Title: Job Dilemma! Post by: stfc11 on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 19:53:31 OK, i have a problem! I have an interview tomorrow at a shop i worked at for Christmas. I really enjoyed it there, only problem is the interview is for a weekend job, meaning i would have to miss Swindon matches and i have a season ticket, and haven't missed a home match for 5+ years, if after the interview they still want me, but say they'll only have me if i do Saturdays, do i take the job and miss football, or say thanks but no thanks and say when people leave for Uni in June i'd be up for the week day job instead? Would declining the weekend job hamper my prospect in the future or would they just understand? And my other dilemma is, i have no job, so i should take anything i can get really? Or decline and hope i get a week day job somewhere else? This isn't written out very well but i hope you get my drift. Bottom line is, i can't imagine missing a home match (am i really sad?! :-[) but i would really like the chance to go back and work there plus the fact that i'd be earning money! I feel the need for some wise townend help!

Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Post by: suttonred on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 19:56:11 There's only 4 home games left, take the job and throw 4 sickies.

I feel the need for some wise townend help! I'd probably take the job. And I'm not sure if this is a typo, but uni term times tend to be similarish to school ones, so people tend to leave for uni septermberish (often late sept). Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Post by: DMR on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 19:57:14 I very much doubt if you turn them down now they'd look to help you out in the summer.
I'd take it. Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Post by: stfc11 on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 20:00:37 I'd probably take the job. And I'm not sure if this is a typo, but uni term times tend to be similarish to school ones, so people tend to leave for uni septermberish (often late sept). Nope spoken to both out the people who are leaving and they said they're going end of June? Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Post by: flammableBen on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 20:07:04 Nope spoken to both out the people who are leaving and they said they're going end of June? I guess they've decided to move to wherever they're going early or something then. I'm honestly not making it up about uni term times - I suppose they could be doing a different type of course. But yeah. I'd still take it. Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Post by: larwood on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 20:09:27 Take the job.Sure its a bit of a gutter not getting to the games [as i know myself].But you could end up regretting it big time if you don't take it.
Prior to October this season i'd been to most home games since 1995/96,so i know what a wretch it is  But i enjoy doing the job and i'm sure you'd be in the same boat. Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Post by: janaage on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 20:11:59 Follow your heart man, if it feels right go for it, if not don't! Life's too short to miss out on things, money will take care of itself.
Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Post by: yeo on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 20:14:00 Depends how much you want to work there and how much you need/want a job?
If you're happy enough not working and prefer football to money then fuck it off something else will come along.. Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Post by: flammableBen on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 20:16:20 I've changed my mind and agree with Yeovil and Jan.
Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Post by: stfc11 on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 20:19:42 I'm agreeing with Yeovil and Jan! I loved the people there but not so much the job, i could visit the people and wait for the job that i know i can get next month when i pass my driving test! And i mean they must understand prior commitments with football, and would still be happy to offer me the job in June if i wanted it because i'd be all trained up right?!
Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Post by: oxford_fan on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 20:22:23 take it - probably won't be too hard to worm your way from weekend shifts to mid-week once you're in.
Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Post by: flammableBen on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 20:23:59 I wouldn't rely on there being a job for you in June. They might get other people who apply who say they're willing to work weekends during the football season.

Post by: stfc11 on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 20:29:04 That's a good point. But the weekday staff only have to work one day in the weekend, and they were happy enough with me doing Sunday's when i was there over Christmas. And if they don't offer it to me in June, then maybe it wasn't meant to be?! The thing is, if it ended up just being weekends as soon as i found a weekday job i'd leave it anyway, so is it worth it?!
Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Post by: flammableBen on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 20:33:40 Probably not.
Turn the job down! (Unless they offer it to you not working Saturdays of course). Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Post by: janaage on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 20:36:06 You really don't sound interested in it mate, is it worth taking it, being pissed off, quitting, and then really burning your bridges?
Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Post by: yeo on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 20:36:44 Nope, all work is shit.. avoid it as long as possible.
Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Post by: yeo on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 20:37:57 hahaha That sounds like the voices in Flammables head.
Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Post by: flammableBen on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 20:41:06 Far too reasoned.
Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Post by: axs on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 20:45:25 Surely just ask them if you can not work Saturday's and whether you can have the midweek job when it is available, if they say yes take it,, if not then don't.
Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Post by: Crozzer on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, 22:09:17 Any talent working there, should be a consideration. Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Post by: swindon_chick on Thursday, March 19, 2009, 07:06:17 Take it and try and delay your start date? If they are interviewing they may havea few weeks of interviewing left.... or try and work your hours around the football? Do like 8-2 on a Saturday or something?
Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Post by: sheepshagger on Thursday, March 19, 2009, 08:23:00 Eh ?
Fuck the job ! Football is more important than jobs, women, and just about everything else !!! It's not even a discussion point :) Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Post by: Sippo on Thursday, March 19, 2009, 08:52:46 Take the job, you don't knwo you'll get one in the summer
Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Post by: STFC4LIFE on Thursday, March 19, 2009, 09:16:04 I would take the job.
What are there, 4 home games left? One this Saturday, which you should make so that leaves three, then just do a bit of shift swapping for the final three home games. I had hardly missed a home game since I had been going untill this season, I decided to play football instead. I don't regret it at all. Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Title: Re: Job Dilemma! Post by: stfc11 on Thursday, March 19, 2009, 16:07:04 Went for the interview and they said if i get the job i can just do Sunday's and if they need an extra Saturday person they'll ask in advance and see if Swindon are at home or not! So it should all work out ok, thanks for the advice everyone.
