Title: For our resident TEF Gerries
Post by: janaage on Thursday, January 15, 2009, 22:58:14
My three favourite german songs.  All from years ago, they're hardly musical master pieces, but I liked them (and still do  :-[ ),  dunno why.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCrmkP_HJEQ  (mo-do - eins zewi politzei)

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ChPV9ua6HII&feature=related (Mark Oh - Tears don't lie)

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=NXqEMuXGK08 (Rammstein - sonne)

(think that's in the right order)

Are there anymore I should be putting on to my "foreign favourite" section on my ipod?

I can't see these as i'm at work, but if Winds of Change by the Scorpions isn't up there, i'll be disappointed...

Sorry LS it wasn't on there, although as a pretty decent whistler myself, it is one of my favourite tunes.  I was going for german speaking, although on reflection the Mark Oh song is based on When I Child is born, so I s'pose I could have included it!

While visiting an old girlfriend seconded by her company to Hamburg many years ago, I developed quite an attachment to Schlager Music...particularly that of Howard Carpendale.  Listen to a few tracks, and you'll understand why Eurovision is taken so seriously on mainland Europe.

I also managed to drag the aforementioned girlfriend to a St Pauli game (German 2nd Division) while I was there.  They were playing VFL Bochum - and I can honestly say it was one of the best 0-0 draws I've ever seen.

Can, Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk.

That's pretty much all the German pop music you need to know surely.

I know he was Austrian, not German, but Falco's 'Rock me Amadeus' was and is one of my all time favourites.  He died tragically young.  (Falco, that is, not Mozart.)

(Well, actually Mozart did as well, but that's another story.)

You pinched (as in stole) my heart

It's a (pretty shit) play on the German verb schnappen which has several different meanings
