David May is one of the only footballers who has a league runners up medal, in 2 consecutive seasons, for two different clubs. If that makes sense.

Another decent piece of trivia is that his mate Henning Berg, is one of the only footballers, who has a league winners medal, in 2 consecutive seasons, for two different clubs.

I predict that European teams will buy more from England than they usually do, and English teams will buy fewer from Europe than they usually do. Because... a £10m player would have cost €14m 6 months ago, but now that works out at about €11m. And vice versa.

Lucky we got Yinka Casal when we did otherwise he'd have cost a lot of money.

a few years ago dos santos was tipped to be a world class player, i dont think bacralona would have got rid of him if they still through that, and especialy at such a low price, i guess he's stopped progressing and was not going to get any better, i dont understand why spurs wanna get rid of him as i think that would be his level. he is still a very good player but not world class player

Its only 2nd January. Remember DW still needs to see his players before he decides who isn't good enough. This is a tad tricky bearing in mind he can only see them in training.

you would think that DW would look at all the squad in training before making decisions yet his first training session 9 players trained seperate from the rest of the squad, Dave Byrnes input no doubt

I've been hearing these rumours about dissent among the squad, with our decline being laid firmly at Byrne's door...looks like a campaign to get him out.

Title: Re: Transfer window open
Post by: JPC82 on Friday, January 2, 2009, 16:36:46
Who were the so called nine that trained on their own then?

its not relevant who they are, the point was that when a new manager comes in there is fresh optamism and players are all up for the challenge of proving their worth to the manager, yet when these 9 train alone, the current players dont need to raise their game cos its clear they are going to be playing whilst the other 9 are all pissed off knowing they arnt going to play anytime soon

Title: Re: Transfer window open

That seems odd when you need 11 outfield player's plus sub's for the next game, surely they need to train as a team not just nine player's.

I cant believe this is something a manager of wilson's calibre would do, especially with the position we are in.

Nah..what he is saying is that Wilson doesn't have a clue.

VD can provide stats to back it up....100% losing record...no activity in the transfer market...no sackings of back room staff and no match on Saturday...it's a compelling argument.

When Redknapp took over at Spurs,he inherited a similar situation due to Ramos sidelining up to 6 players.
They didn't even have squad numbers and trained on their own.The first thing Harry did was to bring them
in from the cold, train with the squad and include them in all club activities. It didn't mean for one minute that
Harry was going to play them or that they wouldn't eventually leave, but it fostered a togetherness and improved
team spirit immediately. It's called good man management!

I've seen and spoken with DB on a number of occasions and been left with the feeling that he is
a provocative type of character.Usually,an assistant is the gobetween, between the manager and
the players. He's a type that players relate to and befriends them.John Gorman would be the perfect
example with Glenn.DB seems to get on better with the younger players, who listen and take things
on board, but he doesn't seem to get the same response from the experienced players.

Think alot of that involves players dell.

Manchester United have made a £10m bid for Leeds United's 17-year-old midfielder Fabian Delph.

Delph, who has been a regular in the Leeds team this season, has been attracting attention from a number of Premier League clubs.

Newcastle United wasted no time tabling a bid, but their £1m offer was rejected rather firmly by Leeds chairman Ken Bates, who is determined to keep hold of such a huge prospect. Bates said in November: "Fabian Delph will be moving to the Barclays Premier League - but we hope he'll be moving with us via the Championship."

Arsenal, Portsmouth, Bolton Wanderers and Sunderland have been linked with the England Under-19 star, while while it was reported earlier this week that Fulham had made an official £6m offer for the Bradford-born player.

Yet, United's bid, which is based on performances and appearances would trump the offer made by Fulham.

The Utd deal is worth up to £10m, not £10m up front.  If he makes x appearances, is part of trophy winning squad etc then the fee grows.  In which case it's a decent deal for both clubs.
