Title: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: herthab on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, 08:16:12 I know a lot of people have predicted a defeat, but I really think we can win this.
Millwall haven't been playing particularly well recently and are not the most attack minded, even at home. Play like we did at the crispbowl and we will come away with 3 points. Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: Ardiles on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, 08:47:24 If any of you want to recapture the football feeling you used to get as a child or a teenager, I would suggest that you simply cut the number of games you go to each season to low single figures.
For me, today is match #2 this season (the first being Leeds at home in September). I leapt of bed this morning. The last thing I said to my 8 month old son before I left the house was 'You reds!' My Swindon scarf and coffee mug are beside me on my desk. I am having some difficulty in focussing on the tasks I have set for myself before leaving the office this evening. I have a knot of tension in my stomach that is not related to indigestion. I am 36 years old and should know better. Think we'll win. Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. It just doesnt happen does it? I was well impressed with Millwall down here. Hopefully we are playing them at the right time. Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: axs on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, 08:54:46 *Misery Alert*
I still think we'll lose, we're just not lucky ebough to get 4 points in 4 days from top 6 clubs. Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: Samdy Gray on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, 08:55:38 Who said anything about going to watch the football? I'm just going to get pissed.
Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: GreenwichRed on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, 08:55:53 For some reason I had it in my head that you were an absentee tonight Ardiles. You going to the Market Porter pre match?

(Most of the others will all be there too by the sounds of it). I will aim to leave work by 6pm (or earlier if possible) so will be there no later than 6.15pm I expect.

They are available on the night for the same price as advance tickets. That's what I was told by the ticket office at the CG on SaturdayTitle: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: Rich Pullen on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, 10:01:29 I've been guessing losses alot recently and getting said predictions wrong. So, I'm continuing to say that we'll lose.
This is the first of the the hectic Tuesday/Saturday/Tuesday period that ends with Crewe on April 4th so hopefully we can start well. Also, in the last few weeks nobody has been slating (or have been holding back on slating) Byrne, Williams and Granville - which is quite good isn't it? Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: A Gent Orange on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, 10:48:36 Also, in the last few weeks nobody has been slating (or have been holding back on slating) Byrne, Williams and Granville - which is quite good isn't it? I guess that with some direction and a proper plan from Wilson, they don't need to do anything except keep the players fit - and perhaps oversee the conversition of Pat to a central midfielder. So I guess one of them must be doing something right, even if it is just following instructions! And yeah I'd be very surprised to get anything out of tonight. I'll hope we can but to an honourable defeat is all that I will expect. Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: Danjackson10 on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, 10:53:37 As has been highlighted already, if we play like we did Saturday we will do well tonight!
Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, 10:57:10 Thing is for me this is the crux of the season, we have played great 2 or 3 times this season and this is what pisses a lot of people off, we know we can play that well but then they fuck around like they dont give a shit. Hopefully Wilson is sorting this out, Im going tonight and this will be my first game since Brighton at home. Im going to the den with such low expectations, and ive decided to get totally cunted on whiskey so I imagine I will end up in Littlehampton or some godforsaken dead end seaside town at midnight
Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: suttonred on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, 10:57:32 Plus Millwall dont score many at home, so cant see many goals from them. I wonder if that tosser with the scarve will be there tonight?

