Good morning, those still in the awake business.

Is anyone awake or is it just me?

Dreading the football today.

Still dreading it. Not so much in the tradiontional pessimistic way. More in the way that I'm not at work and will be sitting through and following the game online this afternoon.

Not sure I'm going to have that pleasure. The Mrs has kindly invited (my) relatives over for the afternoon.

We'll win. I should be on a minibus full of tefers on the way to this game. Unfortunately I over-indulged yesterday and up-chucked in the small hours of this morning, so decided not to go. I was really looking forward to it, which is bad enough, so I imagine an away win will be the kicker.

I'm just on the Tea and Breakfast at the moment. But am following up on drinking all day Christmas, with drinking all day boxing day.

It will all have to end at some point, but i'm delaying that as long as I'm in the vicinity of some wine.

I was on the whiskey until 4 this morning, I've got to get up at 5 tomorrow - it would probably unwise to continue today.

Watching "Soccer" Saturday and just enjoyed a very well argued tirade by John Salako on the "big 4" getting away with stuff. It was good.

Although Hartlepool not once said Wilson was sacked!!

Someone texted in saying he was the cheapest option and he had failed at Hartlepool.

Fitton paused for a second, considered swearing and told him he didn't know what he was talking about and considering Hartlepool's budget/crowds he'd done well.

Danny Wilson is the cheap option as we don't have to pay compensation, that's pretty much it.

People can be utter morons - but we expected this to be the case regardless of who took over.

1554: That is the most remarkable thing I have ever seen during the interval at a football match. Phil Brown led his Hull players to their away support and after applauding the fans, he sits the players down on the ground and gives them an almighty rollocking. After five minutes, he tells them to go back to the dressing-room. They look utterly humbled. They should be. They were absolutely shocking in that 45 minutes.

Bloody hell, that's at half time. They're 4-0 down but blimey O'Reilly.

Possibly, although Byrne has made some brave changes so should get some credit for this result. Although I do think the new manager appointment has helped.

always subs in the second half...

30 seconds for each sub, plus the winning team will waste time more.

I found this comment from a loyal Orient fan on 606 ... (Orient who the fuck are they?) ...

The game has ended less than 25 mins ago..Im fuming.
We are total s**t....we lose two successive home games to those world powers Chelteham and Swindon..its a bloody disgrace.

We are certainties for the drop come May.

Hearn MUST go

Ling MUST go

most of the team MUST go

9 goals at home.......the worst in the league
ive supported this team for 44 yrs, and rarely have i been as despondant as i am right now

Ill come back to this when ive calmed down later, cos at the moment i have never been so angry

We made Swindon who are cr4p.......look like Manchester United today

Then may I be the first to thank them for making us looking good. Christ, we've done exactly the same against several teams this season.

Leyton Orient did their bit to banish Oxford back into Non-League, so they'll always have some gratitude from me... But they are no " world power" either. "A loyal orient fan" isn't having a good time at the moment is he.

Well,Byrne has to take some credit-brave move to pick Sturrock and Kanyuka and both were superb.I have to say that if JPM had put in as much effort as he did today in previous games,he could well be a crowd favourite.Definite penalty turned down, good value for the win despite the obligatory last 5 minute torture.Timlin is a good choice as captain,I think. Our fans were brilliant Brez was at fault for the goal but made some outstanding saves, ought to keep his place. All in all,a grand day out

What a great day. Good to see the feel good factor back at STFC. We set off expecting more of the same but with news of Wilson etc we were soon in the mood. And we couldn't have started better. What a goal from Peacock. Set the tone really.

Should have had a penalty before we did. Think the linesman/ref thought they got it wrong (which they did because Cox was clearly fouled in the box) so just gave a random pen for nothing. It was ace. In it goes and it's 2-0. We made hard work of it and had to hold out but it was what was really needed. Thought JPM was really good today. At times it was almost like we didn't need Macca (yes he was that good on the left) and Kanyuka had a very good game. The players were up for it (clearly ready to impress Wilson) and we deserved the win. Orient were very poor. All in all what a difference 6 days makes! Top stuff. Roll on 2009.

From the point of view of those who didnt go the radio commentary wasnt very descriptive.

Fitton was co-commentating so Ed was mainly asking him questions.

The commentary kind of went along the likes of

Peacock scores
half time
penalty, no its been given outside the box?!
penalty, for nothing
Smith scores
They score
We sound nervy
Full time

Its was bloody good to have Mr. Fitton on there and to hear what he had to say about things, the ground, the training pitch & Danny Wilson but they really didnt commentate much on the match.

I pretty much agree with all of that!

A good day out, but bloody cold!  LO's ground is weird, and very cold.  The food was rank, and they use a block of flats as their corner flags, very novel I thought.  One of the flats even has Grant Mitchell living in them!

Post by: DV on Friday, December 26, 2008, 22:46:19
On the flip side to that DV i obviously missed Fitton's "commentary" what were the main highlights?

There are speaking to the council about a training ground but didnt mention anything about the actual ground.

He addressed the 'so and so will have to work with Byrne and Williams' issue. Its never been stated that the new manager would HAVE to work with those 2. Fittion said Wilson wont be bringing anyone with him yet. He will assess the coaches like the players over the first month and then decided on what changes he wants to make.

When asked about money for players in January, Fitton just said that he personally thinks the squad is good enough and under achieving so doesnt need any additions, again though Wilson will come in and make those judgements.

Some moron text in saying Wilson was the cheap option etc etc Fitton said he didnt know what he was talking about. Said Wilson ticked all the boxes but obviously only came into their mind frame and short list the other week when he left Hartlepool.

