Title: Broken Laptop query Post by: Bob's Orange on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, 11:39:40 Last night I managed to knock my laptop from my wee table onto the tiled floor (we had a power cut and I tripped over the battery cable so I do have an excuse!). Now when I turn the laptop on, all that happens is the curser thing _ flashes and the thing doesn't boot up.
Anyone have any idea of the problem and if this is an easy fix? I am going to India on Saturday so figured that the easiest thing would be to get it fixed over there. Title: Re: Broken Laptop query Post by: Samdy Gray on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, 12:11:44 It powers on so that's a good sign.
Something like the RAM may have come unseated when you knocked it which would cause the laptop not to boot. So I guess I just take the keyboard off and see if anything is out of place then? I am not very DIY or techincally minded so I hope I don't make the fucker worse!! Fing the manual for your laptop online. It will tell you where it is and how to get to it. Otherwise you'll start trying to pull the incorrect panel off the laptop, get Bushey Boy's plumber to help out and realise it was the other panel all along. Ok, will have a look at the thing tonight and see if I can figure it out! I guess it will be fairly obvious if the RAM or something else has become dislodged? Title: Re: Broken Laptop query Post by: Batch on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, 14:15:00 Usually, but it's worth pushing it down into the slot just in case.
Title: Re: Broken Laptop query Post by: Peter Venkman on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, 14:24:49 Not always obvious but just undo every cover and unplug everything and plug it all back in again afterwards....usually works.
Title: Re: Broken Laptop query Post by: Bob's Orange on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, 14:46:49 I'll give it a bash, then I'll try and fix the laptop!
Many thanks for all your help. And if your pc can take 2gb sticks as most lappys...unless they are pricey ones...can only take 2 slots and a lot of those are 1gb max capacity slots.
