Pretty peed off I can't afford tickets for the Specials gigs this and next month :( but I have heard a few whispers on the Madness grapevine that they will be supporting Madness at Madstock in July (along with Phill Jupitus and the Blockheads) and I have tickets for that so I am keeping my fingers crossed!

Brixton underground station is about 100 metres from the Academy.

Don't park at Brixton, thats a big no no, parking is poor and expensive and theres a lot of car crime in the area.

Good move, just turn right out of the station and you cant miss it, there is a bar on the left as you look that will be playing their album as people have their pre gig pints (forget the name) there is also a decent pub on the right 50 yds up (again i forget the name) Top venue though, should be a good evening.

Possibly, but every time i've been there i've come out of the main rebuilt entrance, and then turned right to the Academy. 

It's weird, thinking about the route turning right makes sense, but I'm sure I remember turning left out of there, and walking back and it being on the right. I have a feeling I'm going slightly mad.

The Specials have been forced to reschedule tonight's show at London's Brixton Academy after doctors advised singer Terry Hall to rest up for 24 hours following a throat infection. The band have rescheduled the gig for May 16th and tickets for the May 6th show will be valid for the new date or ticket holders can get a refund at the point of purchase by May 11th. The band deeply regret any inconvenience this may cause their fans and are optimistic that the remaining shows at Brixton Academy - May 7th, 8th, 11th and 12th will go ahead as planned.

You are obviously a Specials fan.... have you heard of a band called the Killertones who have played a few times in Calne over the past few weeks. Very good band who play Ska etc.

I like all sorts but i love bands who have lyrics that reflect real life experiences...The Specials always did that in their tracks...Friday night Saturday Morning is my fave!
('Wish there was lipstick on my shirt, instead of piss stains on my shoes!').

Also loved Pulp lyrics.

Where does this band play near Calne....im not a local lad here.

I believe they have their own website and I think they are a Swindon based band.....I have seen them in the Kings Arms about 3 times in the last 3 months and they are very good...they seem to have quite a loyal following. They also play music from the era i.e. late 70's early 80's. Enjoyed it every time  :) PS. Ignore misery guts YB  ;)

The Kings is defo shut - we went to go there Sun night!! had to go to the Landsdown instead - bad times - Its the only nice centralish pub in Calne - hope it does re-open - feel a bit sorry for whoever runs it having to have bouncers etc cause of problems in the past

Isn't that some sort of looking back illusion though arriba? If you're comparing the best 10 bands of the last 30 or so years with 10 bands which have released albums in the last 2 years then the former is always going to have an advantage.

Not strictly true YB as there is a thriving Two Tone/Ska live music scene, all of the old groups (with the exception of the Specials) have never stopped touring and live gigs often in front of 2-3,000 people.

The Beat, Madness, Bad Manners, Selector, Nev Staples Specials and many more have never stopped touring as The Specials did, which is why these gigs are very "ahem" special!

What a great weekend in the smoke....Specials Friday night and Prisicilla Queen of the desert last night.

Specials were excellent....Venue at Brixton (my first time there) was brilliant, acoustics and view spot on.  I hate the bigger venues of Millenium, Wembley and NIA....

It was a scorching show and so hot....i reckon we lost 5 lbs between us.....just great!!!!

Really considering going to Leeds to catch them on the Sunday of May bank holiday it's the only dates left with any tickets.

 Was good to see the Specials again, just a bit of a shame that Jerry Dammers couldn't be persuaded to make it.

 At the end of the day though it's music for old farts...lot of strong messages, not sure if they're still relevant.

Oh dear, but saying that my neice was in the same situation at 17 herself, so there is a certain amount of relevance still to the lyrics.

I couldn't disagree more...in terms of education, training and support services for young people this has been a golden age....the fact that many of them are too feckless to make anything of the opportunities, doesn't alter the fact that opportunities are there.

Back in the days of the Specials, we were just heading into the full effects of the spending cuts made by Thatcher's first government, and the ugly spectre of mass unemployment rearing it's head.
