Title: McMahon Classic
Post by: Arch Stanton on Thursday, April 30, 2009, 22:47:19
I'm sure this must have been put up before, but in my laborious process of uploading my Town Vids to DVD I stumbled across this classic...... the laughter at the end is brilliant, which I almost managed to cut off.... Never posted a vid on youTube before so the editing is a bit shite.

Included bonus Peter Thorne point blank miss for Stoke.

Night all.

Courtesy of Central News South.... I bet McMahon didnt see the funny side of it.

I remember being in the 3 Crowns in Brinkworth once and McMahon was there, he was demanding to have a table, when the french waiter said that he'd have to wait and asked for his name to put on the waiting list, he went mental shouting things like 'Don't you know who I am?'

Hilarious.

And just asking for the waiter to turn round and say "No, no, I'm afraid I don't. But please be quiet, you're disturbing the other diners"

It would've been better if the waiter turned round and said "Yes, a cunt".

what would be ace is if another manager could get us out of L1 like McMahon did.

Presumably you don't want one who's going to get us relegated first ;)

And sells our best player for peanuts...and sells the captain...and the young Swindon boy at centre back, and fires a Swindon legend, and brings in a waste of space at assistant...there's probably other stuff too.

No, because if the other manager took over the team in the Championship, got us relegated from the Championship, and then promoted again it's not really progress is it?

McMoan (and his mate Rikki) took us down into league one in the first place, alienated the fans (even more than Andy King did), before getting us promoted back.

I still remember his words on a GWR phone in when some guy called in to tell him that his team played the worst football he had seen in all his 30 years of being a ST holder at Swindon.
The dopey scouse twat told him that "We don't need fans like you".   ::)

 :soapy tit wank:

To be fair, I bet McMahon cracked skulls after this clip, I can't imagine he appreciated being made a fool of. Probably threatened the TV producer with death if this ever got shown.

I think the fact that Mark Robinson scored with a rather neat finish has been largely overshadowed by everyones hatred of McMahon.....

Any chance you can upload some other stuff from the late 90's? Interesting.

Yep, any requests?

I've got Ty Gooden piledrivers, the guile of Hazard, the genius of Jan Aage, the brillance of Chalky and the power of Postman Dunc all at my fingertips......

I sound like a dodgy market stall owner.

I need to find that fantastic 35 yard volley by Shearer from that night away game at WBA don't I....

The year that McMahon got us promoted, I seem to remember we played Hartlepool at home on the last game of the season and it finished 0-0. Am I right? Also, I remember that I was sat in the Arkells towards the Town End and the Mexican Wave that was going round the ground kept stopping at the last 2 blocks of the DRS towards the Town End. I think that was probably the first time I saw (or remember) home fans getting booed by home fans. It was great  :D

I do, complete with Craig Taylors 30 yard howitzer. I'll try and dig it out and post it, along with some ndah and Iffy goals.

I only have them in a particular format so I have to convert them to post them, it takes a bit of time!!!

Ok, here are some early 90's clips,

Ipswich (A) including a Hazard strike and a horrendous Digby error -

WBA (A) includes a delicate chip from Shearer and an amazing 30 yard piledriver

Sunderland (H) Hazard pulls the strings in this banana's game

Here you go, not the best quality highlights, you get some classic McMahon moaning about beating Tranmere then the Port Vale game kicks in, missed the first Vale goal. But doesnt Craig Taylor sound ever so camp?

Have you got the game against Norwich when Chris Hay lobbed the keeper from 30 yards (97/98) i think.

Chris Hay had the best song ever. I remember seeing him walking through the County Ground car park when around the corner comes a minibus full of Swindon Town youth team players, windows down and all singing "ole ole ole ole Chrissy Hay Hay Hay"

I've got Iffy's diving header vs QPR, from the game in which Digby got sent off and McDonald went in goal. I was convinced I had Ndah's barmy scissor kick/mark hughes-esque goal vs Crystal Palace, but didnt find it.

I'll have another rustle around later and see what I can find....

I havent got any footage from the turn of the century...I stopped being such a geek and recording stuff of the TV around about 1997. And as the club stopped doing end of season vids there is a black hole in my collection.

I had the official goals/season review videos covering pretty much 91 - 96.

I pretty convinced I've got us nailing 4 past Oxford at the Manor Ground, in a game we were two down in? I'll have a look.

The board dont miss many tricks, but they have with the end of season dvd's thus far. It would be worth them getting the last 10 or 15 seasons worth of of Sky, ITV, highlights et al and putting them out, even though for most of that period we have been crap, it would be a nostalgic look back, and i'm certainly that much of an anorak to buy them all.

I've got him scoring on his debut vs Birmingham City... we all thought he was gonna be a megastar then!!!

I think thats the same game that Marlon Broomes 'swept' in a 30 yarder as well!! (I believe that pun was actually used by the Adver in the following days match report)

Larwood found the Daily Star when Bullock clocked Steve Bruce in her dads attic last week. Front cover of their football pull out is Bullock getting restrained by about 4 players.

August 10th 1998.

'FOOTBRAWL IS BACK'

'Steve Bruce was in the wars - after just 11 minutes of his debut as Sheffield United player boss in the 2-1 victory over Swindon
Swindon's fiery midfielder Darren Bullock sparked the fracas which saw Bruce take a punch. But Bruce quipped it was handbags until I got one on the chin, the referee did well to just walk away and get on with it'

He didnt get sent off. Unthinkable now.  :(

The picture is Bullock looking down at Roger Nilsen on the floor. George Ndah looks like he is telling Nilsen to fuck off, crouched over him. This paragraph is a McMahon classic.

'United's Norwegian centre back Roger Nilsen was accused by McMahon of being "unprofessional" and taking a dive during the punch-up
Nilsen said "Bullock had his arms around my throat. I had to go down to get away from him".

Just proof that foreigners have made our national sport a game for poofs if ever it was needed.  ;)

Wow, that was quite a find, old newspapers are quite a scream when you stumble across them, I found an old copy of the telegraph in the attic with coverage of the Wembley victory over Sunderland..... ahh the memories!

McMahon did bring a fair few psycho's into the squad - Bullock and Collins being two that spring to mind. I've got some footage of Gary Elkins flying into Crystal Palace's Carl Veart as he was squaring up to Mark Walters, Elkins barges him to the ground, sparking a brawl.....he didnt get sent off either, but Walters saw red later in the game....

Fuck it, I'll see if I can find it so I can post it up....watch this space....
