Title: 2010 Ryder cup
Post by: leefer on Monday, April 27, 2009, 14:53:13
http://www.rydercup.com/tickets/

This is the official site chaps...very strict on tickets and the good thing is that no tiks will be on ebay...expensive at £100 a day...but cost you 80 for the cup final so ime happy with that...its a ballot so the chances of getting one is minimal...but you never know....as i said you have to put you pic on the ticket so they are NON transferable....its at Newport so really the only chance to see it locally for along while...know alot of you dont watch it but the ballot is in July i believe so for those of you who do fancy it dont hang about.

The course...or Newport itself?

Newport is on the up.....the football team are going for it also.

You still can't make a silk purse out of a cow's arse though.

My Sis-in-Law lives in Newport, and fuck me, what a depressing dump it is. And I notice its trying to call itself a City.....

And if you're travelling to the Ryder Cup (Arriba/leefer), beware the 50 mph limit all the way from the Second Severn Crossing all the way to Newport. Not that you'll be going that fast anyway.......

Well you wouldn't exactly find an 18 hole golf course in the middle of the town centre, would you?

Well you wouldn't exactly find an 18 hole golf course in the middle of the town centre, would you?

Plenty around in the World...Dubai being one(take your point Sam)

You would be suprised how many courses are in or near the centre...St Andrews is part of the Town centre these days...as the popularity of golf grew.....the town gradually built around it.

Thanks for the advice Pumbaa...but as i said i am going by train 8).....will take me 40 mins only.
And arriba...dont forget its cash only on the toll.....i am guessing you have crossed it a thousand times as indeed i have.

Am I alone in wanting to heave every time I see a photo shoot of (mostly) middle aged men wearing matching blazers & slacks?  The chummy smugness of it all completely does my head in.

I was not trying to be specific...sorry if anyone was mislead.  I was simply drawing attention to the issue of general Ryder Cup sartorial wankiness.

I do know it was the US side. The people that designs their kits should be permanantly shot.

Let's not go overboard.  A temporary shooting would be more appropriate in this instance, I think.

Will be interesting to see if they decide to start the singles early to try and make sure that they get a result on Sunday?

You beat me to it.

Looking at the weather forecast, they are due to have fog tomorrow morning and Sunday's weather will be similar to today's.

Normally the Ryder Cup would take place a couple of weeks ago...but thanks to the money making FedEx Cup in the States, they've delayed the start to the beginning of October, and you are likely to get this weather this time of year in Europe.

A lot of unhappy people!...arriba and myself got tickets and paid substantially more to see the last day....looks like that may be Monday now which will mean the European tour will be paying out a lot on ticket refunds.
Believe me they will do all they can to get it finished on Sunday otherwise they will lose millions.

£130 instead of £100.....to be honest its not so much the money but really wanted to be there on the final day....the singles on Sunday dont start till 11.30 so they could start at 7am and play catch up before the singles start.
Fair enough Posh....but to be honest i feel they may give part refunds on todays play....2 hours of golf today will probably mean they will give a little refund for people who maybe had to get home and didnt see any play today...its going to be a lot of hassle for the European PGA to sort out thats for sure.

Bit of a cheeky plug, but the company I work for is giving away Ryder Cup sweaters to the first person to predict todays closing scores.  With only a short amount of play time left you've got nothing to lose by just posting your predictions on the Facebook page.

Apparently fog is due tomorrow morning, and rain due on Sunday, but not as bad as today.

I'm glad that they are trying to get 28 matches in, but it just loses the edge of a normal Ryder Cup. Of course, if they played this a few weeks ago, when they were supposed to, I don't think the weather would've been an issue.

I know it's only nearing the end of the first set of matches but the decsion to pick Harrington is looking like the wrong one at the moment.

And the fact that he now has to play in every session, means that we can't hide him either.

Let's hope that he gets his act together and proves Monty right.

They made a comment on Sky yesterday that all of the singles matches now have to be played in full, even if the result is decided before the 18th.

Don't know whether they will stick to that based on the weather issues.

Anyway hope you both have an enjoyable day tomorrow & tht you get to watch Europe win the cup back :D

Probably another 8am start.

Tiger is struggling badly. In his first two games Stricker has been making all the putts, and now he's not making any, Westwood and Donald are giving them a spanking...finishing 4up after 9.

Looks like it's going to end tonight with Europe up in all 6.

Don't they have some sort of policy like they do with cricket in terms of refunds, i.e. for each hour lost you get a percentage of your ticket cost back?

If not that's one huge oversight. I hope you get to see some golf today and get some money back!

Looks like they don't, or if they do they met the minimum requirements for a days play on Friday. Though they've issued a statement which gives the impression that Friday ticket holders will be able to use them to get in to another golf event next year.

Westwood and Donald tanked them 6 and 5.

