Title: Swindon V Orient Matchday Thread.
Post by: herthab on Monday, April 13, 2009, 05:46:27
Was Saturday the start of a winning run, or will we come back down to earth with a bump?

Orient are a much better team since Williams took over and won't be a pushover.

I think it'll be a draw.

We've followed up our past 3 away wins with 2 defeats and a draw. I'm not feeling too confident about this one

A draw would be very acceptable...think LO have conceded the least goals on the road in the Div....I guess they play counter attacking football.

Id love us to almost seal survival with a romping win, however wouldnt be suprised to see Orient come and spoil the game looking a pinch a goal on the break...

Having said that...they've nothing to play for might just go for it? Or just amble through the game going through the motions?

Looking forward to this. I think the good weather is giving me happy vibes. So we'll probably lose. A draw is a perfectly acceptable result today, despite what anybody on thisis or the post-match phone-in might tell you.

On proverbial paper they can still go down - so I imagine they won't be planning a lovely day trip.

If they're anything like our lot, they'll still slip into "we're safe" mode though. Just have to wait and see I suppose

i honestly believe orient will drop their performance today now they've almost certainly saved themselves from the threat of relegation. as such, we'll either perform dismally and lose narrowly to a scruffy goal late in the game or come flying out of the blocks and be 3-0 up by half-time, conceding a late goal in the second half to make us all touch cloth a little bit.

a win today would be 'massive' as the kids might say. i'm just glad my laptop's speakers have miraculously started working again, so i shall hopefully be able to listen to the game.

that was a disappointing game

could've been very different had we not given them a run at an exposed defence in the first ten minutes though, once they scored it was 11 men behind the ball

Title: Re: Swindon V Orient Matchday Thread.
Post by: timmyg on Monday, April 13, 2009, 16:20:11
We were terrible today. Offered nothing in midfield at all. Every time a midfielder got the ball, they'd stop, turn around and give it to the defence, who would hten lump it p to either Paynter or 5'6" Cox.  Every haf-chance we got was fashioned more out of luck than good play.

Macklin had a shocker, but then so did Timlin and Ifil.  Simply not good enough to win it today.

Having said that, the ref had a nightmare (mainly in our favour) and we did hit the bar and post which would have changed my mood. Paynter wants shooting for the headed chances he missed.

Ifil - Shit
Tudor Jones - Fucking Diabolical
Kanu - Shit
Amankwaah - Shit
Macklin - Shit
Paynter - Shit

One bit of class in the whole game and that was their goal. The ball didn't bounce for us at times, but we looked so lethargic at times, and anyone who wants us to sign tudor-jones needs their head examined. He offers us fuck all more than nalis does, just trundles around the midfield, giving the ball away.

their guy scored a great goal from 20 yards after 2 minutes and after that is was 11 men behind the ball 20 seconds per throw in and 30 seconds each goal kick.

we dominated and it was one sided.

we shouldnt have lost that at all.

Post by: Batch on Monday, April 13, 2009, 16:32:44
One sloppy bit of defending and a great finish. That was all they had. Even the ref tried to help us out.

The performance wasn't that bad. We dominated but had one of those days in front of goal, particularly Paynter who had an otherwise OK match. Nightmare debut for Maklin

Performances, however, are irrelevant, we still need points.

The only crumb of comfort is that all around us lost too. Except Brighton who aren't as dead and buried as they looked 3 hours ago.

i've well and truly lost the stfc habit now and aint bothered about missing games at all.i will go to the rovers game probably though.plenty will desert the club this summer in the form of season ticket holders and i dont blame them.

Yep...we needed to back up Saturday with at least a point today, sadly we're now right back in the shit, today was a microcosm of our season...played OK in parts and lost, follow up a decent result with an opportunity to ease the pressure and blow it.

I think I must have saw a different game than some on here.  I didn't think were terrible at all.  We gave away a silly goal, granted but i've seen us play far worse than that.  We were so unlucky today and if the chances we had went in we could have been 3 up by half time.  Two coming off the bar and one off the keepers head tells me it wasn't our day.  It happens.

Timlin I thought was one of our best players today and thought Paynter did well also.  Thought OTJ and Vincent weren't bad either.  Ifil is Ifil and thought he had a pretty shocking game tbh.

They took their chance and then did nothing more.  We totally dominated the game.

I think we will stay up, however we do have a lot of dead wood which simply has to go come the end of the season.