I am planning to get there for about 6pm. It sounds like Sutton and Greenwich will already be there. I hope I can recognise Sutton from the last Millwall trip - but if not can Swindon fans flag me down? As I am coming from work I couldn't wear my stand out Tan Leather Jacket I will however have on a Winter Grey coat, Grey Ski/Beeney Hat, Blue-Green-Grey Striped Scarf, Jeans and Brown Shoes. That wasn't directed specifically at you Mr Cox. It was just general frustration. I knew when I posted it that it would come up directly after some one had posted "Well I would have taken a draw...etc"I would just like to point out though, that can't be happy with too many more draws, especially when we're a goal up with seconds to go. We want to win these games, the players want to prove themselves. And a loss isn't unexpected so the pressure is somehow less. Against the teams around us, how do we go about it. Go out to not lose? Go out to win? The pressure will be huge and the fixtures are coming thick and fast. The home crowd will be restless but hopefully the gravity of the situation and recent performances will lift us to support the team. Hope Greer isn't out too long. I'd rather we conceded in the 58th minute or something and get a draw - that must be the at least the fifth 85-90 goal we've conceded that has resulted in a draw. It's not really luck though....since the introduction of a greater numbers of subs, more late goals get scored...you've either to get well out in front or have some strategy to counter the effect of fresh forwards. I think we've only managed to get more than a goal up on the road twice this season, screwing up royally at HPool....but at Orient, the 2-0 goal lead was sufficient to see off their inevitable late goal. We've also conceded late goals in 3 of our 4 home wins, but again had 2 goal cushions. Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Fuck off. Yours, r4e We played well tonight. Not quite the same as Saturday but we were still very organised and looked to play football the right way. Brez made a couple of decent saves but after going 1-0 up we weren;t threatened all that often. Their goal was a cracker and there's not much you can do to stop those - certainly hard to blame any individual. I wish people would get a sense of perspective - we've got 3 points from 3 very tough away games. Okay we need wins but against these teams? No. We need to start winning some home games, if we ever play any, and we'll be fine. I'm really not worried about relegation at all after the last few days Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: juddie on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, 23:34:47 what R4E said.

Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: Crozzer on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 00:32:01 If we were a play-off team, points won away at Oldham, Leicester and Millwall would be quite acceptable. Now for Scunthorpe at home. Post by: suttonred on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 00:33:18 I'v read one page of bleating basically, from people who probably didnt go to either tonight or leicester, we drew both 1-1 and basically look fucking solid, bar their wonder goal tonight i didn't think they looked like scoring, no way will we go down. And as for Millwall " no one likes us"? "no one can hear us more like" worst home support i've heard in years.
Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: axs on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 00:36:18 I really wanted to start singing 'we like you millwall, we do'.
Game was good, some quality stuff out there today and Brez was on form, superb save just before their goal. Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: Ironside on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 00:41:56 The point about late goals being conceded needs to addressed though.
Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: axs on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 00:42:47 Yes, we just defended deeper and deeper as the second half progressed until eventually we didn't get out of our own half any more.
Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: suttonred on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 00:47:21 The point about late goals being conceded needs to addressed though. You're right, but no one would have stopped that goal tonight, out of nowhere, but you could sense it was coming, somehow we need to get a 2nd to kill teams off, or a 3rd ala walsall!Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: Ironside on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 00:49:08 yes axs, concentration through to final whistle and as Wilson said the other day, a little bit more composure to pick out a pass when we have the ball in defensive positions, then these draws turn into wins and we look towards the playoffs (in another season).
Wilson's impact has been very positive so far. Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: Ironside on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 00:50:17 You're right, but no one would have stopped that goal tonight, out of nowhere, but you could sense it was coming, somehow we need to get a 2nd to kill teams off, or a 3rd ala walsall! It was the dodgy free kick before that gave them the chance. Great finish though and I'm sure Brez saved a similar one earlier. Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: suttonred on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 00:54:55 He did, about 10 mins before, but 3 brez's wouldn't have stopped their goal, normally they're once in a lifetime, for us once every 3 games it seems.
Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: deltaincline on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 01:26:31 I can't understand the negative shit after we've gained valuable points at places where we would have been dicked under Malpas and Byrne.
Wilson has performed fucking miracles in a couple of weeks. He's sorted out the defence by bringing in Greer and Vincent (good timing was on his side with Vincent, granted) and he's had the nuts to choose players he thinks will do a job for us in positions that none of us clever forum cunts had thought about, let alone predicted. I bet Fitton and the rest of the board are sleeping better at the moment anyway;D Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: THE FLASH on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 01:30:06 Got in at 1am.............really enjoyed the game....only a wonder goal spoiled it.
Positive about everything except Macnamee coming on.......cost us dearly...... i feel confident and by the looks of it, so do the team. Credit to Wilson for turning HMS Malpas around. Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: DV on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 01:31:17 Of course being a clever forum cunt I posted about playing Amankwaah ahead of Jack Smith at the start of the season ;)
Would have never gone with Pat Kanyuka in midfield though!!!!!!!! Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: Batch on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 08:35:47 I'v read one page of bleating basically, from people who probably didnt go to either tonight or leicester No. you've read one page of disappointment at being so close to 4 extra points that would have pulled us away from the bottom. Nobody is arguing that the performances have been anything less than superb, against very good teams, and that if we play like that we will be fine. But we are too close to the dotted line today and people are still nervous. Bring on the lower half teams and we'll know the answer one way or t'other. Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: herthab on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 08:40:30 Another good performance, bit disappointed to get just 1 point but their goal was unstoppable.
Poor atmosphere, although there was a few of us at the back giving it a go. Millwall support is shit, hardly heard them all game, apart from the jazz hand chant a couple of times. Quite enjoyed watching Sam and the ticket inspector playing hide and seek on the train home.. Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: Ardiles on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 08:43:02 A great night out last night, spoiled only by a late equaliser that no keeper could have got near. Left the ground feeling quite torn. One on hand, we're letting valuable points slip - but on the other, we played as a team last night. The thing that struck me more than anything else was the quality of our play in midfield...neat passing, and we were winning most of the 50/50 balls. And Brez was solid.
One of my friends summed up the situation quite well on the way back. 'If we're not careful, we might get relegated by accident.' Frustrating that we're still in the scrap, but there's hope. Excellent turn out in the Market Porter before the game. For anyone who frequents MOS, I can confirm that Kingston Robin does exist. Yes, it's true. Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Adver reckon Greer and Kanu-Robson should be fit for Saturday. Bit early to tell I reckon. Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: suttonred on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 08:47:49 I'm just hoping Sussex's dog has hi tailed it out of town!

