thinking of upgrading my PC and was wondering how much you reckon i'd get for my old set-up.

all i'd be selling is:

E8400 @ 3.8ghz
Kingston Hyper X 1066mhz x 8gb
Gigabyte EX38-DS5 Motherboard
AF Pro7 CPU Cooler
Sony CD/DVD RW
Sony CD/DVD Reader
Coolermaster 330 Elite Case

Sell it all seperately on eBay, you'll probably get more that way.

i was thinking that but not sure i have the box for the chip.
i was thinking i'd get £300 for the lot but may get more seperatly.

ram and board are only a month old too

i could also include my old harddrive too which is 250mb.

all the buyer would need is a graphics card and PSU.

Perhaps i'm still stuck in the dark ages, but that seems like something most people upgrade to. In fact that's a better spec than my last new pc! To be fair though, i've already said that when i have to leave XP 32bit (imminent), it'll be to Linux or a Mac. I won't ever allow Microsoft to pain my life again.

With more Ram than you can shake a stick at, I can only presume you run an incredibly light weight OS? Being a bit like mystic meg, with none of the masculinity or the mystique, i also guess you enjoy running all the latest bloatware, along with accompanying search bars, and to ensure security against all the spyware you've installed you run 35 anti-virus programs. With Norton running as at least 24 of those. :D

Being serious, i think i know someone who'll have that off you. What'll you accept please?

soapy tit wank. i run Kaspersky and Vista x64. it's the power hungry games @ 1920x1080 and dvd burning that take up the ram.

unsure at the moment as (hopefully) i'll be upgrading to the new i7 chips.

To be brutally honest though Magic, you can almost buy the parts brand new for not much more than that.

The X38 being a poor P35 replacement, the P35's can be had for £50 these days.
E8400's are £130....personally I would never buy a second hand pre overclocked chip.
8gb of 800mhz (there is no actual gain with the 1066mhz over 800mhz in benchmarks) for £55.
AC F pro cooler £15.
Generic DVD writer £15
Generic DVD reader £7
Coolermaster 335 case £30

That comes to around £300 for a comparable brand new system

Admitedly I NEVER buy second hand PC components and so I do not know the market value of them on Ebay and the like.

But I would expect £200 absolute tops for the parts IMO.

Well a 3.0Ghz E8400 is on Ebay at the moment at £107 - and still has 3 days left to run....

Also an ASUS 775 Mb, 3.0 Ghz E8400 and cooler at £200 - this one has 2 days to go....

Ebay is a great place to get rid of your old junk :)

Bet that's brand new.

Though if not, flog it all separately on ebay. You don't need the retail boxes to do so.

Sorry to like Hijack but I have a question.. Most of the pictures on my Laptop at the moment seem to have a white box with a red x in... Any idea why? and how can I get rid of these? I can't some people's display pictures on here either its just a box with the x?

It sounds like your internet security is blocking the images. If it has an advert blocking feature, try allowing the site in your exception list.

£200 is very low so i doubt i'll be selling it that cheap. and to get all my system in at £300 is impossible.

the cheapest E8400 i can find anywhere is £140 and the x38 @ £125 + ram @ £80 for 8gb = £345 + case etc is close to over £400.

you say that the x38 is a poor replacement yet people opt for these boards because of the overclocking potential and the ability to run crossfire @ x16 as opposed to x16/x4 for better fps within games. Why buy a decent chip and sacrifise it with a very poor £50 P35? which doesn't support the FSB or the 1066mhz ram?