Felt sorry for Macklin as didn't really work for him today but certainly won't be writing him off/judging him on that alone.  Was pretty disgusted with some of the negativity toward him from some of our fans, hes 17 and has potential and just needs time to settle in.  A bit of encouragement wouldn't have gone a miss.

All in all, a bad day in the office but certainly wasn't as bad as some are making out.

Lastly, Kanu irritates me and needs to start playing as part of a team.

Yep you've missed something...Brighton's win with a game in hand brings 2 spots back into play....Cobblers still have 2 home games in hand 1 v Hereford....Crewe got a point, and Carlisle can drag themselves up by winning Saturday. We needed at least a point to take advantage of Saturday.

I agree with pretty much all of that. Both Timlin and Paynter done well, Greer was immense again. Big Kev is really worrying me now, I've never seen him play well and he was poor again today. Macca didnt make the most of the little possesion he had. Kanu is a talented lad, and his run and cross for cox's header was class, just wish he'd put a bit more into it.

It was completely the wrong time to introduce macklin, and he didn't impress, but the fans treatment of him was pathetic. People round me were actually booing him every touch after his first couple of mistakes. The kid's 17, give him a break!

Lovely finish from their lad after being given the freedom of swindon, then it was 11 men behind the ball after that and we were unlucky not to get a point.

Guy sat next to me actually asked who Macklin was,  then booed him cos he didn't like the colour of his boots.  We do have some real cretins as supporters!  We had plenty of possession, but no guile or craft - not enough cunning to get behind a resolute defence.  When we did get behind them we looked dangerous, but it seemed fairly obvious we were not going to score.

Have I missed something or are we precisely the same distance clear of relegation as we were Saturday night, but with one game less to play?

My worry is thus - 48 points are not generally enough to stay up. Our last three games are tough, a long trip north, a local derby and a game against the probably promoted Peterborough. And aren't we minus Greer and HRK for the last one?

Basically, I wanted the points before Rovers and Peterborough. Which leave us with one hell of a crunch match Saturday.

Still it would be like us to lose the next two and win the last one!

Some of the fans in the DRS are idiots that don't deserve a club to support!  Some of the things shouted at the top of their voices were unbelievable.

Timlin and Greer worked their arses off today and at least looked like they cared, not too many others looked interested enough for me, maybe Paynter and a few other in fits and spurts.  I can't wait until this season is over, I am getting sick of it now.

The final whistle of this season can't come too soon IMO, I just hope we do enough to stay in Lge 1.

This is going down to the last day. I don't think there was much between the teams today apart from the goal. In fact I believe we created almost all the chances** (and squandered most of those). The team only played 2 days ago so I guess that's why they seemed to be jogging for 90 minutes. What concerned me the most today is that we do not win enough second ball and the fact that when we do chase the second ball there are usually 2 players getting in each others way. Please, please, please keep the ball on the floor!

**Just checked the stats....we had 15 shots to there 5 (8 on target  ???) and 11 corners to there 2. Oh well, Carlisle next.

We're 2 points better off than in 05/06, when we only picked up 2 points from the last 3 games...which saw us down...even if we'd won one of those we'd have gone on GD.

That season though all the sides had played even games...it is possible that 48 might be enough if the others implode, but most likely, 50 will be the minimum requirement, and rely on goal difference.

I don't mind the moaning, I'd expect it, but you don't need to scream out at the top of your voice "insert name here" you are shit, why don't you fuck off!  I get hacked off as much as the next man, but I don't shout abuse at the players at the top of my voice.  It does nothing beneficial.

I just hoped we'd build on the great result from Saturday but it didn't happen and we're back having to worry about it again now.Another massive game coming up,why do they have to put us through so much pain  :(

Only just got home from the game. I reckon Leyton Orient should be facing criminal charges on account of the daylight robbery that was them leaving with all 3 points. On another day we'd have won that by 2 or 3 goals.

Don't think putting Macklin on did him any favours, either he is crap or was scared shitless.

He made the most of it. Mcgovern put in a corner, one of the better corners we put in. It was in a good area but none of our players attacked it, and the keeper easily claimed it. He says, rather loudly and triumphantly, "Ha, Mcgoverns back". I was quite proud that a few more around me made clear their disgust at the comment

I don't like it when people seem to pick on the players they want to demonise and then make it there one aim of going to games to continually bitch at that player. If that was the idea of supporting your team then we must have some of the best supporters in the land. I think that some fans expectations of our players have been raised too high through years of exposure to Continental football or the Prem; I think people have to accept that our players are playing football in League one for a reason. I am all for having a moan if someone appears to be slacking, but to slate someone for playing badly (or just for being on the pitch) is wrong.

