Title: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: chrome dome on Friday, April 10, 2009, 17:40:45 At last Lloyd Macklin has been given the chance to travel with the 1st team and looks likely to get a bench place against Brighton - but is it too little too late?
Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: Arriba on Friday, April 10, 2009, 17:42:43 to late for what?
Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: blinkpip on Friday, April 10, 2009, 17:43:01 too little.
Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: chrome dome on Friday, April 10, 2009, 17:44:09 if they had given him the chance before would they be in such a mess? There isn't a better winger at the club

There isn't a better winger at the club Better than Macca and Kanu?Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: chrome dome on Friday, April 10, 2009, 17:47:09 definately - how many times have they had bad games? Macklin hasn't had any in the first team because he hasn't had the chance - give him a chance and see what he can do
Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: axs on Friday, April 10, 2009, 17:47:49 if they had given him the chance before would they be in such a mess? There isn't a better winger at the club I've only seen him play twice, and neither time against league opponents, he looks good, but not sure he can be described as our best winger by a long shot. By what I've seen he needs to sort his discipline out as well. Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: chrome dome on Friday, April 10, 2009, 17:49:57 true he's arrogant and has an attitude but look at all the star players - a bit of a swagger is all part of the game. We have nothing to lose in giving him a go - he can't do any worse than the others have
Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: DV on Friday, April 10, 2009, 17:52:42 far from our best winger but huge potential.
I've watched him twice in the reserves and he's done alright and set up goals on both occasions. Certainly alot quicker than Macca and HRK but not better yet, although in a couple of years... Anyway, I cant remember the exact game but he's been the squad once this season already but didnt make the 16 so dont hold your breath. Also, JPM played for the reserves - reckon he could still play a part at Swindon even if no one else does... Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: Arriba on Friday, April 10, 2009, 17:55:21 what dv said.
Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: chrome dome on Friday, April 10, 2009, 17:57:41 its got to be a psoitive step but one they should have taken a lot earlier. It may even be a tactic to convince him to sign a contract. He's out of contract in the summer and a new 2 year deal is still unsigned
Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: Arriba on Friday, April 10, 2009, 18:04:14 if he was that good and ready,he would have played in the first team by now.
Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: DV on Friday, April 10, 2009, 18:06:24 I would have liked to have seen him given a game earlier but since we've bought in HRK we've been alright out on the wings.
I would assume this also spells the end for Mark Marshall but thats old news. Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: chrome dome on Friday, April 10, 2009, 18:08:49 if Malpas and Wilson had any balls then he would have had his chance but they preferred to use average players who let them down and that's why we're so close to the drop zone.
Marshall was a joke when they signed him and he's got worse Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: axs on Friday, April 10, 2009, 18:09:25 are you his dad?
Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: Arriba on Friday, April 10, 2009, 18:10:12 ok lloyd we get the point.
Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: Rich Pullen on Friday, April 10, 2009, 18:11:30 If we're giving the likes of Razak and Marshall run-outs during this crucial stage of the season, we might aswell give someone like Lloyd Macklin a go!
If he plays at all this season it'll give us the chance to rate him as there's obviously a big difference reserve team football and the 1st team - this, instead of bemoaning a missed opportunity if/when he leaves in the summer. Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: chrome dome on Friday, April 10, 2009, 18:12:36 if i was I wouldn't be on here
Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: chrome dome on Friday, April 10, 2009, 18:15:54 well all the doubters can carry on supporting the team in league 2 next season. If Wilson carrys on ignoring his best young players and sticks with average nobodys then we'll be challenging for the league 2 title next year.

It's amazing the amount of people on here who are better managers than anyone we've had since Hoddle. Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! I think a lot on here would like to see him given a chance, but he's not our best winger. yet. Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: DV on Friday, April 10, 2009, 18:19:29 we've lost 1 in the last 5 with these 'average nobodys'
would playing macklin more have had that much of an effect on our season? dont get me wrong I rate him but we wouldnt be much better off if Macklin was playing every week. Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: chrome dome on Friday, April 10, 2009, 18:21:57 there's no point waiting until we are relegated until we try out some of the young talent. Winning a few games recently doesn't make up for the rest of the rubbish we've put up with this season

Post by: DV on Friday, April 10, 2009, 18:26:44 Yeah, we never try out our young talent at all.
Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: Rich Pullen on Friday, April 10, 2009, 18:27:04 Yeah, we never try out our young talent at all. :) Morrison is actually 35. Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: DV on Friday, April 10, 2009, 18:28:34 ...and Callum Kennedy is 27
Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: chrome dome on Friday, April 10, 2009, 18:29:13 no Morrison's mother is 35 - around the waist
Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: Rich Pullen on Friday, April 10, 2009, 18:31:49 no Morrison's mother is 35 - around the waist Meow. Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: 4D on Friday, April 10, 2009, 18:31:58 Sounds like DW is going for an attacking line up.
Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: chrome dome on Friday, April 10, 2009, 18:32:46 ok maybe 38
Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: reeves4england on Friday, April 10, 2009, 18:35:54 In the Adver he seems to be trying to get Brighton to bottle it, perhaps setting up to attack is all part of the masterplan
Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: chrome dome on Friday, April 10, 2009, 18:39:19 maybe a tactic and its strange to take Macklin on a crucial away day at such a dodgy time but maybe he has had enough of being let down by the other guys
Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: reeves4england on Friday, April 10, 2009, 18:45:07 To be fair, if he's in the 16 its a similar idea to having Marshall on the bench when we played MK away. He came on for Macca, and MK relaxed, then Marshall tore them to pieces as they weren't expecting anything from him. There's every chance Macklin could do the same but it'd be a gamble
Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: Panda Paws on Friday, April 10, 2009, 18:49:28 As much as I'd like to see him develop here, this aint the right time. To even suggest Macklin is better than HRK is ridiculous, and JPM and Macca are decent league one players, although most will disagree about JPM.
Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: Rich Pullen on Friday, April 10, 2009, 18:50:49 He'll just be a sub. Maybe more against Orient, who knows.
Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: chrome dome on Friday, April 10, 2009, 18:53:53 but looking at the squad how many would you really want to have next season - we definately don't want another year like this whether we stay up or not

Post by: axs on Friday, April 10, 2009, 19:00:24 but looking at the squad how many would you really want to have next season - we definately don't want another year like this whether we stay up or not I'd keep the wingers though. Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: dell boy on Friday, April 10, 2009, 19:13:20 I'm sure Macklin has great potential, but the next three games is not the time to bring him into the first team.
If we are safe come Rovers, Peterboro then fair enough. I think he should have been given a chance earlier in the season, I believe Malpas was on the verge of starting him just before he got the boot. Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: santasdead on Friday, April 10, 2009, 19:32:02 I'd keep the wingers though. we probably won't have kanu. we have to try macklin in the first team before we go and shop around in the summer for a winger to replace kanu. its not the right time to bring him into the squad - but we've had marshall on the bench a few times and he's come on, wilson probably wants to see what macklin brings to the team if he comes on as a sub. Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! I don't think Wilson would risk him in a relegation battle without seeing something in training that makes him useful in the here and now. That said, he's only in the squad, might not even play a part. Title: Re: Macklin in Brighton squad - at last!!! Post by: Barry Scott on Friday, April 10, 2009, 23:43:14 I know nothing about him, but i am quite sure that this thread could spark an argument between Chrome Dome and JVC about who knows most about da yoof. Either that or they'll exchange private messages and have a shag.
