Title: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: Simon Pieman on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 12:44:48 As the topic of atmosphere (or lack of at the CG) is hot right now and a lot of people put fans moving from the townend as a contributing factor, I thought it would be interesting to see what proportion of the TEF sits where and where they sat last year.
Answer away, add you own opinions on the matter if you wish - the poll will obviously not be able to deal with whether the move caused things directly or whether it can fix the atmosphere by another move, but it will give a clearer picture about the proportions that did move. My personal opinion is that the move did cause a lack of atmosphere to begin with but a move back will not repair it alone. I think there is also a case for getting the atmosphere going all around the ground - why should it be limited to the smallest stand? Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: herthab on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 12:49:55 A lot of it's tradition.
Traditionally, if people want to chant and sing they go in the Townend. You don't get that in the Arkells or DRS (Apart from chav corner) When I first started going it was the same, although the Shrivvy Rd was very vocal as well (being a terrace helped) The Arkells was the morgue, and still is. There's no option on your shit poll for not moved. **Bastard** Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: DV on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 12:51:42 I sat in the Don Rogers last season and I sit in the same seat this season.
I think people have moved out of the Town End and that has effected the atmosphere, however I still people are looking back on last seasons atmosphere a bit too favourable. Apart from a couple of games here and there the Town End (...and the County Ground as a whole) hasnt had a decent, loud atmosphere since Andy King was here. There are obvious expections (like the Mansfield and Walsall games) but then everyone can make the effort when you're getting promoted. Our lack of atmosphere runs deeper than 'people have moved stands' Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 13:05:15 Has anyone been to a ground with atmosphere this year.
Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: Samdy Gray on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 13:12:32 Huddersfield on Saturday.
Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 13:17:25 So 1 which had double our average attendance. Anyone would think it only happened at swindon
Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: herthab on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 13:20:18 Aldershot in the paint pot, Hereford in the league, there's been a few.
Orient was atmospheric, but only caused by the away fans :D Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: flammableBen on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 13:25:28 Am I being stupid or have you missed DRS/Arkells and vice versa?
Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: Simon Pieman on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 13:30:33 Am I being stupid or have you missed DRS/Arkells and vice versa? That argument has never come into the equation so I missed the option (accidentally). I will edit it. Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: Bogus Dave on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 15:55:38 I moved from the town end to DRS. Spookily last time i had a season ticket in the DRS we got relegated!

Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: swindonbob on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 19:09:58 Ive had season ticket last three seasons (used to just get my tickets on the day but got bored)
1st Season: Got a cheapo student priced season ticket in DRS 2nd Season: Couldn't get away with that again so moved to Townend. Got to say, although the view isn't as good, there were some brilliant games that were made better by the atmosphere (Swansea at home was quality) 3rd Season: Moved back to DRS - purely because it seemed stupid to be paying the same amount of money for either a seat in TE and DRS....so i got a ticket on the halfway line, four rows from the back. Ifs its significantly cheaper in Townend next year, ill move back again. Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: Anteater on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 19:22:21 Town End last season Town End this. Always for the tradition and atmosphere (when there is some) never the view !. Stood on the Stratton Bank and Shrivvy Rd over the years and sat in DRS/Intel too and none match the TE when packed and in full voice !
Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: Batch on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 21:28:15 Town end last season, DRS this. The atmosphere in the DRS is fucking shit. There are a few who try, but the rest can only muster a happy clapalong to Red Army.
Even if prices go down in the Town End next season I'm probably stuck in the DRS now the lad wants to come, he wouldn't see anything in the TE :( Oh well, the views better I suppose. edit. FYI 6 of us moved from TE to DRS. 4 of those don't post here. Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: michael on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 22:23:33 Atmosphere in the Town End has been poor for 2 or 3 seasons now.
In fact it has been ever since I raised my social standing by moving to the Intel stand :) Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: Simon Pieman on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 22:31:00 Hmmm, so far the results are a lot different to what I expected.

Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: Jamiesfuturewife on Friday, January 23, 2009, 13:59:52 you know what I mean - Im not typing it on here Ill get arrested or something!
Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: Simon Pieman on Friday, January 23, 2009, 14:18:58 I really honestly don't, well not in the context of changing stands anyway.
Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: Jamiesfuturewife on Friday, January 23, 2009, 14:21:13 Its not really in the context of changing stands
Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: Simon Pieman on Friday, January 23, 2009, 14:25:43 You used to blag student tickets? Shame on you.
Still, you'll be able to go OAP soon. Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: Jamiesfuturewife on Friday, January 23, 2009, 14:32:10 so cruel :nonono:
Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: Simon Pieman on Saturday, January 24, 2009, 15:01:05 I think this just highlights that the move from the town end to other stands hasn't really been the cause for the lack of atmosphere.
Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: axs on Saturday, January 24, 2009, 15:29:35 ...amongst TEF voters.
Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: Simon Pieman on Saturday, January 24, 2009, 15:46:03 Yes.
I'd say my sample size was fairer than some of those surveys they use on advertisements though. Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: axs on Saturday, January 24, 2009, 17:48:19 And I wouldn't disagree with you on that.
Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: dell boy on Saturday, January 24, 2009, 18:27:49 I think the atmosphere has dropped more this season than last year, a reason could be we have 2,000ish newer fans who brought season tickets at knockdown prices, we have also probably lost a lot of the old faithful, who went missing midway through last season.
The Town End is a lot quieter than last season as well, the major fact being it is never more than half full. Imo there seems to be a lot more ladies at match days these days, dont think they sing as much as your matchday drunken man fan does. Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: axs on Saturday, January 24, 2009, 18:29:55 Imo there seems to be a lot more ladies at match days these days, dont think they sing as much as your matchday drunken man fan does. Even if they did they are likely to be a bit quieter. You used to get singing right down TE2 just to the right of the goal as you face the stand but that has pretty much disappeared now. Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: Spencer_White on Saturday, January 24, 2009, 19:00:33 Ah well. It will be back to a proper hardcore 5,000 again next season, after the shite they have served up the last 9 months. So we can all look forward to that (sigh!).
Title: Re: Did you change stands from last year? Post by: Simon Pieman on Saturday, January 24, 2009, 19:23:58 I think the problem is an overall reliance on the town end to make some noise. A few hundred have gone to other stands, but a lot pay on the day and don't turn up too.
There's been a lack of effort all over the ground, town end included. I'm just not convinced more numbers with the same amount of effort would create much more noise. |
