Title: India Post by: Bob's Orange on Friday, January 16, 2009, 09:00:25 Well I am off to Bangalore to work for almost 4 months so I will probably not be frequenting the Townend as much as in the past, however I will be relying on you to keep me reliably informed about the town as I should 'fingers crossed' be able to check what is going on at work!

Title: Re: India Post by: Bob's Orange on Friday, January 16, 2009, 11:04:06 Thanks folks, looking forward to it!!
Stupid question time. If my dad texts my UK sim card, he won't get charged extra with me being in India? I am pretty sure this isn't the case. He is going to text me the Town defeat score tomorrow. Title: Re: India Post by: Batch on Friday, January 16, 2009, 11:13:33 That should be fine, it's normally the person roaming that picks up the international leg charges.
I doubt there is extra charge for receiving texts anyway (incoming on orange are free). But it might be costly for you to send them. Title: Re: India Post by: Samdy Gray on Friday, January 16, 2009, 11:30:49 Watch out for Tigers!
Title: Re: India Post by: normy on Friday, January 16, 2009, 11:37:34 Watch out for a Bangalore torpedo, designed in 1912 to blast through minefields, and modern designs still used today

I am going to buy an Indian Sim anyway and apparently the credit lasts for ages as calling home is cheap as chips although I will be using the office phone more often than not. But then be aware all bets are off. In Canada (i.e. using their SIM) you get charged for receiving texts. Title: Re: India Post by: BANGKOK RED on Friday, January 16, 2009, 12:56:53 Good luck BO.
I hope to add India to my countries that I have been list to some day. A tip from people I have met both Western and Indian: DO NOT give to beggars, if you do then they will stalk you constantly for more. Title: Re: India Post by: ron dodgers on Friday, January 16, 2009, 13:07:48 weather looks quite nice
Title: Re: India Post by: Bob's Orange on Friday, January 16, 2009, 14:32:20 weather looks quite nice indeed! 26 degrees and sun for the next week or so! Arrive early Sunday morning so I guess i'll have to get acclimatised to the pool!! We have a thing called Sametime at work which is like MSN messenger and already the Indian guys we are going to be working with are messaging me wishing me a safe flight and that they are honoured to have us over and stuff, they are so friendly! Title: Re: India Post by: Bob's Orange on Thursday, March 19, 2009, 10:34:23 Just booked up flights and hotel to Delhi for next weekend.
Obviously going to see the Taj Mahal but is there anything else I should try and see whilst I am up in the North? Title: Re: India Post by: Forza_Swindon on Thursday, March 19, 2009, 10:41:54 The Nehru Planetarium and the Lotus Temple in New Delhi are worth a visit, as is the Pink Palace in Jaipur if you're over that way.

Colin Calderwood maybe, but not Wise. Title: Re: India Post by: overthehill on Thursday, March 19, 2009, 11:12:59 You find Dennis Wise up here! Colin Calderwood maybe, but not Wise. It did say "try to see" Title: Re: India Post by: Bob's Orange on Monday, March 30, 2009, 08:50:14 Back from Delhi this morning - absolutely knackered today after a weekend of early mornings!!
Have to say I think I prefer Bangalore to Delhi, definately more stray dogs and beggers in Delhi. Saw the Lotus temple which was very impressive (according to Wiki more people visit this place in a year than the Taj Mahal and the Eiffel Tower) and also the India Gate, the parliament and president buildings and a couple of temples which were nice enough. The 4 hour drive to Agra is an eye opener - 20 people travelling on one auto rickshaw not uncommon!! pretty sure we saw a dead body on the way home, although he could have been having a nap! The Taj is a must see - spectacular buiilding(s) and got a few pictures in my Town shirt in front of it like a total English tourist!!
