Title: Winning runs Post by: Colin Todd on Thursday, January 29, 2009, 14:28:01 When was the last time we went on a decent winning or undefeated run?
The 6 straight wins at the start of The league 2 season is the last one I recall, but even though we went up that season I dont recall an awesome run of form after the start. Prior to that I think we went 11/12 unbeaten in the league under king in the league 1 play off season until we were beaten at home park by Sturrocks Plymouth I'm trying not to think about the bad runs because there has been quite a few and its too depressing. At least we're not Charlton fans though they won their 1st game in 19 on tuesday. Title: Re: Winning runs Post by: flammableBen on Thursday, January 29, 2009, 14:49:56 King was awesome at runs, both good and bad.
I miss him. Title: Re: Winning runs Post by: oxford_fan on Thursday, January 29, 2009, 15:02:30 I thought this thread was about us.
Title: Re: Winning runs Post by: Colin Todd on Thursday, January 29, 2009, 15:13:06 Are you winning at the moment OF? Cant say I take much notice these days
I dont miss King at all. Although with Wilson going on about Bergkamp and Arsenal over trhe last few days it reminded me of King as he used to go on about Arsne wenger and Arsenal all the time. Title: Re: Winning runs Post by: overthehill on Thursday, January 29, 2009, 15:14:02 I thought this thread was about us. Runs,shits,Oxford.......yes you could be right. Title: Re: Winning runs Post by: oxford_fan on Thursday, January 29, 2009, 16:49:50 Are you winning at the moment OF? Yeah, only five wins in a row for us so far. Away to Cambridge tonight, I'd be happy with a draw. Title: Re: Winning runs Post by: Colin Todd on Thursday, January 29, 2009, 16:55:28 oh right. that must have pulled you right away from the relegation zone. :D
Title: Re: Winning runs Post by: jayohaitchenn on Thursday, January 29, 2009, 16:58:08 I just checked. The cheeky bastard scum are only 2 points off the playoffs!! If they come up I hope we get relegated.

We went 21 games unbeaten in the 85-86 season at the end, 86-87 we were unbeaten for the last 11 games, and although there were 2 defeats before that, the previous 10 games we were also unbeaten. Title: Re: Winning runs Post by: oxford_fan on Thursday, January 29, 2009, 20:20:41 oh right. that must have pulled you right away from the relegation zone. :D check the table muggins. we were never that far out of the race, even before this winning streak. 1-0 up at cambridge too. Title: Re: Winning runs Post by: Arnold.J.Rimmer on Thursday, January 29, 2009, 20:27:17 I hope Oxford get promoted. Derby games against the Brizzle teams just aren't the same.

To hell with rivalries, I'd rather we stayed up thank you! They drew tonight 1-1. Title: Re: Winning runs Post by: oxford_fan on Thursday, January 29, 2009, 22:40:11 Happy with that result.
Next up, the mighty Lewes, at home on Sunday. Title: Re: Winning runs Post by: reeves4england on Thursday, January 29, 2009, 23:59:22 check the table muggins. we were never that far out of the race, even before this winning streak. You were 12 points off the play-offs and 6 above the drop zone. That's out of the race if you ask me. Fair play for turning it around though.1-0 up at cambridge too. Title: Re: Winning runs Post by: DMR on Friday, January 30, 2009, 02:58:44 That run either side of Xmas 03/04 season was as good as I'd seen us play since 1997ish but I was quite young then.
We had an absolutely sexual team, Parkin, Mooney, Heywood, Fallon, Howard, Migz - ace. Title: Re: Winning runs Post by: Ardiles on Friday, January 30, 2009, 08:35:32 The fact that that side from 2003/04 was the highlight of the last 12 years or so just goes to show what a lean spell the club has been going through. It was a good side, I'll give you that. But I doubt I'll be telling the grandchildren about it 40 years from now (or describing it as 'sexual' (!))
Title: Re: Winning runs Post by: Colin Todd on Friday, January 30, 2009, 09:16:53 Its been said before but that run was even more remarkable considering that Hewlett was captain and Duke was the regular left back. Heywood was pretty decent for us back then but his career since indicates he's a league 2 player.
The thing about that team is it had a good blend, and some characters in it. We obviously had a cracking front 2 with Fallon to back them up later in the season, a good playmaker in migz, 2 creative players on the wing, A blend of pace and height at centre back and a thug at right back. Hewlett was rubbish but ran around a lot and did his job for the team. totally unlike what we have now. To be honest, apart from a wonder goal against shitty, I thought Fallon was dogshite that season. Touch like a rapist and a rubber chest. |
