Title: Reading/Leeds 2009
Post by: Rich Pullen on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, 13:37:48
I appreciate that there are plenty of good bands that have been announced but it's a big fat 'meh' for me.

Keep an eye on the Guilfest, so far Motorhead, Brian Wilson, and The Happy Mondays have been announced, now that's eclectic.

I was thinking of doing one day at Reading, either the Saturday or Sunday. When I saw the line-up the only bands that interested me were Kings of Leon and Placebo and they're both on the cunting Friday. Shit.

One day at a festival is enough for me for one year (V festival!) - need to break myself in slowly

eugh imagine if you saw the gossip by accident and that fat thing got her minnie out like she normally does - horridness

It's a fucking great lineup, especially as it's only the first few bands but Reading always gets the best lineups. Radiohead, Kings of Leon, Artic Monkeys, Prodigy, Bloc party, Placebo, Maximo Park, Ian Brown, Glasvegas, AFI, Friendly Fires, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, White Lies and the Deftones are all well worth seeing, £175 is expensive but worth it. I was going to go but my mates have decided they can't afford to go and go on holiday too.

I've seen worse lineups... i don't think Reading is the sort of place i want to spend a weekend though. I'm getting old...

Tis a good line-up but £175 is a rip-off.
I went twice around 2001-2002-ish, had a blast, the £100 was about right value-wise.
The thought of festivals now really doesn't appeal, I think I'm too old for all the camping malarkey.

Well I'm off to Glasto again. I actually think the Line up is better this year, but even if it wasn't thats only part of it.

I can still smell the bogs from Latitude last summer. Think it'll be a while before I bother with another festival. And probably only for a day at that.

My flatmate bought a ticket and it's his missus' birthday on the Saturday so he cant go, what a tool. I've taken it off his hands, will probs sell it on for a profit though.

Any offers....

Hmm, tempted by this for the Wonderstuff

But I'd have to suffer the Super Fury Animals. Then again, it's only £35.

I am going on the Sunday, to see Radiohead, but also on the assumption that they are picking the lineup for that day. Bloc Party and Yeah Yeah Yeahs would suggest that they are.

Last year their tour cost £50 for them and one support, so that is how I justify spending £80 on a ticket :)

I just tried entering 'Radiohead' into youtube to add some clips to my music library, and got an interesting result...

I'd go just for Radiohead on Sunday. The rest is pretty good too, Prodigy, Kings of Leon and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Do Radiohead get to pick the line-up for Sunday?

The Prodigy, Placebo, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Deftones will all doubtless be awesome. I've seen The Prodigy before and they're great live. Have wanted to see the other 3 but never actually done it. I might see AFI too if I was going. But sadly I'm not.

I think the line up is good given how much I like those 4 bands I mentioned. Radiohead would probably be good too.

Hmmmm.....It's not a bad line up, but i've seen better.....I think i'll choose Download Festival over Reading, this year....Although FFAF are playing at this one. How much is it for just the one day?

£45 for Neil Young, Fleet Foxes, and Seasick Steve at Hyde Park, much better value.

That does sound like a good deal for £45.

There's something on in Clapham on the 30th as well I think, 'Get Loaded in the Park' I think its called.

Thats only up the road for me, and normally quiet a mixed bag, only one of the lineup i've seen announced so far is Orbital.

Seasick Steve seems a bit shit to me, Neil Young's got some decent songs and fleet foxes are alright but that's not really great value when a day of Reading is £70 and the line-up is better on all 3 days.

Depends on your tastes, I like all 3, but couldn't tell you one song from half of those at reading. So thats poor value to me.
