Agreed-I used to tune in but its unlistenable now Title: Re: cox being talked about on talk sport Post by: kaufman on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, 21:50:18 Did not listen to all of it, but Ian Wright brought up seeing cox on the football round up show when cox talked about "not being ready to move just yet" and he saw the goals against walsall.
Wright started a discussion about plenty of lower league players in league 1 and below that who have great technical ability. He mentioned how cox could easily and should be given the chance to be signed by a premier league club (he used villa as an example) Adrian Durham had not seen the goal so they brought it up on screen and Durham was speechless at the quality of it. They then found out about the fernabache goal and could not believe that he had done nearly the same thing twice. Only heard one swindon caller as they were mostly texts who just said he was "pure class" Reading fan text in to point out that Wright was wrong thinking Reading had released him and that they has a big sell on and got a couple of hundred thousand pounds for him. Loads of "we love cox" jokes throughout the show but Wrighty genuinely Thought cox is the best prospect he has seen in years on the basis of those goals. All adds to his price tag and It got everyone checking out the goals he's scored by the sounds of it. For once it's nice to have a bit of coverage on a striker which can only help us if a club does come in for him. Of course this could mean that defenders will now mark him more out of the game....who knows hope thats helps Title: Re: cox being talked about on talk sport Post by: Spencer_White on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, 22:57:22 There is the goal at Scunthorpe as well.
And his all round work ethic/strength/effort is spot. He is a £1.5million player in my eyes. Title: Re: cox being talked about on talk sport Post by: michael on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, 23:10:26 As my friend says, not only is he a great goalscorer, but he scores great goals.
Also, away from the warmth of the forum I myself have likened him to a young Paul Dickov. Title: Re: cox being talked about on talk sport Post by: Spencer_White on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, 23:42:50 Paul Dickov was shit for years then had a purple patch about 8 years ago for Man City.
Mainly by being a dirty determined little bastard. Title: Re: cox being talked about on talk sport Post by: jonny72 on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, 23:57:29 Its his work rate that impresses me the most, I can't remember a forward at Swindon working as hard as he does. He's always chasing the keeper and making runs, plus dropping back to find space and get the ball. Except maybe he drops back a bit too much.
I'm surprised one of the Premiership teams near the bottom didn't take a punt on him. Even a couple of million would have been worth the risk for someone who could potentially save them from the drop. Title: Re: cox being talked about on talk sport Post by: THE FLASH on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, 10:37:55 His headed miss last night was woeful.....
Title: Re: cox being talked about on talk sport Post by: Dozno9 on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, 12:48:25 His headed miss last night was woeful..... That's why no-one has taken a punt on him. He is a very good League One player at the moment and nothing more, it took SSP 3 seasons and over 70 goals to get a move away. He certainly has the potential to become a very good player but lacks certain qualities at the moment, but then he is only 21. Title: Re: cox being talked about on talk sport Post by: Kinky Tom on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, 13:02:17 As my friend says, not only is he a great goalscorer, but he scores great goals. Also, away from the warmth of the forum I myself have likened him to a young Paul Dickov. I've said before he reminds me of a half-way house between Robbie Keane and Dickov actually. Title: Re: cox being talked about on talk sport Post by: Batch on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, 18:42:40 Oooooh Coxy talked about on Talksport again! Clarification from Reading chief scout that they sold him, not released, and they have a sell on and let him go because of a striker surpless at the time. Wow.
To be fair he is saying Cox wanted first team footy and that if they had kept him he wouldn't have progressed as he had . They did want to keep him, but he really wanted to go! Apparently there is a lot of interest in him. Inevitable I suppose. Title: Re: cox being talked about on talk sport Post by: michael on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, 20:31:40 Ian Wright blowing smoke up Coxy's arse:
"It [the Walsall goal] was probably one of the the greatest goals I have ever seen. Anyone who can finish so instinctively with that kind of touch is destined for great things. Simon Cox has definitely got a higher level or two in him and all he probably needs is to sharpen up fitness-wise to cope with the extra physical demands. Scouts will already have their eye on him because that sort of ability is rare and I believe he is on the road to greatness. I would have given anything to have had the sort of technical ability to score a goal like that." Simon Cox Cox Cox. Title: Re: cox being talked about on talk sport Post by: Rich Pullen on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, 20:34:14 When we signed Cox, Reading didn't look like a relegation cert - he'd have probably got a few games for them this season had he stayed.
Title: Re: cox being talked about on talk sport Post by: janaage on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, 20:41:08 garry parker and the forest scout were there again last night.
Title: Re: cox being talked about on talk sport Post by: michael on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, 20:43:29 Yes I was told about Garry Parker too. Described as having very rodent-like features.
Is he working at Leicester now? Title: Re: cox being talked about on talk sport Post by: michael on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, 20:44:47 Wikipedia says that Garry Parker is a painter and decorator at the moment.
Maybe Nicholas Watkins has him in doing some work on the mythical second concourse in the Don Rogers Stand. Title: Re: cox being talked about on talk sport Post by: janaage on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, 21:10:47 He may well be a painter and decorator but he was there with the geezer in the Forest jacket and clip board on sat and last night.
I was told by one of the members of the cg staff that there were 30 odd scouts there on Saturday (although some were there to watch Scunnie). Title: Re: cox being talked about on talk sport Post by: Rich Pullen on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, 21:42:21 That "Premiership Players Pre-Millionaire Wages for Everyone" aka "Where Are They Now" Skysports show had Parker on talking about his career as a decorator.

I have seen this programme quite a lot in India - Micky Hazard was on it talking about his Spurs days and his Taxi driving. |
