Title: Weymouth FC Close To Liquidation
Post by: STFC_Gazza on Thursday, February 12, 2009, 12:48:55

As the title says. There is a do or die meeting tonight

Quote
Open Forum - Thursday 12th February 8pm
WEYMOUTH FC officials will hold a do-or-die meeting on Thursday night at the Wessex Stadium in a last chance saloon bid to save the ailing club.

Chief executive Gary Calder, director Mark Golsby, community officer Tim Davis and Weymouth Supporters’ Club chairman Ian White have organised a forum in the hope that fans, shareholders, local businesses and the wider community will turn out in force to offer their ideas and support. The meeting will start at 8pm and is open to all.

They have been in financial shit for a while, its a shame they are a very friendly club with a few ex Town players there, I wish them all the best.

I seem to remember their local derby with Dorchester would get attendances of 7000+

We should bring in Márcio dos Santos Gaia on a free then - but pass on Chris McPhee.

Not looking good for them.

Manager quit yesterday saying he cannot manage the team as there is no money and hasn't been paid and all his players will be leaving soon.

Weymouth will field their youth team for the rest of the season if the players are not paid by the 25th February. Their whole first team will walk away after issuing a 14 day notice to the club on the 25th of February as free agents.

The haven't paid anyone in 2009 and owe £300,000 to the tax man.

Me. Non-League football is great - not that I'd want Swindon to be there.

Just the same response we'd get from plastic Prem fans if we were in the same boat. In fact, pretty much what we did get from national media when we were in the same boat or close to. Nice attitude you've got there

if our club had been run properly would it have been in the shit?

so why should anyone feel sorry for a club that fucked it's self?

if our club had been run well clearly we wouldn't be in the shit but swindon fans saw the shit that was happening and did all they could to sort it out ie the turst, protestes, buying shares etc etc etc

Weymouth don't exactly have a fanbase though do they? But that doesn't mean those who follow them should be blamed for their troubles.

PaulD's statement appears to be accurate.

weymouth lost 0-9 today.

First team refused to play so the youth team went out. They are truly in the shit, Will get an embargo this week so cant bring any players in and most likely will be kicked ot of BSP and BSS into the division Chippenham Town play in I think...

I have a friend who is a Weymuff fan and they are in deep deep shit now, almost certainly will be wound up before the end of the week.

Yesterday was a debacle for them and their results will almost certainly be expunged.

So winning 9-0 away wont even go into the record books.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the only club I would wish to go bust are the franchise.  I hope Weymouth do survive, good luck to them.  There but for the grace of the Trust go us...

They'll go out of business and the fans will start a new AFC Weymouth / Weymouth Athletic starting a few divisions lower. It's a shame that it seems to be the cycle with non-league clubs battling above their weight a bit, nobody really seems to pay much attention though, even when it's clubs who've had a few years in the football league. Bye bye Halifax. Bye bye Scarborough.

Yeah and the fans knew about the strike before the bookies and were placing big bets. The bookies lost a shitload of money.  :D :D

I never understand how someone who apparantly has £300k to invest then changes their mind after finding out that the club are in more difficulty than he thought.

How would you not know that in the first place as if you were going to invest that sort of money you would do some decent research i hope, plus it's common knowledge what a mess Weymouth are in, simple internet research taking 5 minutes would have stated the debt etc.

Shame about Weymouth, they are a very friendly club with a nice stadium...by non league standards.

Could be a lot more teams folding this season.

Hopefully Charlton will start struggling soon they have had a blinding start.

Still a mess off it. To be fair, I did say in a thread about Norwich that I thought they had by far the best chance of bouncing back up!

But it could be shit or bust for them.
