Title: Nu-Snooker Post by: michael on Thursday, April 9, 2009, 18:17:01 I know there are fans of cue sports in attendance.
This is interesting: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_sports/snooker/7991487.stm Title: Re: Nu-Snooker Post by: Samdy Gray on Thursday, April 9, 2009, 18:38:24 Sounds a shit idea to me.

Title: Re: Nu-Snooker Post by: Batch on Thursday, April 9, 2009, 19:11:04 This is interesting: http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q214/Meggi_Ravenclaw/Snooker/SteveDavis.jpg Could be OK, enough purists hate 20/20 but it makes cricket watchable. No reason this couldn't do the same for snooker. Then again Pot Black died a death eventually - and that was 1 frame snooker. And if you want a quick game there is always Pool. Title: Re: Nu-Snooker Post by: reeves4england on Friday, April 10, 2009, 00:07:35 I'm sorry, but comparing snooker to cricket is bollocks imo
Title: Re: Nu-Snooker Post by: jonny72 on Friday, April 10, 2009, 00:56:58 Speed snooker is the way forward, say 6 seconds a shot or something like that.
Comparing cricket to snooker makes sense. 20/20 works well alongside test cricket, why not a shorter / quicker / more exciting take on snooker along the same lines whilst keeping the longer format alongside? You've abviously never played. There is already a quicker format, the premier league. 25 seconds per shot. That's enough. Fuck this 6 reds bollocks! Like someone else said, want a quick cue sport, watch pool. Title: Re: Nu-Snooker Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Friday, April 10, 2009, 11:38:23 Instead of having 6 seconds per shot or any amount of seconds per shot really why not have time limits on the frames? So you have a 10 minute time limit on all frames and if there is no clear winner at the end of the time then the player with the most points wins the frame. There could also be a punishment for time wasting like automatically giving the opponent 4 points as in a Snooker. Do a match that is best of 5 and you have 50 minutes to 60 if you include braking/setting up time.
Title: Re: Nu-Snooker Post by: michael on Friday, April 10, 2009, 11:44:42 You should get double-points if you pot off a double, and an extra point for every extra cushion the potted ball hits before going in.
That's what I'd like to see happen. Title: Re: Nu-Snooker Post by: jonny72 on Friday, April 10, 2009, 11:47:42 6 seconds a shot?! You've abviously never played. The fastest 147 break (by Ronnie O'Sullivan) ever took on average 8.9 seconds per shot so I don't think 6 seconds is that unreasonable. Maybe 6 seconds if you're at the table and 10 seconds when you're not, 25 seconds is far too long. The whole point is to speed it up to make them play shots straight away with just a quick thought. Title: Re: Nu-Snooker Post by: flammableBen on Friday, April 10, 2009, 11:54:57 Don't see a problem with putting in 1 tournament in like this, as long as they don't fuck with the World/UK Championships I'm not bothered.
This is clearly just an excuse because the snooker mines are running out of red balls. Title: Re: Nu-Snooker Post by: michael on Friday, April 10, 2009, 11:56:49 They could also allocate one pocket to a particular coloured ball, ala Big Break, and if you pot a ball in it's pocket, then you get double-points.
Encouraging more exotic shot selection is what will save snooker from the global economic downturn. |
