Title: Alan Sugar Post by: Dazzza on Monday, January 12, 2009, 12:56:55 Anyone catch the old Alan Sugar documentary on last night?
Basically followed him around and documented the rise and fall of Amstrad with a little snippet on Spurs. The Spurs section was quite interesting to hear as he was obviously very bitter about those 10 years and believed he was well and truly shafted by the media from the moment he sacked El Tel who he claimed drank with every back page journo in his club. He mentioned that he got that frustrated that he broke down in court when fighting a libel case before he eventually threw in the towel. Left me feeling a tad grubby about football and if anything more appreciative of the lower leagues. i've got.I looked back at the Spurs chapters and Venables always thought that Sugar got involved with Spurs because of the impending Sky deal.Remember that Sugar is personal friends with Murdoch and the then head of Sky Sam Chisholm.Amstrad were manufacturing the Sky dishes and putting out 70,000 of them per month. When Sugar bought Spurs there was a sense of relief from many quarters, because they were in deep financial trouble, hence the Gazza sale to Lazio. Also,by buying them he saved them from being bought by the bouncing Czech, a certain Mr Robert Maxwell.