Stricker was keeping that parnership together by holing the putts, but Tiger looked poor. No wonder just about all the Europeans want to face Tiger in the singles.

cant believe they're not starting the singles today out of order for those that coughed up a lot of dough....yes it would have taken the tactics out of it a little by not waiting for all the foursomes and fourballs to finish to sort out how they wanted to line up (e.g. westwood and donald may have had to have gone head to head in the singles against stricker n woods).....but they've put the public interest to the back of the queue by doing it like this imo

I thought exactly the same when this was mentioned this morning. They have said that the only people allowed in tomorrow are ticket holders for today, which doesn't help people like arriba, unless he can find a tout to sell his ticket to on the way out to make a few quid.

I see the US TV stations are already making their excuses. I just saw this on the BBC website :

Andy via text: "Sitting in my hotel room in Chicago watching on NBC. Can't believe they just said Europe is winning today because of the weather, long rough, slow greens and local knowledge by playing the Welsh Open here. Any more excuses USA?"

Me too. They could have just sent everyone back out in the singles once they've finished their matches, sure their tactics would be fucked but it would be the same for both sides. Good chance they'd have a result tonight if they did, even if all the matches aren't actually finished - then they can just half the remaining holes and it's job done.

No way to tout your tickets either, think they've got your photo on or something. They should have relaxed this to allow people to pass their tickets on - just screwing them over even more by not doing so. There isn't even going to be a full round played as they were carrying on with the matches. I'd be fucking fuming.

If that's the case, that's crap, as they are not likely to get any money back otherwise, as they've seen golf today, and they had the opportunity to come back tomorrow.

I wouldn't be surprised of an awful crowd tomorrow then because there are going to be a few people in the same boat as arriba.

That was a long day........tainted with sadness as i can't make tomorow(Warrington at 5am)...but happiness in a sense of what i saw today.
Sadness is that like arriba its to short notice to cry off work...singles should have been played today.
Madness that for health and safety we wasn't allowed on course till past 12....believe me it was more unsafe in Newport centre with 20,000 peeps crammed and waiting to get on the shuttle buses.
Can't blame the people on course as they did a great job...off course need to look at themselfs.
Anyware in the UK in October runs the risk of rain.
On the plus side i am thinking of patenting

RYDER CUP CARNAGE...a pc game on funny and dangerous moments like....hoo ray henrys in there wellies sliding all over the place.
An Irish fella who went ass over tits but still managed to kkep half his guinness in the cup...but my favourite...the hitler lookalike of a welshman steward who was telling us all to be carefull...then promply fell over a ten foot hillock to great amusement.
As for the golf didnt see alot but Poulter was quality...in his Dick Dastardly kind of way, spitting image of the treble drat man.........though Kaymer played more like Mutley.
Dont hold out much hope of a refund.....oh well.

What a bloody shame, typical British weather spoiling things again!  I'm glad you still managed to make the most of it Leefer and you're being very pragmatic about the whole thing.  I'd be absolutely distraught if I'd spent all that money and barely got to see any golf let alone the finale which you had paid for!

Shocking if some sort of refund/compensation isn't provided.  :(

Unfortunately I don't think it's going to happen, because Sunday ticket holders are the only ones to watch the climax tomorrow, but I do think Sunday ticket holders, who cannot go, should be free to sell their ticket to people who can, so the let as many people watch the climax as possible, and therefore would get their 'compensation' that way.

the golf and atmosphere was awesome.
my anger and frustration soon left me as soon as westwood sank that putt on the 10th to get the day underway.saw every player today so i am satisfied really.
i could go tomorrow which is the only thing on offer for people who went today and didn't get what they paid to see,but i can't.
that hurts a bit as i had planned to see the singles all along.those that are able to go tomorrow have hit the jackpot.people like me have missed out.i think i should have been offered the difference between the group matches and the singles(£30)but no chance of that.
spoke to poulter, jimenez and kaymer after it had finished briefly as out of the blue as they were just walking by to go to the media centre. saw plenty of prem footballers and celebs out and about.
didn't fall over either whaich was a bonus.

a mate is going to try to get in with my ticket tomorrow.

Never liked golf, it was always shit and boring.

I don't know why i've spent the past two days watching it (when i've been able to). Should watch most of tomorrow hopefully. I know that out of the lot, i'd rather Franco played Tiger, just cost Franco can't putt for shit and because tiger's having a shit time of it - any of the other Americans could walk over Franco. McIlroy - Cink will be a good contest, and with Donald Furyk. Can see Hanson beating Mickelson too, he's just all over the place.

But, i don't know golf, i could be spouting shit, like always.

I think these videos prove how hard it hurts the Americans, and they'll certainly come out fighting in 2012 :

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/golf/9060166.stm

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/golf/9060181.stm

The Europeans never blamed Langer in 1991 for missing a putt on the final green which lost Europe the Ryder Cup and I hope the US papers don't blame Mahan. They were always behind on the final day, and it only became close towards the end. They lost it on Saturday night, when they were behind in all 6 matches, and the Europeans did well on Sunday making sure they got a big advantage in those matches.

Some of the songs on te 1st green all weekend was awesome.

I think the American love coming over here to play the Ryder Cup as the banter between the players and the crowd is better than the States, as all the crowd can normally come out with is the 'USA' chant.

Stewart Cink was having a fun time yesterday morning with the crowd, with the songs they were singing ('He's got more hair than you', 'You've got Big Mac, We've got Little Mac').
