Title: Morcambe could be the way forward Post by: Rustle on Monday, March 9, 2009, 14:18:31 I've just read an interesting article about safe standing area's to be introduced, this concept looks a good idea and maybe a way forward for bringing atmosphere's back into the ground's.
with the proposed barrier's i can't see how a crush could appear especially if you make matchday's ticket only, but can still buy ticket's on the day. http://www.fsf.org.uk/news/Morecambe-to-introduce-safe-standing-at-new-stadium.php Title: Re: Morcambe could be the way forward Post by: DV on Monday, March 9, 2009, 14:28:03 Unless the standing area equates to a pretty hefty drop in ticket prices I dont think it will make much difference.
I suppose people could all go stand next to each other but they could do that in an all seater stand anyway if they wanted to. In my view the only way to improve attendances and atmosphere in the grounds is to have a winning, successful team out on the pitch. VD, do you now look like the goth guy from the IT crowd? thats how i imagine you during your (increasingly) depressing rants... Title: Re: Morcambe could be the way forward Post by: DV on Monday, March 9, 2009, 14:46:56 I have no idea who the goth guy is, or what the IT crowd is...
....so I cant possibly answer that Although I fail to see how that post was depressing? The crowd are more likely to cheer and sing if the team are doing well. The armchair fans are more likely to go and watch their local team if they are winning games. Its not depressing, its common bloody sense... Title: Re: Morcambe could be the way forward Post by: Leggett on Monday, March 9, 2009, 14:49:13 all your posts are just a bit glum, its getting old!
p.s if Morcambe arent expecting to get into their new stadium until 20010/11 the standing issue might have been resolved by then... Title: Re: Morcambe could be the way forward Post by: Simon Pieman on Monday, March 9, 2009, 15:00:44 You mean the guy that Noel Fielding plays?
Title: Re: Morcambe could be the way forward Post by: Leggett on Monday, March 9, 2009, 15:38:08 Yes indeedy, but with shorter hair and a scruffy beard...
Title: Re: Morcambe could be the way forward Post by: Simon Pieman on Monday, March 9, 2009, 15:40:15 I've just remembered the characters name is Richmond.
I'm sure google images will provide you with amusement. Title: Re: Morcambe could be the way forward Post by: axs on Monday, March 9, 2009, 18:36:48 I'd love a proper standing area, people are more inclined to sing when standing and are also louder and more gesticulative.
It also means you don't rape your kneecaps when you score. Title: Re: Morcambe could be the way forward Post by: reeves4england on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, 23:38:47 I think that kind of thing is the way forward (safe standing, not knee cap rape). They have it in Germany (and quite possibly loads of other places for all I know) and it seems like a great idea to me
Title: Re: Morcambe could be the way forward Post by: jonny72 on Thursday, March 12, 2009, 00:03:29 Bollocks to standing, seats are great as your legs don't get tired.
On a related note, those people that insist on standing in seating parts of a ground are complete arseholes. I normally go to matches with my dad who has problems standing for long periods, so what is he supposed to do? You pay for a seat and then some fucking arsehole insists on standing and totally ruins the game for you. Title: Re: Morcambe could be the way forward Post by: RobertT on Thursday, March 12, 2009, 00:12:54 Having safe standing would ensure those that choose to stand would have a place to do so without having to be arseholes.

Title: Re: Morcambe could be the way forward Post by: Simon Pieman on Thursday, March 12, 2009, 09:54:06 What stand do you go in? People stand in the Town End but if you go in the bit near the Arkells people don't and it's usually pretty empty. I can't speak for the other stands but I wasn't aware people stand in them.

How long does it take to build a new stadium in a recession?!?!?! Title: Re: Morcambe could be the way forward Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Thursday, March 12, 2009, 10:22:49 we did use to stand on the back row of the DRS towards the townend, however since xmas the club has planted 2 stewards up there and has told us all in no uncertain terms to sit down.
I find this strange to be honest, we can all stand up and chat at half time the stewards dont tellus to sit down then? Last week against Cheltenham we had a corner with a minute to go, I was stood up singing come on you reds and the steward told me to sit down!!! I told him to fuck off but this is now getting to middlesborough proportions! Title: Re: Morcambe could be the way forward Post by: RobertT on Thursday, March 12, 2009, 12:13:27 It's not the stewards fault, they just try and enforce the FLA rules governing football matches. You can stand up in the stand for any other sport if it is played at the CG, or any other entertainment that may take place, the rules only exist for football. The FLA is not shy about admitting this is because they think we all cause trouble. They also use some odd idea of it being a H&S risk if we were to fall forward, which you clearly would not do at any other type of event. Falling forward is entirely a disease afflicting football fans.
