Title: Tonights games Post by: dell boy on Tuesday, January 20, 2009, 20:03:50 Leyton Orient 1-0 up, move down one place Swindon.
No game next week, oh dear oh dear. Sing up for the Southend, Sing up for the Southend. Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: dell boy on Tuesday, January 20, 2009, 20:05:58 All week I've seen German sides having friendly matches against other European sides who shut down over the January period.
Why do they have a winter shut down if they want to play friendlies? Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Ironside on Tuesday, January 20, 2009, 20:08:09 Gives 'em a chance to try out a few things in a non-competetive game, sort out any issues from the first half of the season and possibly bed in any new signings?

Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Rich Pullen on Tuesday, January 20, 2009, 22:02:18 Southend in the 96th minute Probably the best result for us as Southend can be dragged into this scrap. Game on. Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Rich Pullen on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 21:20:48 Spurs have been shit. I hope they lose.
Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: LucienSanchez on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 21:29:17 So do i... they have no creativity, no composure, and no clue. I can honestly see the Yids going down judging by the majority of their performances this year
Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Rich Pullen on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 21:33:17 Goooooooooooooal. 3-0 Burnley.
Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Batch on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 21:33:30 3-0.
Get In! And we thought both our keepers were dodgy. Snigger. Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Batch on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 21:39:07 Extra time it is
Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: janaage on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 21:41:29 The chinks may not be too excited on the commentary I'm watchin on line, but the Burnley fans are "4-1 and you fucked it up"!!

Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Rich Pullen on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 22:16:01 It took 117 minutes for Spurs to play football.
Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Chubbs on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 22:19:13 feel sorry for burnley, you can see the whole squad is worn out, spurs tiped them on fitness, burnley just didn't have the energy.
Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: DV on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 22:19:21 I wish we were good and did well in the cups.
Must be what 14 years since we had a cup fun. Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Rich Pullen on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 22:20:05 I wish we were good and did well in the cups. Must be what 14 years since we had a cup fun. 95/96 with Southampton I guess. Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: flammableBen on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 22:22:55 We never got past our starting 3rd round in our div1 years between 96-2000 did we?
Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Chubbs on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 22:25:13 1995 league cup semifinal against bolton?

Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Rich Pullen on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 22:27:40 1995 league cup semifinal against bolton? Twas 94/95 That was heartbreaking :( Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: RobertT on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 22:28:02 got a really good draw that year
Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Batch on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 22:32:22 I guess we can empathise with Burnley in snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. That Leeds game still hurts.
In many ways Burnley humiliated Spurs, but it really doesn't matter how well they played they still aren't going to Wembley. Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: DV on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 22:32:28 the last proper cup run I thought of was Bolton in 95. Semi Finals :(
I suppose the Southampton one was a bit of a run.... Anything less just isnt really enough of run for it to bare any lasting memory. Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Rich Pullen on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 22:35:41 I wonder if poor ol' Ben Alnwick will never play for Tott-ing-ham again.
Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: swindonbob on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 22:36:13 It was one of those games that started off slow, but during the second half i started full on supporting Burnley, cheering when they scored and i was gutted when they conceded.
It makes me just think what it would be like for us to be in that situation Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: axs on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 23:12:00 I wish we were good and did well in the cups. Must be what 14 years since we had a cup fun. You who always slags off cup games as pointless? Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: DV on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 23:18:46 me because they are, unless you you're good enough to do well in them.
we're a shit L1 club and we are never going to get far in the FA or League Cup so why even bother. If we were a decent team, say top 6 in the Championship like Burnley are I'd love a good cup getting further and further and actually starting to believe but we're too shit to do it Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: axs on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 23:20:58 me because they are, unless you you're good enough to do well in them. we're a shit L1 club and we are never going to get far in the FA or League Cup so why even bother. Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: flammableBen on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 23:25:57 In the FA Cup, there's no reason as a league one club we shouldn't make a decent effort to get to the third round, where the draw lottery has a reasonable chance of giving you a pay out or reasonably winnable game.
Yeah you're not likely to get a third round jackpot against one of the big 4, but even a reasonably sized championship club away is still a welcome financial boost. You might as well take the we're shit so why bother attitude to the league too. Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: DV on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 23:29:05 Thanks, that cheered me up. Plus most of my 'cup' hate is towards the piss poor paint pot which really is a waste of time. Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Batch on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 23:31:13 Plus most of my 'cup' hate is towards the piss poor paint pot which really is a waste of time. Unless you get to Wembley, when financial gain alone makes it worthwhile. And it is our only realistic chance of playing at Wembley. Hardly a waste of time. Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: DV on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 23:33:30 Realistic chance of getting to Wembley, pull the other one Batch.
Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: flammableBen on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 23:51:22 As a struggling 3rd tier football club there's lots of things we haven't got realistic chances of, but you don't just not bother. We still bother turning up away to a team playing better than us, and hopefully with a better attitude than that of "meh, we're probably lose anyway".
Yeah the Auto LDV Paint Trophey isn't the most illustrious competition in world football, but the reward for getting to the final is pretty good, especially as at this level you won't have to play anybody from a league above. I wouldn't expect us to put a full strength side out for it, but the what's the point attitude seems pretty defeatist. Go and eat some cake. Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Batch on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 00:17:50 Realistic chance of getting to Wembley, pull the other one Batch. You don't think we could win it? Of course we could. Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: nochee on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 00:22:21 Really?
Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Batch on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 08:45:21 Really. Even the current squad got within a few games. It is doable provided we take it seriously.
Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Bogus Dave on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 09:20:57 Luton and brighton are in the area final. Says it all
Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: DV on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 12:30:12 You don't think we could win it? Of course we could. no. Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: jayohaitchenn on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 14:44:33 DV you can be such a dick at times. Are you saying you don't think we could beat Brighton or Luton?
What about next year? The year after? Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: DV on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 14:53:11 Yes, I am saying I dont think we could beat Brighton or Luton.
Seen as we've already lost to Brighton twice this season, I'd say my comments were fairly accurate. I dont know about next year because I dont know what players we will have or what players they will have but I can tell you we wont win the piss poor paint pot next season! Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Colin Todd on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 14:54:11 fact?
Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: jayohaitchenn on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 17:01:55 It's a shame you didn't put a "else i'll post my balls" because I would have held you to that!
Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 17:59:51 Luton and brighton are in the area final. Says it all No it should be Southern area to say it all...just saying area final does leave a certain ambiguity...don't forget we played Boston in the southern area a couple of years back, while Hereford played in the northern area. Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Spencer_White on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 19:05:08 Plus most of my 'cup' hate is towards the piss poor paint pot which really is a waste of time. Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: pumbaa on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 21:07:49 Plus most of my 'cup' hate is towards the piss poor paint pot which really is a waste of time. So Dan, if (and its a big if) we ever got to Wembley in the JPT, you wouldn't bother to go as its a waste of time? Somehow with your passion for STFC, I think not. I know you think the JPT is a wate of time, but even you can appreciate it IS our only realistic chance of reaching a knock-out cup final. Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Rich Pullen on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 21:35:59 JPT is okay - don't know why people get so worked up about it. There's been a Football League Trophy for years - we should be used to it and wanting to win it by now, right?
Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: DV on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 22:06:01 So Dan, if (and its a big if) we ever got to Wembley in the JPT, you wouldn't bother to go as its a waste of time? I'd go to see Wembley as I havent been to the new one. The result really wouldnt bothered me, its the piss poor paint pot. Decent teams dont even enter it. Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Simon Pieman on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 23:12:03 A lot of the teams which have won the football league trophy are now in the upper reached of the Championship or in the Prem.

And if we won it you wouldn't be happy? Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: stfctownenda on Friday, January 23, 2009, 00:01:53 Has anyone not ever entered?

If we happen to win it I wouldnt exactly go around boasting that I supported Swindon Town Johnstones Paint Trophy Winners 2010 I'd glady forget the thing and get promoted out of this god awful division. Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Rich Pullen on Friday, January 23, 2009, 00:14:08 If we happen to win it I wouldnt exactly go around boasting that I supported Swindon Town Johnstones Paint Trophy Winners 2010 I'd glady forget the thing and get promoted out of this god awful division. Don't think anyone would waltz the streets boasting, but we'd all be happy even if it's secretly :) I thought that a year in the 4th tier would leave most of us content with League One life for a while. Anyway, we contribute to this division more than our fair share of god awfulness. Boo. Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Simon Pieman on Friday, January 23, 2009, 22:41:34 I forgot that Derby v Forest was today. Unfortunately I was sat near one of the Forest fans who couldn't keep time with the other lads down the other end of the train.
Also, their 'keep the red flag flying high' song version is fucking shit. Title: Re: Tonights games Post by: Simon Pieman on Friday, January 23, 2009, 22:43:14 Oh and to add to the debate:
I want to win it all, including the Champions League. Winning is good, losing is not. Getting to knock out cup finals is exciting. |
