Wigan have announced that they will sell an adult season ticket for £250....and no seat in the stadium will cost more than £295 - even the best seats.

I know its different fan base, requirements, financial situation etc....
But still fucking annoying that a Premiership season ticket is cheaper than our League One effort.

They have always struggled to attract fans though, due to location and the towns rugby league heritage, and even if £150 wouldn't sell out. Certainly when they were in the lower 2 divs they barely averaged 3000 most of the time.

I'd imagine the amount of money "lost" in this venture is a mere drop in the ocean compared to other income. In other words they can afford it!

Thats great value even if you dont support Wigan to see every prem team play for that is well worth it.

That's the idea me thinks. They need to fill that stadium somehow.

If people don't like the value in the town end they can always go to the other stands

If by some miracle we were to win the league next year, I'd argue that it was great value for money

Income from the TV deals alone is £30 million a year minimum in the Premier League, top clubs get up to £45 million. So they can afford it, but its good to see them doing it - hopefully some of the others will.

Interesting comments, Wigan spend more on wages than they get in revenue and have done for some time.

I imagine they turn a fair profit on their scouting network though, £14m profit in 12 months on Palacios, something similar in the summer on Valencia no doubt.

Well this time last year they were in the region of £15m debt (off the top of my head). Palacios was a good deal, what did they sell him for £12m? I think they've overspent every year since being in the Premiership, probably before that too.

Hmmm, actually I may be a year behind thinking about it.

I've just realised they spent 5.3 million on Koumas, scratch what I said earlier about doing well on transfers.

Didn't they also make a profit on Chimbonda a couple of years ago, or was that another team ?

It would be worth spending £250 on a season ticket just to see the big games.  You would pay £40 a game to see the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manu at most stadiums.

You'd probably also pay that £40 in fuel to get to Wigan for each game...

While it's fashionable to 'hate' Man U or Chelsea, I'll reserve my ire for Wigan.  Rarely has there been a more criminal waste of a Premier League place.  They bought their way there and now have to offer cut-price inducements to get an indifferent fan base through the turnstiles.

I remember our home game against them the season they won the League 1 title.  200 or 300 of them parked up in the corner of the North Stand...and barely a whisper from them all game.  I still haven't quite worked out why they exist.  Pointless football club.
