Title: Jody Craddock and Kevin Kyle
Post by: Samdy Gray on Friday, January 9, 2009, 08:21:33
Quote
DANNY Wilson is lining up Jody Craddock and Kevin Kyle for County Ground loan spells, while top scorer Simon Cox has dismissed rumours linking him with a transfer window exit from Swindon.

Town’s manager was locked in talks yesterday afternoon with chairman Andrew Fitton about transfer targets and budgets.

And the Swindon Advertiser understands the boss has identified Craddock, a defender, and Scotland international frontman Kyle as the men to help lift the team away from the League One relegation zone.

The pair could arrive in Wiltshire in the next few days, and could make their debuts against Stockport on Tuesday night if tomorrow’s clash with the Hatters is postponed, as expected.

Wilson has made no secret of his desire to strengthen his new side with some experienced players, and Craddock and Kyle fit the bill at both ends of the pitch.

Big target man Kyle, who is under contract at Coventry, had a successful loan spell under Wilson at Hartlepool earlier this season and has made eight Scotland appearance.

Wilson has always been a big fan of the 6ft 3ins striker, who scored five goals in 15 games at Victoria Park, and believes he would serve as the perfect foil to Cox.

Wolves centre-back Craddock started the season as captain at Molineux, but suffered a broken metatarsal early in the season and has failed to regain his place as Mick McCarthy’s side top the Championship.

The 33-year-old has played just two league games so far this campaign, but would provide some much-needed experience and leadership to Town’s leaky back line.

Meanwhile, in a massive boost to everyone at the County Ground, 16-goal hit man Cox has committed himself to the club - insisting he will still be a Town player when the transfer window closes at the start of February.

National reports yesterday linked the former Reading player with a possible switch to Premier League sides Bolton, West Ham and Fulham, but the striker insists he’s going nowhere.

“I’m not leaving at the moment - I can’t state that enough,” claimed Cox.

“I don’t think anyone’s come in with any bids and I’m happy here. If there is any truth in it then I don’t know anything about it.

“I’m waiting for the window to close and we’ll see where I am at the end of it, but I would expect to still be here.”

Craddock sounds like a bit of good business, possibly combined with lucky timing as he's not really the sort of player you'd expect to be available on loan mid season.  Kyle, I know he has his knockers, will be in to provide the foil to Cox as an alternative to the recently hot and cold Paynter.  All in all, they look like they should add something to the squad, which is good.  Would like someone in the centre of midfield if we can manage it.

Quietly impressed by Wilson so far.  Then again, I always called for Malpas to have more time, even at the very end!

Kevin Kyle eh?  Tbf to the bloke he'd probably do a good job for us at this level, but as I said last week I'm still gutted he managed to get a Scotland cap out there when there are better players than him out that that haven't, I mean I played 3 seasons in Bromham's Reserves and I never got the call up under Berti.

(expects that's because you're english comeback).

Craddock's getting on a bit but he should still have the fitness to do very well for us, always thought he was a good player at the Mackems but haven't seen much of him at Wolves.  I'll speak to my Wolves supporting mate at work to see what he thinks of him.

I would say because you're English but that doesn't seem to stop you getting in the Scottish national team: McEveley, Commons, Parkin et al.

Cheers for the summary on Kyle, Craddock does get me a bit excited I must say. He is the kind of player we need, Someone to lead and sort out the defence. Wonder if any chance on getting him permanently? Craddock could effectively play the Ady Williams role in L2 here so...

Craddock should do a job if he's match fit. I've seen Kyle play several times for several clubs over the years and he's never impressed me (including throwing the funniest hissy fit after being taken off for Coventry). However, it's signings and they have experience.

Its all very well discussing the plus and minus but i think its great we have a manager who can set up deals like this......Poor old MM would be scraping non league....

Anyway.....proof of the pudding is in the eating!

Like others Craddock seems exactly the type we need. would be an ideal signing as long as he's fit enough.

As for Kyle, it makes sense in some ways, even if I dont think he particually good.

Just spoke to my Wolves mate, he thinks as we would really, Craddock would do a good job for us, not so impressed with Kyle, but then again who is.

Still think both players would be good acquisitions for us, in our current state, although this says more about us than them!

"In 2006 Kyle received the dubious nickname of "Scaldin' Balls" from the Daily Mirror, a parody of David Beckham's "golden balls" nickname, after Kyle missed one of Sunderland's matches after scalding his testicles with boiling water whilst feeding his young son.[8]"

Shit nickname, superb random injury

Bit dangerous feeding the kid with boiling water I feel.
Does that count as child abuse?

All good stuff.

Kyle is well on the way to becoming the white Trevor Benjamin with the amount of clubs he’s been tooting about on loan.  An extra stalk I suppose that gives Cocks and Balls a foil or the option to stick two big lumps up front.

Craddock is superb although it all depends on fitness and how rusty he is.  But he’ll come good eventually with games and with any luck it’ll be a three month effort.

Craddock would be a great signing. I don't remember even seeing Kyle play but given that Paynter has been struggling to find form recently he could be a good signing - as rubbish as Scotland might be you still have to be vaguely decent to get in the team. Unless your name is Chris Iwelumo.

There was definately a link and King wanted him on loan for a season or a decent term from his mate Fucking Monkey Head up in Sunderland but I thought he bombed it out as he had broke into the first team.

I've always thought Craddock was a bit shite but then that was top flight lark so perhaps he could do a job. Didn't he score an own-goal hat trick once or something like that?

The 2 Sunderland fans I know both hated him, and didn't Sunderland fob him off to Shef Utd once they went up anyway?

Title: Re: Jody Craddock and Kevin Kyle

Craddock spent a few months on loan at Sheff Utd during Sunderland's first season in the Premiership, then moved to Wolves in 2003 when they got promoted. According to Wikipedia.

Major John "Johnnie" Whitby Cradock, (17 May 1904 Lambeth, London, England[1] - 30 January 1987 Basingstoke, Hampshire, England [2]) was a cook, writer and broadcaster and the fourth husband of television cook and writer Fanny Cradock.

He attended Harrow School and served in the British Army, reaching the rank of Major in the Royal Artillery.

He is best remembered as being the long-suffering stooge for his wife in their popular United Kingdom cooking programmes which were shown from the 1950s to the 1970s. Wearing a traditional blazer and sporting a monocle above his trademark handlebar moustache, he would remain around the back of Fanny's studio sets awaiting her imperious commands which, when they came, often resulted his being berated for being too slow.

With his wife, he wrote a number of cook books (see below), which were popular reading at the time. Johnnie and Fanny also wrote the "Bon Viveur" restaurant column for the Daily Telegraph newspaper from 1950–1955. This was one of Britain's first restaurant columns and led to their first television series in 1955.

At first they presented the BBC's "Kitchen Magic", but were soon poached by ITV's first cooking programme, which they presented as "Fanny & Johnnie".

At that time Johnnie and Fanny were not married. Fanny adopted his name for their writing and television work and they eventually married in 1977

Sadly true, his baby suffered cot death. I remember a TV football commentator talking about it in, what I thought at the time, too much detail. Just say a family bereavement and move on.

Kingy was interested in getting Kyle here, but the player at the station who had to do an abrupt
turnaround was Thomas Butler. He's the Irish winger who's now with Swansea.Craddock would
do a very good job for us i'm sure.We need an experienced leader at the back.

Craddock has a fairly good pedigree..Kyle does not...but I wont judge a player before I have seen him play in the Town shirt.

Kyle may well hit some form for us and really hit it off playing alongside Cox, who knows.....dont write him off before hes even kicked a ball.