I really really can't see us getting anything from Carlilse or Posh, and we will draw against rovers.

I agree with most of whats been said on here but the one area I will disagree is in central midfield.
Firstly Timlin.... Well I'm beginning to lose patience with him I don't see what he is actually meant to be doing, he's not acting as a defensive midfielder and helping the defence or supporting the attackers. He doesn't chip in with goals, his set-piece delivery is shocking and he always seems to commit himself in the tackle. Ok he hangs on to ball and maintains possession but the net result is more often than not a backward pass to a defender who then just lumps it upfield negating the point of the possesion football. He doesn't seem to want to take responsibility and drive forward or open up the opposition. OJT is better than the dross we've had in midfield most of this season but he is just an average league 1 midfielder at best but worryingly looks a world beater compared to what we've put up with.

If I was a defender or striker today (and most of the season tbh) I'd have been very disappointed with the support I got from our central midfielders. I lost count of the amount of times Cox or Paynter held on to the ball looking for a central midfielder to lay the ball back to. And on the flip side on the rare occasions Orient did attack there was just a big hole in front of our back 4 where the central midfielders should be.

A strong central midfield in this league can be the difference between struggling with relegation or fighting for the play-offs. When we got to the play-offs in this league last time we had Migs and Hewlett (who yes was nicknamed fairy for a reason but was infiniately better than what we have at the moment). I wouldn't say our defence or strikers are much worse than what we had then but our central midfield is just a mess compared to then.

This isn't a knee jerk or overreaction I just think we have a lack of decent central midfielders and that must be a priority for next season. I would say we have a bigger problem here than we do with the defence. All our creativity comes from out wide, our goals from the strikers and it's down to our back 4 to pretty much deal with all the defending putting them under huge amounts of pressure which results in the mistakes we keep seeing. IMO our central midfielders have offered very little this season.

I think you could be right about Hartlepool, they have a tough run in. Away at Yeovil, Home to Leeds and away at Rovers.

Yeovil still arent mathmatically safe.

Probably could do with them winning that one. Leeds should win and Rovers have nothing to play for so could be a win for Hartlepool (same could be said for our game against Rovers I suppose)

Are you saying that's a bad thing? I think Timlin is one of the few to "get stuck in" at times. I agree that we seem a bit light of Central Midfield players though.

I think timlin does the most breaking up play and disrupting the opposition out of all our center midfielders

Do player of the year awards get withdrawn if the unthinkable happened and we were to go down?

even if we do go down. Cox still deserves player of the year

HELLOOOOO THERE SWINDON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ORIENT FAN IN PEACE  :)

firstly, stop moaning, you will be safe. there i said it  ;) WE ARE NOW MATHEMATICALLY SAFE, YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY. that is bloody marvellous.

secondly, good three points for us today which we didnt deserve one bit. our goal was special (even though Jason had the whole pitch to himslef and you keeper was SOOOOO badly out of position) and from then on we were pretty cack. but it is a testament to the newly revitalised orient that we held on. we would have lost today under Ling  ???

Our manager (the little podgy one on the touchline) is a god, the man has saved our season, 7 wins in 9, 29 points in 14 games. the players have a mentality that they just wont lose games now which is so good to see. I want his babies and so does every O's fan.
Our keeper is awesome but our best player today, and i see someone eluded to it earlier in the thread, was Tamika Mkandawire.whose name your PA announcer like every other one, cant pronounce  :( im sure you'll concede that the bloke was amazing today and NO you cant sign him, he is OURS, altho he will be in the championship before long, though not with us.......

Btw, where is Craig Easton, he is surely a shoein for a starting berth! Orient leg-end

Good away day, lovely ground, lovely weather. Our fans were awesome today, about 800 of us i reckon, we didnt stop singing and had a massive drum   your fans need to stop booing players, altho we do that when things arent going our way....

Good luck for the rest of the season and i hope you stay up cos its a good away day....

As for Easton he's been injured for a long while and hasn't really got involved under Wilson. Could be off in the summer really.