Post by: flammableBen on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 08:56:05 I'v read one page of bleating basically, from people who probably didnt go to either tonight or leicester, Oh god. People who went claiming we should be more positive. They just want to make out they're special because they witnessed the game first hand. For what it's worth I've never noticed any correlation between the eventual accuracy of insight into what needs to be done on the basis of performance and away game attendance, if there is one it's certainly more of an inverse relationship - the man who's willing to travel to Tuesday night away games is often capable of deluding himself the most. Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: larwood on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 09:02:36 Had a good day out in the big smoke.Saw the Elgin marbles and a some lovely tapestries.Ate some great food and sat in a fab pub watching the cricket. Then went to the game.
Was impressed.Haven't seen us since Walsall at home, and we've come on since then.Look a lot more solid at the back and also like we want the ball and aren't scared of it.Of course the injury time equaliser was a gutter, but i would have taken a point prior to kick off.Brez's save was amazing, fantastic to see him back to his best.Thought Millwall were poor and got a bit lucky basically. But we really can't afford all these last minute draws, happened too often this season, thrown away too many points.Really, really hoping we don't come to regret them. Saturday is going to be interesting. Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: herthab on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 09:02:46 Oh god. If you're saying those of us who went are deluding ourselves that it was a good performance, with more positives than negatives, you're wrong. If you're implying that we're probably sad twats with nothing better to do than schlep to the arse end of London on a Tuesday evening, I expect you've got a point. Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Post by: Ardiles on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, 09:03:56 Did you really meet KR, or are you now Sutton's bitch? They were both there. Sutton was wearing a big cheesy grin as if to say 'See, told you so.' But then Sutton walked in to KR and they sort of merged and there was a blinding flash of light as matter and anti-matter fused and then there was nothing. So I don't know what this proves after all. OK. I made the last bit up. Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Anyway, yeah. Bit of a gutter to concede a late equaliser like that. And if that really annoying kid ever comes and stands by me again I'm moving. Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread. Well, thats what I thought anyway. As I got on the train just after midnight I discovered £1.66 in my back pocket, where I never keep money and hence never thought to look. Title: Re: Swindon V Millwall Matchday Thread.
