. I think if there was a nuclear war going on outside, the co-op wouldn't change at all. Title: Re: Somerfield Gorse Hill Post by: Doore on Sunday, May 10, 2009, 22:39:53 Certainly one of the finest shops in the land. There's just something very serene about it - you never see anyone who has any kind of responsibility set foot in there. I think if there was a nuclear war going on outside, the co-op wouldn't change at all. I moved away from old town in 2002, coming back for games and a few friendly visits focused around the pub. I was back for a game last year and was a bit early so I popped up the co-op for a wander and to buy a paper (my life, as you can tell, is full of excitement). The place had not changed one bit in six years - I still new where to find a copy of the independent, a bag of crisps and some sausages for that evening's dinner. It was awesome. I also, many years back, managed to get twenty pounds cashback from the co-op and throw the note straight in to the bin outside. Didn't notice until four hours in the pub had elapsed and I had run out of money. Hence the amusing scene of drunk Doore rummaging through the bins outside the co-op at 10pm. Found the twenty and, in the most generous act of my life, bought a round of drinks with it. fB might (or might not!) remember that one. Title: Re: Somerfield Gorse Hill Post by: Ironside on Sunday, May 10, 2009, 22:44:52 Co-Op wher I live consists of a larger than average alcohol section mixed in with a larger than average "fresh" bread section. It's interesting but it works. The intermediate two sections allow you to buy all your other daily's, including Danidh Blue cheese. Curious....