I was hoping we would pick mkandawire up when you did, as always rated him. Easton has just come back from 3 months out injured, but hasn't looked at all good when he has played this season. Eh, our fans were awsome!!!! maybe i am biased cos i am one of them and i was sitting amongst all the noise but i thought we were good.......you were very quiet, but then again so are we at home so we cant complain.

by the way one more thing, and im going to put it in capitals, THE FUCKING REF SHOULDNT BE A REF HE WAS SHOCKING. HE MUST NEED GLASSES COS THE AMOUNT OF TIMES HE MADE THE WRONG DECISION WAS PITIFUL. IM NOT SAYING HE WAS BIASED TO YOU (WE DIDNT GET THE RUB OF THE GREEN AT ALL), MAYBE IT WAS SHEER IMCOMPETENCE, BUT EITHER WAY HE WAS WOEFUL

You're fans were good. A lot better than some of the teams to come here this season. Crewe and you made some decent noise and you're both low down yet the likes of MK and Scunthorpe were pants. We're always quiet at home. Have been since the first game. We've been pretty dire at home all season though except of late.

I've seen worse refs though mate. The one we had at home to Hartlepool for a start.

the thing is (and maybe its the same for you even tho you have way more at your homes games than us), we have diabolical home support, 4500 home fans on average, but we travel well.

i remember the first season back in this league 2 yrs ago, we had 3900 for i think crewe or someone at home and the following week 400 away at carlisle in the rain, its odd. some of our fans are mental and at away games we make a lot of noise.

its to do with having well known london cludbs like spurs arsenal and wet sham on our doorstep

I managed to be persuaded to go today....

I thought the Orient fans were great, and I'm not talking about the noise they made, met loads of them in the Cricket Car Park, what a nice lot of fans they are, good luck to them.

How the hell did we not get at least a point - I read earlier in this thread that Paynter was shit, for goodness sake what game where you watching, I thought he worked his socks off and played another great game.
Surprised Kanu got MoM, Vincent or Greer for me.
Ifil, I've always been a great fan of his, today he was shocking.
Been looking forward to seeing TCP's bum-bandit playing, not looking forward to next time, he was awful.

At the end of the day, I quiet enjoyed the game, we lost but I've seen us play a lot worse and win.

OE, I thought you fans were decent, louder than ours, but our team didn't give us much to shout about.  Unfortunately our ground has been like a morgue most of the season, there have been one or two glorious exceptions when we have had something to cheer.  Oh, and that ref, he was shocking and a bit biased, unusual for us to get one like that in our favour, but we still couldn't score!

The ref was brilliant. He gave all the correct decision for the whole of the 90 minutes :)

To be honest I was nearly embarrassed we got some of them. Then I remembered we are in a relagation fight and came up with the above interpretation.

I thought we played well today, and if the chances that hit the post and the bar had gone in I reckon half the people on here who've slated the players would be saying what a great performance it was.

I thought Smtih played well today, and Greer was superb as usual. Kanu did well in terms of making space and running at players but the general problem today was a lack of end product from the whole team. The fact that Macca and Cox were being triple marked at times should have meant we had players in space, but we didn't. Wilson should look at that, especially with the central midfielders who offered very little going forward all game.

Fair play to Orient. It takes a lot of guts to sit and watch the opposition walk around you and fire crap shots at your keeper, but they had the balls to let us try! Unfortunately we didn't make it pay. Tony Mowbray was there today. Given the amount of chances created for him to judge Cox on, he had a wasted journey.

Oh, and for all those who booed or slagged off Macklin, give the kid a chance. I agree that he came on and offered very little, wasting chances, but he's just a kid. After about 5 minutes he must have been bricking it every time he got the ball incase he made a mistake. If I were him, I'm not sure I'd want to set foot on the County Ground pitch again. Hopefully he's man enough to go out there and prove the critics wrong with a late winner against Rovers!

Reeves4England, understand where you are coming from with your comments about Macklin, maybe he tried too hard to show us his special skills which we have all heard about and waited to see, did not think it was the right sort of game to bring him into today, said that earlier in the week.

I just wished he tried to do the simple things like keeping the ball in play on two occasion he just ran the ball into touch, and on another the ball just ran over his foot and into touch, put that along with another occasion of totally miscontrolling, and the total unawareness that he actually was meant to run after that sphere and make the odd challenge then, to say his debut was shcoking is being really kind to him.
Heard great reports about him and I'm sure he is a very good player, if he is going to make it into the professional ranks he has to come through games like this.

What I saw today was bloody awful, tomorrow is another day.

Thought it a curious decision to bring him on...normally you bring on a kid in an end of season game when nothing much hangs on it...to do so in a game when the fans were on edge, opened the possibility of what happened...idiots getting on a 17 year old's case for a couple of poor touches.

