Title: Tony Adams Post by: alanmayes on Sunday, February 8, 2009, 23:24:16 BBC Sport and other news agency's reporting that Tony Adams has been sacked as Portsmouth manager.
Announcement to be made on monday morning.Front runners for the job include Avram Grant and Alan Curbishley. Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: Bushey Boy on Sunday, February 8, 2009, 23:25:12 Shame, a lot of time for Adams
Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: reeves4england on Sunday, February 8, 2009, 23:26:54 MOTD2 have said he's going too. Obviously I realise that is also a part of the BBC
Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: Bedford Red on Sunday, February 8, 2009, 23:28:42 I think it's a shame too. They are struggling, have played well in some games though and been unlucky, although not looked too good at the back.
He's only been in charge 2 or 3 months isn't it? That's really not enough time, but i guess the board can't risk relegation because of all the money they would lose. Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: oxford_fan on Monday, February 9, 2009, 00:35:19 i think he's done a poor job. was a knee-jerk appointment and way too soon for him considering his dismal run as wycombe manager, and spell in holland (what exactly did he do there? join the feyernoord coaching team?)
2-1 up at home at fratton to liverpool and utterly bottled it. he made a weird comment about the french players being unsure about him, and distin had a shocker. they said on sky sports earlier that he has a squad which every relegation candidate would be jealours of. he can't get the best of them and they are nowhere near organised enough, the sloppy mistakes prove that. as a defender this should be the least of his worries. no passion in interviews either, though maybe he is reserving that when it comes to the press. his kick of the chair would indicate that he has it, though thats one incident and its a little too late. Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: oxford_fan on Monday, February 9, 2009, 00:49:48 belhadj for one looks decent, got to get the best out of those kind of players
Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: Batch on Monday, February 9, 2009, 07:58:27 Adams was a shit appointment for a prem club. No proven record, in fact far from it.
I thought Pompey had a good chance of going down under him. Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Monday, February 9, 2009, 08:26:34 By all accounts his half time team talks were amazing. Utter silence until the bell went then a shout of lets fucking have them. For a ex quality defender to turn distin into a nervous wreck takes some going
Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: Ardiles on Monday, February 9, 2009, 08:53:18 Like Oxford fan says - I too was very surprised when he was given the job in the first place. He obviously did well as Harry's assisitant, but he failed at Wycombe for fork's sake. Portsmouth might as well have given the job to Andy King.

Disagree to an extent I would say its a bit a harsh, that quote of that most relegation candidates would be jealous of seems very over exagerated, they have one of the worst squads in the premiership. Then take into account he had to sell Diarra and replace him with Mullins and also sell Defoe and replace him with Nugent, its laughable how much these players vary in ability. Also the mistakes from experienced pro's is crazy Crouches backpass, Distin's air shot he cant really do anything when people who you expect better of are making basic mistakes. Adams is by no means a good manager or proven but given the same playing field that Harry was with a lot of money to spend and years in charge it would have been interesting to see how he would have done. Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: Sippo on Monday, February 9, 2009, 09:56:48 Avram Grant is friendly with the new owners, who are about to take over, so will be him.
Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: Summerof69 on Monday, February 9, 2009, 10:21:19 Adams didn't have a chance, as they owner wants to sell up, and they are running out of money, that's the reason why any good offers they accepted for players, and that is a big reason why Harry left.
They are the first club in the Prem to suffer from the credit crunch, and if they get relegated this season, I can see them being the next Leeds. Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: pauld on Monday, February 9, 2009, 15:33:04 They are the first club in the Prem to suffer from the credit crunch West Ham, surely?Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: DMR on Monday, February 9, 2009, 15:51:14 Should stop the locals bleating. They all hated him down here.
Apparently since his rehab etc he's really self-righteous and a bit weird and spiritual, and the players can't stand it. Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: Arriba on Monday, February 9, 2009, 15:53:43 he was on a hiding to nothing.
Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: LucienSanchez on Monday, February 9, 2009, 16:02:37 Tony Adams is just weird... i don't think he's right in the head...
Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: THE FLASH on Monday, February 9, 2009, 16:05:18 Amazed he got the job.....ballsed it up at Wycombe.
Made me puke to hear old mate Lee Dixon saying it was now 'his time' when he was given the job. His time came at Wycombe and he blew it. At least old Incy did the biz....kept Macclesfield in the league and got the Dongs up. Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: Samdy Gray on Monday, February 9, 2009, 16:06:23 Apparently since his rehab etc he's really self-righteous and a bit weird and spiritual, and the players can't stand it. I heard that too from a retired Pompey player. They all reckon he's a right loon. Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: Matchworn Shirts on Monday, February 9, 2009, 16:37:35 A very poor manager at a club that is punching above its weight anyway
Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Monday, February 9, 2009, 17:12:28 i hate Pompey, cunts. And adams is a sanctimonius twat. They should get John Adams in, that would shake them up.
Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: Rich Pullen on Monday, February 9, 2009, 19:10:34 They should get John Adams in, that would shake them up. Seconded (ala the Continental Congress) :D Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: herthab on Monday, February 9, 2009, 19:13:10 Fuck adams, fuck pompey.
That's my incisive take on this. Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: axs on Monday, February 9, 2009, 19:18:43 Fuck adams, fuck pompey. That's my incisive take on this. Just out of interest what do you think of the French? Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: herthab on Monday, February 9, 2009, 19:20:46 Just out of interest what do you think of the French? I don't think of the french. Fuck 'em. Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: axs on Monday, February 9, 2009, 19:24:52 I don't think of the french. Fuck 'em. Just checking. Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: dell boy on Monday, February 9, 2009, 20:17:00 Adams didn't have a chance, as they owner wants to sell up, and they are running out of money, that's the reason why any good offers they accepted for players, and that is a big reason why Harry left. They are the first club in the Prem to suffer from the credit crunch, and if they get relegated this season, I can see them being the next Leeds. I agree with all of that, I feel they will go down - Adams was in the right place at the wrong time, their options were limited and he was the only option available after selling so many players. End of his career in the foreseeable future for Adams, shame. Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: Rich Pullen on Monday, February 9, 2009, 20:18:22 The question really should be "Why on earth did they appoint him in the first place?" shouldn't it?
Title: Re: Tony Adams Post by: red socks on Monday, February 9, 2009, 22:18:45 I'm gutted Adams has been sacked, his interviews with the press were fucking surreal and hilarious, I will miss them.....