Fitton mentioned 40% as in, in his opinion for a manager to have been successful as a club he generally needs to have won 40% of his games. Wilsons over all career record is 39.94%

Fitton has no interest in horses but memebers of the board do.

He asked about quid for a kid and the lack of atmosphere. He said they had already tried some family promotions and he felt the best atmosphere of the season was against Portsmouth and said their fans were good because they had a drum and the guy with the chimes. He said to improve the Town End he'd buy a drum!

He used to watch Newcastle as a youngster but wasnt really he fans, he was the only person in St. James Park that didnt care if their team won or lost!

He interviewed Wilson on tuesday and they agreed terms late afternoon Christmas Eve. Wilson has till the end of this season then another 2 seasons on his contract, although by all accounts Fitton seemed to imply without directly saying that it hadnt been signed as of yet.

When talking about our players, he mentioned that JPM was a good player when he was rattled and he hopes the new manager will rattle him every week, or something like that. I cant remember what word Fitton used but he was basically saying JPM is a good player when he can be arsed.

He also said he liked Blair Sturrock as a footballer because he was intelligent, had good movement and worked the channels well.

Thats it off the top of my head.

Well JPM looked at last as if he could be arsed and played bloody well-if only he'd put in that amount of effort all season he might be a bit more popular.Sturrock -what can I say?Never really rated him but today he weren't far off being MOM-just behind Kanyuka for me.Timlin is a far better option as captain in my book.Peacock and Nalis did well but faded in the last 15.I think they all deserved to keep their place for Brighton

Sounds like players want new contracts and are out to impress.

Lets hope Wilson watches a few videos first.

I think JPM has probably been one of our better players since Malpas left. Certainly been much better than he was when Malpas was here.

A player who didnt want to play for the manager, imo.

Top fucking day!

Support was fantastic, didn't hear any negative, miserable bollocks at all (A goal after 43 seconds and the appointment of a manager probably helped)

We need to push on from this, starting against Brighton on Sunday.

Oooh Danny Wilson, used to manage shitty but he's alright now! (First sung in The Coach & Horses, Leytonstone. By me)

Great day out.........except for the posts put on here advising of 'match day parking' ..........it doesnt fucking exist!!!   I was driving around the ground like whacky races!!!

Mitchell on the BBQ was a quality moment that we all remember for many a year!!

Town showed some passion for once......players fighting for places.

All played well except for maybe Nalis (where was he??).

Very happy xmas so far and actually looking forward to Brighton on Sunday.

Fucking great day out. Thanks to Luci for Arranging and Steve ofcourse for driving. Our fans were in fine voice today and no doubt the appointment of a manager as well as the early goal helped. We looked very good at times. Cox seems to be lacking in confidence. A goal Sunday will fix that. Went through a similar spell last season if I remember correctly. Brez looked good and went back to basic goalkeeping, "catching the ball" JP McGovern looked fantatsic and clearly the bollocking from Byrne and the appointment of a new manager had the players fired up. Great to see Budgie get a standing ovation at the end and the chants of "THERES ONLY ONE DAVID BYRNE" at the end, he has put up with a lot of shit but stuck with it. What a great send off for him as caretaker.

Got to agree about JPM. Absolutely fantastic yesterday, and showed he is fit enough to run around all game and play good balls, just that most games he doesnt want to/cant be arsed. If hes not in the mood then Wilson should be substituting him after 20 minutes, he'll soon get the message.

Real spirit in both the team and the fans yesterday and I think this is the minimum you need to get any enjoyment out of watching lower league football. Just felt like Swindon again. Lots of chanting and fans excited about their football.

Have to say that weve had a lack of leadership on the park and off it the last year and its been a bit painful to be honest. Its hurt our support and its lead to a lot of players being hald arsed and lacking the desire. But now we have a real Leader again I expect that to all change. Just got to persuade some of those who have started to flake away over the past year that things are on the up again.

And if that Orient fan couldnt see that Sam Parkin was Orients best player by a mile then they dont deserve him. Hes not quite as fast as he was, but hes got really quick feet, great in the air, good first touch and unselfish.

We've won our last 4 Boxing Days fixtures....5 in a row it is then *cough*

Shame we can't play as well on a normal Saturday....congrats to Jerel Ifil, who played in each of those wins, three of which were away....and to Michael Pook who sat on the bench for 4 of them.

I guess that DW must have had some sort of doings with JPM with at MKD...DV know owt about it? LeeP obviously worked with him at the Shitheads.

Yes Adje, Timlin has been good for a while. Hes really impressed with his attitude at left back. Really got stuck in and got on with the job in the position we most needed him.

Well done Timmeh! Definately one for Wilson to keep.

Danny Wilson got sacked from Franchise on the 10th of May 2006.

JPM signed for Franchise on the 4th of July 2006.

Amankwaah turned pro under Danny Wilson in 2000 but had the car crash in 2002. Wilson gave him a new 2 year contract whilst out injured then sent him out on loan. He left Ashton Gate in feb 2005 to Yeovil initial on loan think Gary Johnson was in by then. Sounds like Wilson rated him.

Peacock was of course signed by Wilson and pretty much left the same time at the end of the 2004 season.

I knew you'd be the man DV....if pushed I'd have said JPM would have played under DW, so he's got it all to prove...good.

Amankwaah does seem to have gone backwards...itv would be a bonus if DW can get him back resembling a footballer.

Just to add a touch of realism for the likes of Dave...we wont be signing anyone from HPool.  Think back to the summer when the ManUre lad Jones preferred them  over us as they pay more. As far as we know that policy hasn't changed, maybe someone on loan.

Nothing to do with the fact Hartlepool is alot closer to Manchester, where he lived...

Perhaps his agent made him go there so he (the agent) could get more money

Maybe Wilson sold the club better than Malpas did.