You'd have thought JPM a better bet in circumstances...maybe Wilson had some other motive for his decision.

or maybe its because Macklin is a talent and has pace to burn and Wilson thought that maybe getting on a fresh pair of legs to run at the Orient defence might cause them problems?

Fred, you should have been sitting where I was mate.  That cunt next to me started as soon as he saw him stood on the touchline!

I must admit to having a chuckle when I saw his boots and his school socks worn on the outside of his kit mind

Could easily be the reason.

We had them on the rack at the time of the subs, and after he came on we seemed to be playing with only 10 men.

I see Ronnie says there were fans knocking him, well that is right out of order, he is a young lad, and the future of our club is with the youth.

Mistakes and bad games they will have, but we must support them.

Where did this Macklin come from? the right winger in the second half right? he didnt have a squad number on the prog. he wasnt that bad!

and we thought amankwaa did well, specially in the 1st half, hmmm

as was mcnamee, who was taken off surprisingly, cos he was roasting Purches (our RB) in the 1st half.

Pity JJ melligan wasnt roasting your left back  :(

that would've involved leaving your half and risk putting more than 1 person ahead of the ball

We just need to give Macklin some time. Morrison looked pretty shit the first time I saw him start a game, Marshall was really shit the first few appearances as well (he might not be brilliant now but he has improved).

What is Macklin's position? He looked more like a striker / winger rather than a midfield / winger, does he ever play as an out and out striker? He seems fast (on the one occasion his first touch wasn't shit) and looked a bit better once he was moved in to the middle towards the end.

No-one can 'roast' Jamie V.

We had everything today, except the finishing product in their box. Paynter should've buried the header, and at times we could have got a shot away a little quicker,or played simpler balls to the touchline. Their goal was their easter egg, too much space, too early in the game, we should not of had our defense pushed that high so early on. Other than that defensively we had nothing to do. Our midfield were passengers for the first half, timlin got stuck in second half but OTJ useless throughout. Mcnamee and kanu played well on the wings, but kanus attitude at times was shocking, cant understand mcnamee going off - his crosses caused their defence some problems, would've liked to see us go three at the back a little earlier on with JPM, not macklin. First time i've seen him play - he had pace and thats it,nothing to shout home about. Some of the mistakes he made weredreadful, i can understand why he got the stick he did. Cox and paynter were cox and paynter, worked together, went looking for the ball - but had to hold it up too much cause of the garbage in midfield. Instead of last minute lapses it was the early lapse that have cost us, should've won that - they were nothing special and we played some good stuff.

OE, there are some players in the Swindon team who would draw criticism from our supporters, even if we won every game 6-0!  Macklin is still a youth team player, made a mistake with his first touch and some sections of our "supporters" were on his back straight away!  Unfortunately McNamee cannot always last a full 90 minutes, something to do with his asthma I believe.

Were there any Swindon players on the pitch yesterday that didn't make quite a few mistakes because unless I was watching a completely different game they ALL seemed to, big defensive error that lead to Orient's goal.  We could have been 4-1 up at half-time if chances hadn't been squandered with piss poor shots that the goalie could have saved with his eyes shut and I lost count of the amount times that the ball was miskicked into no-mans land or just passed to Orient as if it were a gift.  Macklin seems to be getting quite a bit of stick for his performance and yeah he did seem a bit shell shocked when he 1st came on.  But I would imagine that yesterday was probably the biggest crowd he has ever played in front of so I wish the "idiots" would get off his back because if that last shot hadn't gone over the bar you would all be bigging him up and you wouldn't give a toss what colour boots he had on!!!

Macklin certainly had a mare of a debut, but how anyone can write him off after one nervy performance is beyond me. Bad performance aside, he is now on a massive learning curve and it will probably take a fair while to make the jump from reserve->1st.

OTJ is indeed marmite, although I thought he had a poor game yesterday. For me he is the kind of player you don't notice until he's not playing.

Macklin was shit and to be honest nerves would have set in. Nice ball into the box though. I personally think that JP McGovern should have come on to be honest. I don’t believe he should have been put into such a game to be honest. He was frustrating but again maybe trying too hard to impress. Maybe get safety first and then bring him on. How good has Paynter been the second half of the season???!!!!!

Is his contract up in the summer, because he'd be worth keeping.

There was one or two really good headed chances in the first half he really should have done much much better with. I also get a bit annoyed with his constant efforts from 30 yards when he's got much better options either side of him. Other than that i do genuinely belive he is a really good striker, just needs to work on his anticipation

How did Paynter have a poor game? I thought he was lively, strong, got himself in good scoring positions and was unlucky with a few headers. One of his better games.

Without Paynter Cox certainly wouldn't have scored so many. I think they're a great partnership.

At least he created or was on the end of chances.

In my opinion we're missing that creative drive in the middle of the park. Tudor Jones can pick a pass when he wants to, but he takes too long to think about things and needs to be a bit more instinctive. Timlin can turn up one game and not the other. I thought Macca and Robson-Kanu had decent games, obviously not without errors, but if anything was going to happen it would be from those two.

the one thing that annoyed me about our wingers is they run so slow with the ball.

each time they were stepovering towards the full back who was showing them outside each time but they never took it.

I was begging Macca or HRK to just once knock it down the line and race onto it. I think Wilson saw this and thats why he decided to bring Macklin on when he did. Obviously it didnt go to plan

Well, after getting home from the match and having my dinner the predictable row that had been brewing for two days kicked off in the Flash household.
I fucked off and spent the night in a hotel and i reckon that this is the end for Flash and her indoors.
Pastures new await and i think i have now decied to stay single. :nonono:
Sat outside a McDonalds on my laptop working out my next step.
I blame Malpas for my current situation, he has ruined my life! :toughguy:
Anyway.....back to the game.
I think that we have played worse and won this season.
It was just one of those matches where we could of been there all night and not scored...as the game wore on it became apparent that panic was replacing patience and that played into Orients hands.
Cox was crowded out at every touch and we couldnt seem to do anything with the space that this produced.
Nobody played that bad or that well.
Ifil seemed to fuck up for the goal (which was however taken very well) but improved thereafter.
Timlin, who have had a pop at on here recently played very well IMHO.
I reckon 49 or 50 maybe enough and so we need to get something out of the last three games.....i have watched Swindon long enough to realise that it will go to the final game or we will have to wait for Northampton to fuck it up ala Rovers all those years ago.

This season has been torture.

I'm with you both on this as well.  He was very good in general play but did a fine impersonation of a central defender in front of goal with some pass backs and clearing a few headers nice and wide away from danger.  Don't get me wrong, around the pitch he put a good shift in as did everyone pretty much.  I'd like to think Greer will stay if and when we secure our status in this league, and then another player to replace Ifil.

That's partly because a majority of our fans don't like players who can pass the ball to their own team.
They want us to play route one, get it in the box at every opportunity and when that doesn't work we can moan & bitch about our players not trying hard enough.

FWIW, I thought we played pretty well, but the finishing was piss poor.
Other than the OTJ free kick their keeper didn't have to do anything spectacular. Sure, he was solid & did what he had too well, but he didn't need to be that great.

Couldn't believe that people boo'ed the team off at the end.
I know it wasn't the result we wanted, but the performance was much better than the one against Crewe.

On reflection they didnt deserve to be booed off.

Orient scored a good goal. Then they did a job on us, so well done them. Even though the ref was heavily in our favour. Complete homer.

I think all season the team has relied on getting the first goal.

It was a massive relief that other results went our way.

And to be fair to Orient and Crewe, they both bought very decent away followings really, in comparison to some clubs who are near the top and have brought terrible followings.

Totally spot on!

That also applies to Timlin as well.  He can have his shocking games, but at least he takes some responsibility, puts his foot on the ball and tries to pick out a pass instead of hoofing it up to our two strikers that have done very well as a pair this season but are not exactly the best in the air.  Even Paynter who is the big man of the two does not win enough headers for his size.

I think Batch summed it up very well.... everybody has a go at Timlin and OTJ but if they were not there we would soooooo notice it.  They stand up to the responsibility of putting their foot on the ball and therefore stand up to the abuse when it goes wrong.  Trust me it is easy to play the long ball everytime and let the player on the other end take the flack because they have a first touch of a rapist!

Would you rather have Easton and Peacock, or Timlin and OTJ?  I know which ones I would choose!

I'd like to see Peacock and a temporal quantum Peacock clone fight it out in a centre circle arena. This could end in three ways:
1) Two bloodied de-limbed Pacocks, both of which will get their insurance pay off and retire from football
2) Both instantly vanishing in a matter anti-matter reaction, creating a mini ball of pure energy which would float off to explore parallel universes using a double peacock energy conciousness as it's guide.
3) Universe ends.

Worth the risk.

The lad has pace on the wings, which is what i like to see. in time i hope he will come good and the nerves will have been got ridden of. next season, if we dont have kanu, i think him and macca will play vital roles in the team in the type of play wilson wants to play.
